Magnus - gone, but never forgotten

6 posts in this topic

You know who doesn't get enough respect???

Magnus Robot Fighter, that's who.

No, not that nancy-boy Valiant imposter, I mean MAGNUS Robot Fighter ... from 1963. While Peter Parker was still failing his high school geography tests, Magnus was busy saving all of North America, I repeat ... ALL of North America, from a never-ending succession of angry robots, psychotic robots, killer robots, robots programmed by evil scientists, robots with a grudge, misunderstood robots, robots taken over by aliens, and poor lonely (but deadly) robots who only wanted to feel love.

And did Magnus have a fancy power suit? Or a magic hammer? Or a tingly spider sense???? Noooooo. All he had was his killer steel-smashing karate chop! And that was just the way we liked it!

Some of the great things about Magnus Robot Fighter comics:

- Evil wacky robots

- Wacky evil robots

- Big giant evil wacky robots

- Big giant evil levitating robots that could shoot flames from their eyes

- Russ Manning art

- Unusual (for the time) painted covers

- Leeja ... what a babe!

- Cool flying cars

- Did I mention robots?

Behold, the wonder of Magnus ...

I love the painted covers! cloud9.gif

Unfortunatly by the time I was buying off the stands they were the 15 cent reprints.

It wasn't until years I discovered the originals had the great covers.

BTW, kudos to forum member tth2 -- he's the source of several of my nicer Magnus copies. A good guy to do business with (even if he does live in one of them there foreign countries).

Haven't you seen "Home Alone?" If some burglars come, it'll

be a very humorous and entertaining situation.

What great memories! I loved this issue to death when I was a kid.

"Alone against Talpa". Underground robots with super strong metal vs. Magnus, brainwashed children, and Troglodytes. This issue had it all! cloud9.gif
