PGM Low grade AF 15 with color touch

25 posts in this topic

Just picked this up in a collection. It's a somewhat low grade AF 15. At some point a previous owner used a dark pen to color in the 12-cent logo and some stress marks along the spine at the staples and the bottom corner/center cover.

I've included an inside cover scan where you can see a bit of the bleed-through from the color touch.

Just wondering what you all would grade this as. Thanks!

Is this a good restoration candidate?

its allready restored

Right. So the point may be, since it is already restored, why not make it better yet?

It may be a decent candidate because it's structurally sound with good paper quality. Except fixing the chipping would be pricey and result in a Moderate designation.

But it would look so beautiful after the moderate restoration!!!

I got nothing against restoration as long as it is disclosed.

I had a very similar situation with my FF 1. It had a few marker bleeds. Since it was "restored" already, I sent it Matt Nelson for a little buff and polish. Went from a 4.0 to 6.0 with less than $200 of slight resto. cloud9.gif

The Marvel chipping is a bit distracting, but besides that it's a nice LG copy. I'll guess 2.5 A.

Ditto. I can't see anything on the book that isn't allowed in G+ 2.5, and the color touch doesn't appear to affect the grade any.

Yeah, it's pretty benign from a standpoint of its appearance. Just unfortunate that somebody tried to gussy it up a bit.... foreheadslap.gif

Actually, I disagree. I think there is just too much missing along the REFC; that, the inking, and the tears at the staples, I feel, keep it out of a straight 2.0 . . . although it presents well enough for the grade.
