Boston Comic Book & Toy Spectacular February 18 - Need some advice and opinions

Anyone been to this show and can give me a head's up as to whether or not it's worth going? I'm a little put of by the "Toy Spectacular" part.

Some questions

How big is it?

How many dealer tables?

Am I going to show up only to find table after table of dollar a book boxes?

Is it more toys than comics?

Decent show for Bronze collectors?

Decent show for Silver collectors?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. laugh.gif

Its not great but its also not bad.

There are toys and other krap like that but there are a few dealers with pretty nice selections of BA and sometimes SA books.

I've had pretty good luck every time I have gone.

at least 100 8 foot tables of dealers and creators every show for over ten years.

85 are dealer tables ( 90% comic books and 10% comic related toys), 15 tables are for comic book creators and comic book art.

No bootleg anything and no weapons dealers.

All genre of comics from Golden-Bronze dealers( Jim Payette (his only convention and he brings incredible Gold that is shown nowhere else), Superworld, Odyssey, Golden Age Collectibles and others who specialize in older comics) to dealers who specialize in dollar and less comics such as Monkeyhouse, Web-Head and Katz Komix to dealers who sell all ages of comic book such as Comically Speaking and Harrison's who have six tables each and bring some of everything comic related.

Go to the dealer page at primatepromotions.com and check the web sites of our participating dealers.

Feel free to contact us directly.

Glad to hear it.

We keep as many "kibitser" quasi-dealers as possible out before the show opens. After that, every man, woman(?) and child whether dealer or not is on their own in getting to the shows comicopia of riches. I love the rush at the start of the show when collector's go from the entrance directly to their favorite dealer, want list clutched tightly.

Don't tell Dave, but I am planning on setting up at this one in Feb...I'm trying to clear my weekend to do it. gossip.gif

Don't tell Chris but its almost sold-out of wall spots 893whatthe.gif

Why does he need a wall spot? So he can skip setting up his display? poke2.gif

It makes it easier to guard the toon tumblers.

I agree with what Nik and Mike said. Ultra-high grade collectors will probably be disappointed, it's not that kind of a show. But you can usually find reasonably priced Silver/Bronze and even some bargains. More comics than toys, and definitely not just dollar books. It's typically worth the $6 just to soak up the atmosphere for a couple of hours. ($12, if my wife comes, but the extra is sometimes worth it just to watch her bemused interactions. Tim Cole once gave her a fatherly look and said, "Just keep telling yourself, 'I'm not bored'." She laughed.)

Summary: Not a ton of high grade, but lots more than just junk. Worth most collectors' time, I would say.

Last one I went to one is 1999 before I moved from Boston to SF. Always a good show. From the lineup Dave presented feels pretty much the same to me. Actually, any show with Ted from Superworld is worth the price of admission. If you have specifics in mind you should call a few dealers and ask if they can bring certain things for you to peruse.
