Wild story! Even a rudely surprising, non-PC ending. "The Living Vitamin!" Hart = Ernie Hart? Jack It's also my understanding this is Ernie Hart. Did you catch the other non-PC line below the cereals ad? "Attention: Women over 300 lbs! ... are you fat? ..." and I'm sure you caught the innuendo on the last page: "Jeepers! After what I did, I expected more from her than this!" (i.e., more than her hand. Wink wink Nod nod). Plus the great cartooning and the lame rhyming (sp?). This one caught my eye right away. Did you catch the other non-PC line below the cereals ad? "Attention: Women over 300 lbs! ... are you fat? ..." Worse yet, under "Booberknocker's buttermilk for better built bodies". Yikes!! and I'm sure you caught the innuendo on the last page: "Jeepers! After what I did, I expected more from her than this!" (i.e., more than her hand. Wink wink Nod nod). Which struck me as strange, since Mitymite is still supposed to be a child here, right? Plus the great cartooning and the lame rhyming (sp?). This one caught my eye right away. Definitely an oddball story. Jack

Scrooge
Definitely an oddball story. But of the right sort! Thanks, Scrooge! Thank you guys. It seems the crowd is ready for the most entertaining Captain Marvel story I've ever read (granted, I haven't read many ...) and one that Jeff should thoroughly enjoy once he's back online -

BangZoom
Scrooge, I enjoyed both stories you posted today. When I started collecting Golden Age comics, I tried reading Captain Marvel but never became a fan. Today's story has gotten me curious enough that I might try reading a few issues to see if my opinion about them has changed. Captain Marvel fans, can you recommend any specific issues that you feel are especially good? I love the Times Square panel below.
BangZoom
You know ... I would have been immensely mad if I couldn't find the next issue of that book to continue the story as a kid in 1939. For that matter, who can tell me what happened? I forgot to comment when you posted this story. I have the next issue. I'll check it to see what happened. I posted that cover the night I started this thread. BangZoom
The course consisted of 10 chapters, totaling 134 pages. This copy is dated September 9, 1938. FRANK Shuster? So this is by Joe's cousin of "Wayne and Shuster" fame! When I've seen this item mentioned before, I thought it was by Jerry and Joe! Jack Jack, you and I both assumed it was Joe's cousin (and it probably is, I'm guessing), but Joe's brother is also named Frank. I just learned that from reading it in, "Men of Tomorrow." BangZoom
We're still on a Lou Fine kick. This next story should clearly explain why all the artists of that time (circa 1940 / 1941) would check what Lou was doing and would want to be fine like Fine - Scrooge, as much as I liked the previous Lou Fine story you posted, I like this one even more. Do you have any others?

I read the book at least a year ago but didn't remember Joe's brother's name. I wonder which Frank it was. Jack

selegue
It's been a while since I posted scans of a group of assorted comics. I was considering the following issues for tomorrow night. ..... Let me know if there's an interest in any of them. Let's check back in the thread to where viewers said, "NO! Don't post THAT!!" Yes, I have others but I figured I'll hold them for a while. In the meantime, here's a Gustavson Alias the Spider story. The story ain't Shakespeare but we kind of expect that ... - From Crack Comics # 14 -
BangZoom
Thanks, Scrooge. I enjoyed that look at an unfamiliar character. I like Paul Gustavson's artwork. His drawing of The Spider in some panels reminds me of Lou Fine. Doesn't the Spider's long sleeved yellow shirt and blue shorts seem like an odd costume choice for someone with his name.
