2007 collecting goals.....

48 posts in this topic

Persue the underappreciated Kirby & Ditko titles: Out Of This World, Strange Worlds, Tales Of The Mysterious Traveller, Mysteries Of Unexplored Worlds, Battle, etc in Fine or better condition. I've also found myself going after more DC issues. Got a Superman #199 in my sights 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

My collecting goal...is to actually stick to my collecting goal!! foreheadslap.gif I didn't do too good of a job in 2006...dropping over 2000.00 on books not on my current list and missing out on a few others that I didn't have the cash for because of it...

sorry.gif

Seriously though...my goal is to have my TTA registry set 50% complete (currently 34%) and hopefully getting a 60 in 9.4 for a reasonable price. Also to add a few pedigreed Hulks as well...I've started off pretty well...we'll see how the rest of the year goes and what's available!! Hopefully FT doesn't have too many more books I want insane.gif

To slowly keep filling the holes within my X-men run (maybe pick up some HG's along the way).

Also look at adding to the small collection of Thor's and Silver Surfer's.

Plus keep an eye out for anything that grabs my attention.

Aside from my Copper/Modern age part of my collection I will like to pick up at least one of my Bronze Age grails. The chance of this actually happening is only about 10 percent but I will like to get one of these three or at least start saving to get one... X-Men 94 9.6, Giant Size X-Men 1 9.6 or Incredible Hulk 181 9.6 White Pages.

This year I'm going to work on my FF #1-50 run, pick up a few TTA's,and 1 or 2 more Timely's.Once my FF run is done,I'm going to dive head first into my GA Human Torch run,and grab more Cap's,Marvel Mystery,All Select,All Winners,USA Timely's......I'm hooked on the golden age now,and hunting these books down is much more of a challenge to me.I would rather buy a few expensive GA books a year, than 100 silver or bronze.I like the history behind GA books, they are like museum pieces to me.......... thumbsup2.gif

For the rest, a memorial service will be held for the dis-honour of thses 2. Feel free to bring a long box or 2 of GA to fuel the pyre we will lighting under them.

Refreshments will be available, but no porn stars will be in attendance to this event. Strictly an all ages event. thumbsup2.gif

I'm going to pay off a slabbed 6.0 copy of FF # 1 this year and then rest my poor tired wallet...Ideally I wanted to finish 2 - 20 this year in 7.0 or better as well, but I don't think it's going to happen...baby steps, baby steps!

My plan is to sell a large slice of my collection.... on here hopefully, so that will mean flogging off a lot of Marvel SA and BA stuff.

Saying that I too would like a nice mid grade DD #1 & 2 I am almost there for a complete run to 250.

I am also looking to close in on my Flash collection, need a few early ones here as well as B&B first Hawkman, First Sea Devils Showcase, All the Rip Hunter Showcases, first Atom Showcase and finish off my Sea Devil & Rip Hunter runs.

Thanks to these boards..... I mean.... why do you lot keep posting all these great scans of books.... It should be against the law!! You are costing me a fortune!! I am now keen to get as many grey tone war covers as well as collect some of the DC war series!

Obviously this will not be achieveable in one year, but some of those will be nice. Plus there are always the surprises, the things you never knew you were going to be interested in.

Good luck all!! thumbsup2.gif

Oh yeah..... not forgetting my horor collection!! 893whatthe.gif

Thats all Silver gold right there! All power to you. thumbsup2.gif

Trouble is I keep getting sidetracked onto other stuff all the time!! They are not going to come cheap, so it will be a case of watch carefully, I don't want anything under a Fine either really, I can't even consider high grade at the prices!!

As I said, maybe not this year, but one or even 2 of those would be nice!! thumbsup2.gif

Over the summer I would like to try to sell some of the unwanted comics in my small collection (or just give them away rather then have them sit around unread in my closet) and maybe make enough to buy something on one of my various lists. It would be nice to finish one of the longstanding goals I have had for a few years: Iron Man 1-20; FF 50-100; generally filling in some of the holes in a variety of other titles.

Considering I collect mostly low-grade, one would think I could accomplish something by the time 2008 rolls around...

About 7 years ago, I went to the Motor City Con with what I considered a lot of money. ($900.00 I had saved up) My goal was Conan #1 in NM or better and X-Men #94 in NM or better.

I got the Conan and a few smaller books, but couldn't find a X-Men #94 in any better than VF or that wasn't way over-priced (and undergraded). But I did find a huge stash of very nice SA JLA's at Dale Robert's booth. On the other side, of his booth I found a beautiful GS X-Men #1 that had to at least be a 9.2 for $500.00. It was a fair price but so were buying 25 JLA books that would fill a huge hole in my #1 priority collection. It took about an hour of agonizing before I went with the JLA's.

In some regards, I regret passing up a HG GS X-Men #1 while I could afford it, but I also was pleased with filling in so much of my JLA's. (Pretty much books in the 40's to 80's.) I went with the quantity in the end, but it did bring me satisfaction in making the biggest step I ever had in completing my JLA collection. It was then I saw the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel" for that collection. I knew then that I was much closer to completing it.
