Nice books Shep. I especially like the 85.

Who snagged that big, expensive lot of GICs awhile back? I remember it has quite a few HG issues in the 100 range, including a smoking copy of 104.

I did. The only good thing I've done in my life.

What were the grades and what did you pay? Just curious (and jealous).

I found that I did very well in that auction for some books that flew under the radar.

Here's one that cost me $107.55

And this one cost me $42.00

I've thought about it, but that's just more money that doesn't go towards the accumulation of more books. Can anyone present a case for having a registry set?

I think the pile of books (15) cost about $325. I also believe the 104 might get a 9.2-9.4 and the 99 and 100 are each at least 9.0's. The rest are between 6.0 and 7.5 really. I also bought a pile of OFF isues off the same guy for $120.

Nice pickup. The 104 alone is probably worth more than the price you paid for the entire lot.

After getting that collection, did you find that you now have a couple of nice doubles that will be available? :wishluck:

Some runs I am going after HG only and CGC'ed books are a good (and sometimes only) way to do that. And if I am going after them in CGC slabs, why not just take the time to set up a set? Sure it is gimmicky, but for me it's just another outlet for the OCD/anal retentive aspect of being a comic collector.

Also, I travel a lot for work and am often away from my comics and comic files. If I see something on ebay or CLINK I can always go to my Collector's Society account and take a look at a nicely organized snapshot of books I collect with front and back scans, their centering, page quality, etc., and see if I can upgrade or if am missing an issue.

I wouldn't tell anyone to collect only CGC books, but the Registry is just another way to share yours if you do have a couple (or more).

Nice book!!

That is one of my favorite non-greytone early GIC covers... be happy that you found a solid copy, because it is one of the tougher ones to find.

Shep

Thanks Shep, I'm very happy with it. The auction closed at $10.80 so I was even happier!

The cover really caught my attention and I was surprised that there weren't more bids
