LDarkseid
well i think there are a lot of copies coming out now and Rob and I had both been kind of circling that book for almost a year now I think. I find it kind of funny that we both purchased one the same week and would be curious to compare notes on how much money we made people at auction bidding on DD1s this year I think the 9.4 at Comic Connect is one of, if not the best copy I have seen from a production view point this year [i can say that I never had any intention of going into 5 figures for a DD 1, as of the three Marvel Keys I still need (ASM1 JIM 83) it is my least favorite] but the cut of that copy had me bidding in 5 figures. Whoever bought the Comiclink 8.5 got a nice deal. I was bidding a bit, but had 9.0 or better on my mind and didn't want to go through a .5 upgrade scenario. Well congrats Rob, nice to stop butting heads with you at auction as I think we are in the same boat, meaning only DDs I would consider now are maybe upgrades to some raw books of not as much significance where I could sell the under copy easily. Here's my copy. Edited September 9, 2016 by LDarkseid

jbud73
Well Rob, I pushed you a bit into the teens at comic connect but for the last 4K it was someone else. It looks like I am done as well, as after the shock wore off on the 9.4 it made it easy to talk to the owner of this one owner book and pull the trigger. And though I know its not Silver, this book is harder that a DD1 in terms of frequency I can assure you so it looks like my run is seriously complete. Killer pair! Sweet looking #1. And I can verify the difficulty of the 35 cent variants. I looked at every copy of all three books on eBay for years and never spotted one. Those are incredibly tough. There are more copies of DD 1 in High Grade for sale this month than there will be of 148 (35 cent) in any grade over the next 5 years.

jbud73
Oh and Barton on your previous posting, I had a really hard time with the 39 and getting a copy with a nice color strike. This will be evident when I release my under copies - and sometimes over copies if Im keeping the Ped. in a FS thread soon. If you ever have a second and wouldn't mind posting a close up of the top left corner (notorious for defects) I'd appreciate it as that book may have the best 'Avatar' region I've seen in a while. No problem ! There's definitely a small amount of color break on the top left edge, and a few extremely small color breaking stress marks on the spine where the avatar is, but it's pretty clean. LDarkseid
My favorite part about my copy is at the bottom right side of the front cover. Most copies have that little color breaking tick on the bottom of the cover right in the middle of Karen and Foggy, but mine is almost perfectly clean there. There's some minor newton rings as you can see though, but whatever haha. Edited September 11, 2016 by LDarkseid

Thanks for doing that, that is a very nice top left corner, I'd assume that the faint stress there is what kept it out of 9.6 because I can see little else that is not perfect on this book. Its like someone whacked all the DD 1s on the top left, in the Green area with a sand paper wrapped ruler. The 9.0 I bought has abrasion there, which is undoubted what kept it out of higher grades. rob_react
The only book I need is 86 and I'm already prepared to pay loony money for one if it comes up for sale. It's pretty amazing how tough it is to find #86 in 9.4 or better. There are just 12 copies - 1 9.8, 4 9.6s, and 7 9.4s. For comparison purposes, DD #85 and 87 both have more than 60 copies in the census in 9.4 or better. There are constantly copies of 85 and 87 for sale. All the time. 86? It's been more than three years I just looked and 86 is only slightly easier than #7 (1 more copy in 9.4+), which I've already resigned myself to never being to upgrade. Yeah to get a 9.6 you pretty much have to have perfect edges. I can only imagine what the two or three 9.8 copies look like.

For the 7? I have a 9.2. Ya, might be a bit of a wait on a 9.4 man, I'm happy with a 9.0. Best of luck hunting, that book is really tough in HG, understand the 86 has fewer copies, but I would also consider that the 7 is widely understood as a harder key and probably has more attempts so to me that further accentuates its standing as a tough in HG key book. Oh as an aside, if you do nab, one, think i might have a good home for your 9.2 Edited September 12, 2016 by jbud73
rob_react
Actually I was unclear above, #7 has one FEWER copy above 9.4. 3 9.6s and 8 9.4s. I've long known #7 was going to be a beast so I'm cool with my 9.2. If a 9.4 ever comes up for sale and I can grab it I'll definitely be unloading the 9.2. I love that book, just not enough to start hoarding high grade copies
