What's up with this CGC grade? A 'qualified' VG/FN but...

Maybe this has already been beaten to death somewhere on these boards, but if so I'm not aware of it...

Here's a link to a copy of Young Allies #8. It's a great-looking book:

...but it's missing the centerfold. So a comic with four pages missing isn't considered "Poor" by CGC ? Why not just list everything as a qualified "Mint" and be done with it?

"Comic is in Mint 10.0 - *qualified grade* - due to creasing, small tears, some foxing and a popped upper staple."

Why are some 'defects' or 'blemishes' considered fodder for a qualified grade and not others? Why is a comic with a large chunk out of the cover simply a low-grade book, but a comic with 4 pages missing is mid-grade *qualified* ? Does CGC look into a crystal ball and determine how the damage occured? Can they somehow tell that 4 pages missing from the center of a book were removed purposely, while a big piece torn from a cover happened inadvertantly?

It's been beaten to death, as long as they have a qualifed label.. there's going to be stuff that goes under that label that people don't like. Not a whole lot ppl can do about it.

A Qualified grade is like saying the Apparent grade. The comic looks vg/fn from the outside unless u open it up to see the missing centerspread or Marvel Value Stamp cut out of it. Yikes. Cgc would do a "disservice" to the hobby by slabbing the book fair? 893frustrated.gif
