I try where I can to collect high grade stuff, and so there are times where I might share a book from my collection and feel like it stands out as something pretty special, but there are also plenty of times when I see higher-grade examples of books I own, books I don't currently own but wish to own, or even books that I'm pretty sure I'll never have a chance to own. There will always be somebody out there who has a "better" collection (a highly subjective term!), or at least a "better" copy of a particular book than yours. Somebody out there (several somebodies, I imagine) can say they have ridiculous high grade copies of the most sought-after Golden Age and Silver Age keys in existence. And that's awesome. But my advice to anyone who cares to listen would be, don't let that take even the tiniest bite out of the enjoyment you get from your own books! Every book you own, especially the ones you had to save up to afford or search far and wide to track down, has an intrinsic value to you that goes way beyond whatever its market value may be. Even the most humble reader copy can bring its owner tremendous satisfaction. If there's a book you've always wanted to have, and it's eating at you that it's become difficult or even impossible to afford in a certain grade, go out and find a lower-grade copy that you really like and go get it. You might be surprised how happy you are with it. There's a reason why people on this forum are generally so supportive of each other's collecting achievements regardless of whether a particular book is among the highest-grade copies -- why people are so quick to compliment a mid-grade book by saying "that looks great for the grade" or pointing out some specific feature it has (page quality, centering, colors, even a quirky date stamp) that makes the book special. It's because most boardies truly appreciate how much time, energy and money we all put into the hobby, and how few people can really appreciate what it is about that particular book that made it worth how hard you worked to get it. As for the books on your wall ... that is a really stunning collection and I have to agree with what you said. As much as I appreciate what CGC has done for the hobby, a display of raw keys like you've put together lets you just focus on the books themselves, in a way that's pretty much impossible when they're in the slabs. It's a shame, really, to think of how much time the eye ends up spending on that blue piece of paper at the top of the slab compared to the book itself. You should be super proud of that collection! Popular Post Robot Man
Being on these boards really makes me a little sad sometimes. I see people post wonderful books with an apology about the grade. I seem to see it more and more. You have to remember what brought you into this great hobby. The condition or the book itself. I collect GA books primarily. There are books that turn up almost never. I am more than happy to obtain a low grade one than pass and never have a copy. If I can upgrade later, great. Often, it has proved impossible or just too expensive to justify it. Collect what you like in any grade you want or can afford. No shame in that. Someone else will always have a "bigger pp". Share your treasures with pride. Have we all become so jaded that the first thing we notice is the number in the upper left corner or the cool book entoumbed inside? The Less Blob
I would like to frame some of my OA, which I acquired mostly 15-18 years ago, but I feel silly spending serious money framing pages that cost less than $30-40 a pop. For example I have some great Archie pages (whole stories) from the early 60s ( Archie as Tarzan), but professionally framing 5 pages will cost more than the pages. What is the cheapest frame you've seen out there that will work? I want something made with archival materials and preferably some UV protection. If they come in sizes close to OA sizes I can live without matting.

I've used them for about the last 8 years ago and nothing i've put in them has yellowed (but I also never put them in direct sunlight) http://www.bagsunlimited.com/category/200/original-comic-art-frames That answers my question. Thanks. More than I want to pay, but I am a cheap and need to suck it up. Pete Marino

Maybe a stack of old Heritage catalogs i actually found the Marvel Tales I did an experiment on to show that putting books in a tightly pack box is not equivalent to press. Not sure how many years it was sitting with 80lbs of weight on it, but the non color breaking crease is still there.

Both were about 80% corrected. Obviously a professional press gets this done in a day and may be 100%.

Might be tricky having SA vs. GA though. Well I can't control how other people frame their comics and I can never un-know the grades of my own, so that seems fruitless. I like my setup because aside from my trinity frame, I can easily swap out graded comics on my wall. Only problem is I need more graded comics to be able to swap out regularly. I really like my 12-comic ungraded tri-fold frame that I can also swap out, but I completely forgot to both buy more of and swap in Christmas themed covers this past December. Loved seeing Iron Man #254 in there last year. Edit: and before I even hit Submit Reply, I got distracted and ended up on ebay buying a few of them.
