Here's another couple of CGC 7.5's for decent prices, IMO.

SSWS #10 $131

SSWS #21 $77

I would've snagged every one of these if I had had the foresight to place bids ahead of time. I'm always concerned about shill bidding, that I usually don't do that though.

Those are some EXCELLENT prices on early SSWS in high grade. It seems this title gets pretty much ignored.

The best deals for sure were on the OFFs, SSWSs and AAWOWs in 7.5 and under. In retrospect, I wish had jumped into hock and bid on a bunch of those.

Andy G, you got some beautiful deals.

As for the #80, I was looking forever for one to come to market. A friend found a really nice copy and sold me his undercopy. The day it arrived, a VG copy of #80 appeared on ebay with a BIN of $24!!!! I snagged it, flipped it, and paid for my nice one.

Happens to me once every five years!

By the way, I'm loving all the traffic on the silver age war thread!

By the way, do we know who the buyers on the GIC #87, #68, #82, #80 and #91 were? Anyone here on the boards, or other interests?

Shep

Good question, I have a feeling someone here bought some, if not all, of those books. :baiting: (not implying you, Shep)

Oooh, I really wanted that GIC #80, and didn't think my $250 would hold up very long. lol I was going to up my bid to try to win it, but I pretty much put a bid in on every one of those comics, so I was scared that I'd win too much. $700 is pricey, but that book is damned scarce, and yes, the guide is too low. MUCH TOO LOW on the high grade, and maybe a little high on the low grade books. I came out of last night's auction with quite a few books and a good deal of perfectly fine mid grade to high grade books, and at fairly reasonable prices. That's where the value is for me. I had every single one of those books, but nearly every one was an upgrade. Also, if you follow these books, as I know you all do, the high grade books rarely appear for sale, so it's not too much of a surprise to see these realised prices.

I got this one for much less than I thought I'd have to pay: OAAW #43 CGC 8.0 $107

http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17397

Here's an example of a good deal: OFF #10 CGC 4.0 $37.00 (it'd cost me $30 to CGC it!)

http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17423

A nice high grade book at a good price: OFF #18 CGC 7.5 $95

http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17425

Highest graded: OFF #75 CGC 9.2 $131

http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17441

Granted, there are 3 of these in 9.4, but I'm happy to be the owner of one of them: OFF #123 First Losers CGC 9.4 $155

http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17447

That was a fun auction. I would've loved any of those high grade GIC's, but as Quality Comix was saying, the big 2 are selling for many multiples, and that's just a little out of my league. Geez, I spent enough, but I'll sure be happy for a long, long time. (thumbs u

I think you did extremely well with your purchases. None of those are easy books in those grades and you were basically paying around guide + shipping.

Thanks a lot, I'm very happy with them. I'll post some books tonight from my first Heritage auction win in July.

I am glad to see that the recent auctions of DC war books have created this much excitement. I never expected the GIC to do this well, but of course I am happy about it. The OAAW books will always do well. The SSWS do not seem to get the respect it deserves.

The good news is that between now and the end of the year there will still be at least another 300 DC War to be auctioned. I think there is an OAAW #96 CGC 7.5 next week and more GIC to follow. There will not be much DC war until late August early September. The books will be listed when they return from CGC.

Good luck.

That's quite a set of books, Keith. Pardon me if this has been asked before but how many in total did you have?

Just picked up a copy of this book at a small local show.

Is that guy drinking coffee with a dead guy in the snow nearby?

War is grim, boy!

Atlas comics were edited with a much lighter hand than DC books resulting in covers that ranged from the obviously humorous to ones that were in deadly earnest. Here's a couple more by two other outstanding Atlas artists, Severin and Maneely.

Thanks again, Keith. I'm looking forward to what's coming up.

Here's a lot of 7 OAAW's uncertified that I picked up, from the first offering of Keith's books, for $155. Before I received these I wasn't sure why I bid, now that I see them, I am as pleased as punch! :cloud9:

First up, #138 (1st Sparrow)

OAAW138.jpg

#201 Northland Collection (Great cover!)

OAAW201Northland.jpg

Northland certificate for that #201 (not really sure it's a 9.2, but it's certainly nice)

OAAW201NorthlandCert.jpg

#188 (Decent shape/cool cover)

OAAW188.jpg

#178 (I think that nearly every Joe Kubert cover is a masterpiece!!!)

OAAW178.jpg

#144 (Nice high grade gem)

OAAW144.jpg

#129 Probably the lowest grade in the bunch (and it's not bad at all), and what a wonderful cover!)

OAAW129.jpg

#33 (A lower grade, but it's by far my most treasured one here; early and Fine or better, can't beat that combination!)

OAAW33.jpg

Thanks for looking guys and gals, I hope you liked them as much as I do. (thumbs u

I had nearly all of the Big Five. It took me ten years to collect them. Good luck on future auctons. Keith Marlow.

Most impressive! BTW, I was the guy whose shirt you grabbed at the San Diego Con.
