EBay is a Drag

Funny...but in this case, the chicken (using the icon on ebay) came before the egg (using the icon here). The reason I started doing is that I embed my scans in the description field (via html), and since the pic flag does not show up on the listings unless you actually have a picture in the "official" ebay image field, I started using it for all my auctions...good luck!

"In the meantime, I think the current market environment may persist

for some time." ......whats your prediction on a time frame?

Oftentimes timing is harder to predict than direction or magnitude...like CI,

I have been surprised that we have arrived in the current environment so

quickly. I was not ruling out the possibility of a decent autumn rebound

(remember in August all the predictions for buyers and sellers to come out

of the woodwork again in September? Happened only for an extremely

narrow group of books).

I am in the investment banking business, which has continued to get

pummeled since the latter part of 2000. Everyone bemoaned the lack

of deals & IPOs (re: lack of high grade CGC listings and comic

buyers) but predicted a turnaround 3 or 6 months later. Instead,

we have gotten a steady deterioration month after month (sound

familiar?) and people are finally realizing that the current depressed

environment may pass for normal (or may continue to deteriorate) for

many more quarters, if not years (once again showing both what a

market looks like after a bubble bursts, CGC or otherwise...also the

correlation between the stock market and the CGC market - both are

vulnerable to deteriorating economic conditions, though the CGC market

has lagged the decline in other markets).

If EBay is such a drag to you, the comic market is crashing and you have a tough time finding the Bronze keys that you're looking for, maybe you should quit comic collecting.

You took the words right out of my mouth, and when my brain is telling me to leave, it's usually great advice. grin.gif

Every single time I've ditched comic collecting (due to speculation) I've come back only to find prices depressed beyond belief and the deals just there for the taking. I don't lead a trend to be sure, but I'm usually right there with the exodus of thousands of other fed-up collectors.

I really see no danger in taking a bit of a break, since I have a lot of interests to keep me busy, and I eagerly await the insane bargains that will follow.
