Wizard World offering Signature Series Vouchers now

15 posts in this topic

Well, I can only elaborate on what I know.

As sponsors of the event, Wizard has decided to be pro-active in providing services to their attendees by providing Signature Series Witnesses - you'll note that if you did not already know this - Wizard is a CGC Signature Series Member Dealer.

At their information booth you can buy vouchers that will enable you to arrange for a Wizard Signature Series witness to take you over to the guest, get your book signed and then they will bring you back to me at the CGC booth to complete your paperwork. It's almost like front of the line access, at least I think that's what it is.

Essentially Wizard is providing attendees with rental witnesses. Costs are on the Wizard website and don't include the grading costs ($27 for take home SS, $34 for on-site SS).

I will still be accepting requests on behalf of CGC at the booth for no additional charges beyond the basic SS fees, and our Signature Series member dealers will still be walking around the floor getting books signed for their account and/or for customers. If you drop off a book with CGC we will still get your book done for no additional fees, we just have less of a guarantee of success than Wizard does - because, well, it's THEIR convention and these are their guests.

For example, with someone like Michael Turner, we have to line up or make a deal with Turner to sign a batch of books that have been submitted at the booth. With Turner's recent recurrence and surgery there's a good possibility that he will refuse to sign a large batch (as he did in San Diego). Wizard, in theory, can take you right up to the front of the line, for a fee, and you can get your books signed.

Not sure how many books you can get signed per voucher.

Not sure if this is a great thing or not?

Thoughts?

Maybe Kev can elaborate on this?

No good can come of this.

I like the idea of a VIP service, but I can't imagine those waiting in line are going to respond well to someone jumping in front of them because they paid a fee.

All I can say is that one never knows until one tries. Consider this a dry run.

Not sure how this works for pre-approved witnesses. I'm sure they can purchase vouchers, but I'm prettty sure they will need the Wizard escort to jump the line. Maybe this is something dealers can purchase for their customers to guarantee books are signed by tough to get to guests.

I'm also not sure how this works for guests signing at company booths. Say, Geoff Johns at the DC booth.

Give him a day or two. Maybe he'll get it. tonofbricks.gif

I know it was a Joke. Duh. However, it didn't mean I had to treat it like one. poke2.gif
