I am flailing in this contest, so take my comments with a chunk of salt. But I still dont understand the scoring this time. I dont understand why being one grade off should yield differents amount of points on high or low grade books! If the answer is 8.5 and we say 8.0 or 9.0, we get one point. But if its a 9.2 we'd get 2 points for either of the two possible adjacent grades. And worst, a 9.0 book means guess on the low side gets you less points than overgrading a notch.

 

Cause thats the flaw: guessing ONE NOTCH off should always earn the same # of points. Its not like we have any other choices on lower grad books since all the CGC grades are .5 apart from one another. Lets rethink this next time. While it makes some sort of sense that a guess closer to the actual grade (.2 vs ,5) should be valued more, we have no control over that! One grade level is one grade level!

Great minds think alike. I was just thinking a few days ago how a negative score possibility would be an interesting factor to throw into the mix.

 

This time around I do like the wider point spread between being dead-on and missing by a level. It's created a more volatile, exciting race to the end and it's still wide open. In past contests, if you tanked more than 2 rounds you were dead in the water...
