Early Reviews of Superman Returns

7 posts in this topic

It is getting glowing reviews. Of course some are from Superman websites, but they can be more critical. My predictions about box office champ has gone to Cars or Superman with Pirates being #3.

Thank god. Whether you're a Marvel or DC fan, I think you have to conclude that it's good for comic books in general if the Superman movie is tremendous. Between Batman Begins, X3, and now Superman, comic books are generating a higher hit rate of successes than anything this side of Pixar.

Cars got some pretty iffy reviews today. The worst just stated that it was a bland Pixar effort, which was a surprise, but that it was no better that the recent Disney product that was so tepid it oled Disney to pony up billions to BUY Pixar.

My suspicion all along has been that CARS might be lackluster because it was germinated in that period when Pixar was feuding with Disney over money. Pixar owed Disney one more film. CARS was it. And my suspicion was that (based on the awful, thin, lousy trailer that showed with the Incredibles, that Pixar was an 'upyours' to Disney. Menaing that Disney would own it (just as they own Toy Story etc rights) and Pixar was thinking 'screwem' make it worthless to them.

But, Its still hard for me to think thats Lasseter would work for 4 years on a project and make it lousy out of spite. But, maybe since it was conceived at that time, it was unsalvageable in concept...???

I saw cars last night with my Fiancé and her son and would give it a 4 out of 10. Definitely the worst Pixar film by far. If anyone wants to take their kids to a movie I would give Over the Hedge a 10 out of 10.

Ditto ... my son couldn't remember much about it and I thought it was mediocre at best. It still amazes me, though, about how good Pixar is at what they do. Some of the trees looked so real I was shaking my head in desbelief.

Really? I was disappointed with Batman Begins; so I'm a little skeptical about Superman Returns.
