Ok, campers...

Keeping in line with the spirit of sharing...and since Steve Borock's exact words were:

"Share all the info you have with whom ever you would like."

If you already know something about handling raw data...

or if you're looking for a challenge... ENJOY!

Great, great stuff VM!

How about a statistical analysis of everyone's "suspects" for the high volume MH2 books? To start, how about a run down of Spidey 31-38 in 9.4 or better? Word on the street has AS 33 much more common than the surrounding issues...

(lotsa high grades...so where'd they come from?) smile.gif

There are obviously other ways to look for the suspects...

but this seems to work for at least part of them!

Was 1976 a good place to stop?

There are lots more in 1977 to 1979.

Come to think of it, the bulk of the 1970s Mile High 2s are probably outside of slabs, so it wasn't that great a test. Although you did pick up a few that I suspect were in that run like Thor 182, the Conans, and Giant Size Super Stars 1. The 1960s list is VERY good though, I bet the majority of those books were Mile High 2s.

How did FF 48 not make the 1960s list? I know that was in Mile High 2, and it makes all the other 1960s FFs look tiny when you compare the counts.

I don't doubt your info... my query doesn't know anything about Mile High 2.

It's just looking for certain conditions that make some books stand out.

Since FF 48 is a key issue... you've got tons of submissions from everywhere.

The query I ran will highlight books that seem "too" high grade by percentage.

FF 48 has enough 8.0's to 9.2's to balance out the 9.4+'s.

Those books in the list are mostly "otherwise unimportant" books...

but they've got lots of high grade submissions... why?

Maybe because of "large supplies" in high grade.

That is a key and therefore would be more heavily submitted, but when you compare it to other comparable keys, it's obvious the count is comparatively out of whack. Someone here in the forums saw an FF 48 sold on ebay that had a Mile High 2 certificate. Keys from that era don't usually survive in much greater numbers, especially that one; it wasn't significantly higher in value than the surrounding issues for at least a decade after its release. 49 and 50 are fairly key, also...but a comparatively tiny number survived.

You might want to relax the bias filter...

hey Valiant! I downloaded your data file (thanx for sharing, Steve!) and I got a few questions: (surprised, huh?)

Why do they come in all out of order, a few books per title at a time. I would have thought your data collecting mechanism would bring them in by title, ssue number etc?? Or, is this CGC's raw data file, so they are actually in th esame order that they were recorded into their system?

Also, a few numbers are skipped (I think 40 out of 35000-something) Whay did this happen? Are these graded books deleted from their data? resubmissions maybe? And if so, ONLY 40 to date???

ANyway Im gonna have some fun. Of course, not having any idea how to "compile" the data as sweetly as you do, it take me awhile. Ive got it in Excel. And first thing I notice is that I want to rearrange the order of the data. Id rather look at all grades for all Universal copies; then totals; then all restored, and then qualified etc. ANy idea on a quick way to reoder all the columns???

As I said earlier, I'm sure there are tons of ways to look for MH2 evidence.

If I relax the bias filter... I'll get thousands of hits... quickly.

(Which I don't think any of us want to scroll through in this thread.)

Actually, my method doesn't even check the "nearby" issues...so it doesn't know

that Thor 155 and Thor 157 are comparatively smaller than Thor 156.

Thor 156 stands out because it's got "too many" 9.4+'s for its own good. smile.gif

Since we have had this:

"Totals for unrestored copies of Spidey 31 to 38 in 9.4 or better"

How about the totals in 9.4 or better for ALL the ASM's from 1-50.

valiantman or ff...

Why do they come in all out of order, a few books per title at a time.

Yep... that's CGC's ComicID in the first field. They number them that way. smile.gif

Looks like the order they received their first copy of a book.

Also, a few numbers are skipped (I think 40 out of 35000-something)

Those appear to be deletions.

Either they are "duplicates" (Something misspelled that was corrected elsewhere)

Or they are comics removed due to open holders, etc.

I'd be willing to bet they're mostly "de-duplication" removals.

Not bad that they only had 40 "spelling/title errors" out of 37,000+.

Any idea on a quick way to reoder all the columns?

In Excel, select everything (and I do mean everything), and choose Data -> Sort

(then select your primary, secondary sort fields)

I haven't used Excel at all... Microsoft Access is my tool of choice. smile.gif

As humbly as possible, I can tell you that answering a lot of these questions

is a lot like translating questions & answers into Chinese.

It's not exactly something people pick up overnight.

(But, everybody starts somewhere!)

CGCs ID field? So this is the "random" order in which each issue number of each title was sent in for grading? That is REALLY cool. I resorted them all by publisher/title/issue already, but I think the first ten book sthey graded included Tec 27 and other big books. I wonder whose they were??? Must be someone close to CGC to have started them off...

Thanx for your answer as to sorting th ecolumns...but I wasnt clear. I can sort the contents pretty well....I want to re-order the columns. I wonder if they can be sorted by their headers. or clicked and dragged left and right. But thats tedious too. I wish you were here to just write a quick macro to reorder the contents!!

oh well. Its amazing to have all this data to play with....and t be able to look at 50 books info at a glance .. If I could I d give you 5 more stars.
