OT: what's on your stereo and bookshelf?

94 posts in this topic

Uhm. Nobody knows the stuff I like because it's usually obscure and diverse. I'm also into a number of Spanish, French, and Brazilian rock and pop artists. Currently on my stereo/mp3/ipod, or whatever anyone wants to call it (although I agree with the original post, it's all stereo):

La Gusana Ciega (the blind worm)-La rueda del diablo - Mexican alt rock

La 5a Estación - El Mundo Se Equivoca - Spain alt/pop rock

Belinda - Utopia, a spanish born singer of Spanish father/French mother, living in Mexico; alt pop/rock al la Avril Lavigne

Skank - Carrossel - Brazilian alt/rock. very Beatles/late 1960s influence

Finally Rick Nelson Perspective/Another Side of Rick double cd, Rick Nelson doing late 1960s kind of psychedelic pop. Most Rick Nelson fans hated it but I really like it.

Mix CD's that focus on 90's Grunge Rock: Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains and the like

Saw Pearl Jam at both Reading and Paris in 2006...Reading was gig of the year. cloud9.gif

I've seen PJ five times, including the infamous "Shoe the Shoeless" concert at Indio in 1993! cloud9.gif

I haven't seen Pearl Jam in a while. At the 1992 Lollapalooza, was pretty good, also at the 1313 Club in Charlotte in 1991. That didn't suck.

Currently listening to Umphrey's McGee live from Chicago on New Year's Eve. They covered " In a Box" for the encore, which was amusing. Also listening to a band you may never have heard of called Will Hoge - he's great, and for the life of me I can't understand why he doesn't get airplay. Also have Devendra Banhart, the Happy Hollows, the Raconteurs, and of course, the Grateful Dead, in heavy iPod rotation.

I very rarely buy music anymore. There's tons of free downloads at Culture Bully (and *geezer voice* you can keep up with what the kids like *end geezer voice*), plus there's literally thousands of concerts from hundreds of bands at the Internet Archive (including almost 3000 Dead shows), all with songs available to download.

Off the Rails by Rudy Sarzo

Whoa, there' a name from my record sleeve-reading past!

I will have to check out the book about the German soldier. It reminds me of Garth Ennis' War Story Jonah's Tiger. One of my favorite comics ever.

As for the Dokken crack, I have no defense except that George Lynch's guitar playing is very listenable.

Credence Clearwater Revival

Even though I have sooo much more on my PC and IPod I realized he was right.

The Forgotten Soldier: Guy Sajer- Just about finished with this one. Unique look at the final days of WW2 from a German Army Soldier's perspective.

Chris

Yeah - a Frenchman in the German army - if I recall correctly, mom was from France and dad was from Germany, enlisted in GrossDeutschland after occupation of France. One of the best WW2 books I have ever read, and I reference items I've learned from that book frequently. A must read, if you want to know what real hardship is.
