any winners yet?

Nope. And no more random guesses you bunch of slackers. Work for it!

Take a look at my clues. What is X-Men 417 noteworthy for?

And I use the term "noteworthy" in a very loose sense.

Or Gwen, what is her history?

I think I've got it . . . Warren Worthington's parents (from X-men 417) first appeared in X-men 17.

Gwen Stacy first appeared in ASM #31.

These issues were both released in December 1965.

That same month, Gene Colan did his first Marvel superhero work in the pages of Sub-Mariner, under a pseudonym (Adam Austin).

Am I close? If not, I give up.

Never read "Dominant Species", but here's how I pieced together my answer.

Google

Amazing Spider-Man 31 - 1st Gwen Stacy - 1965

Google -

eisner lifetime achievement award comic. Led me to the Kitchen website:

Eisner tabbed "a national treasure" by Feiffer in 1965.

Wins the Milton Caniff lifetime achievement award 1994.

It's a stretch

You are so good. I was hoping to challenge you. Gwen's first appearance is indeed one of the threads. So yes, you are close. Someone besides Warren Worthington's parents made a first appearance in X-Men 417.

I like the way you are using your brain. You have the Gwen thread. You need to try again though on the X-Men 417 thread.
