X-Men Collecting Thread!

Hi Everyone! :hi:

I haven't really been active in collecting (mostly busy playing and coaching tennis these days), but I did place bids in Scott Ireland's Comiclink auction. There were too many good books to ignore. However, I was shocked! I bid on 5 books, the #8, 9, 30, 60, and 66 and I didn't win ANY! My bids were not that low either.

Two questions for all of you....

What did you guys win?

Did anyone happen to note if the sale prices were particularly high? They seemed fairly good on most of the books that I bid on. That is, generally at GPA or higher.

Hi Rhonda!!, Glad to see you back. The only book I won was the #39 though I did bid on the 41 and 44. I think Scott did pretty well. Some of those prices were amazing. I know i didn't do half as well when I sold some of my undercopies (same grade or higher) of the same issues. :o

i got crushed on the x-men #79 9.2...went for $600 :(

:o Sorry that you didn't win the book that you wanted, beancurd.

I'm really shocked!

I mean, when I saw that Scottie was selling off everything all in one day, I was thinking that he would saturate the market. I estimate that the #2 through #66 total sale was $35k to $40k total. (very rough, assumes an average of about $600 each)

I thought that the relatively few collectors that could afford books of those grades would not be able or willing to bid on more than a few and that this would limit bidding on some books. I was wrong!

In a way, I'm happy that there is so much demand and available cash for high-grade X-Men books. Perhaps the X-Men title is doing better than I realized. I need to get working on that price index study. It's so overdue.

From the ones I was bidding on, it looks like the silver and bronze age ones went for pretty good prices, while the copper were average or below average except the keys and rare ones.

Not a bad guess there. I had to know for myself. So here are the top books listed out by result. Slice of 10% for Clink's share, or is it more now? Either way, some solid results there!

Tell me about it. meh
Who won it?

Don't know, but I wasn't anywhere near that price. The other two went for more than I was willing to pay as well.

How much did the 296 go for?

I had no clue the 294 would go even close to that mark. I predicted 200-250 and 150-175 for the 296.
