I haven't really heard a fan of the Miller Daredevils say they didn't like the film yet.

I would argue it's not possible to DIS-like the film's story yet LIKE the comic's story. They changed a few things, but nothing major...the story remained remarkably true to the comic.

What?!!! I consider myself to be as big a Miller DD fan as they come - l'll bet I've read Miller's DD & Elektra stories more than any of you (I'm certain nobody has read DD #181 as many times as I have), not to mention accumulated a huge collection of the comics, TPBs (in two languages, to boot), artwork, autographs, movie scripts, etc.

And yes, I thought the movie SUCKED. Talk about the triumph of form over substance - all action and little story in its far-too-short running time. And, true to the comics? Like DD killing the rapist "Quesada"? Don't recall DD being a cold-blooded killer. Battlin' Jack Murdock being a small-time Mob enforcer? Don't recall seeing that in the comics. Matt gaining his powers while fleeing in horror from watching his dad shake down a guy instead of heroically saving an old man? Where was that in the comics? Elektra's dad being a pawn of the Kingpin? What about the lush origin of Elektra, departing in anger, finding the Chaste and being rejected by them only to end up becoming a tool of the Hand? All gone. And though we all accept it now, how can we ever forgive the complete butchering of Bullseye?

Not to mention Bullseye is supposed to be trash-talking trailer trash, not some brooding, grunting Irishman who barely speaks. Elektra is supposed to be an exotic Greek heiress, not an all-American beauty with a very American accent.

Where was the supporting cast - Turk and Grotto? Stick? Vanessa Fisk? Slaughter? The Punisher? You can argue that they did the best they could, but without all these intricacies and sub-plots, let's not say that you couldn't hate the film if you loved the comics.

Sure I do. Now I've got a question for you - do you ever say anything that isn't hopelessly Pollyannish? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I just speak my mind, like or not I don't care,I wouldn't say anything here i wouldn't say to your face if I met you..maybe if i was to start talking negative all the time and say everything sucks and we should forget comics and invest in stocks and coins instead you'd understand like this...DD movie sucked, every comic movie has sucked so far actually, nothing like the comics. The market is crashing and get out while you still have money to invest in gold and silver.

That's your point of view. There are many people on this thread who agree with me that DD sucked. I wrote a reasonably positive review of The Hulk, a movie which you made out to be on the level of Casablanca or Citizen Kane. I posted that X2 was the best comic movie ever made, before Wizard seconded that motion. I write "positive" things all the time about books I like, artists I like, movies I like. However, I'm not a Marvel Zombie, DC Fanatic, Wizard Fanboy or other hopeless optimist with mass-market tastes. I'm a discriminating reader, viewer and collector. If something sucks, I have no problems saying so, regardless of what people say. I'm not trying to win any popularity contests here.

As for the comic market, I maintain that "investing" in plastic-slabbed funny books after a parabolic advance is a fool's endeavor. If you're a collector with resources, like Murph0, go ahead and buy. However, for the crowd that's living hand-to-mouth, racking up credit card bills and time payments to "invest" in the market (you know who you are and so do I), I think you're deluding yourself thinking you're going to make out-sized returns with no/low risk because you think you "know" the comic market and have an edge. Yeah, you and everybody else on eBay and the Boards. 893naughty-thumb.gif

I think most people would do better with a diversified portfolio, and by that I don't mean 25% Golden Age, 45% Silver Age, 15% Bronze Age, 10% Modern Age and 5% Original Art. tongue.gif

I can't stand it anymore on these boards. I see hypocricy all over the place...kevin, george, gene, and many others on here are very opinioned and that is completely fine. What my problem is with this attitute that everyone is being negative about "this movie, this artist, this comic or whatever" and yet they slam someone else for not liking something or for liking something. And then they accuse each other of being "too negative". Well, I am saying that people can't see the forest thru the trees !

1. The DD movie was very good...imho....Gene, Gman and a few others didn't care for it. Ok....what's wrong with that ?? - So What ! - I disagree, but they are entitled to dislike something without it being personel.

2. The Hulk movie was excellent. I think that too many critics and comic fans have slammed the movie without justification. True it doesn't have the mass appeal that Spideman had, but he's a very different character with a completly different agenda than Spidey. He's not likable teen ager who people can relate to. I think that Kevin is so vocal about the movie is because so many people have been bashing it, that he feels that is deserves a better rap. I don't think he thinks it's "Casablanca"- (my favorite movie)

3. The whole CGC/Market Crashing/ Investments thing is completly objective. Everyone has an opinion and they are justified in voicing it here. This is why these boards are here.. But, unfortunately people can't be mature and adults and respect someone's opinion and just acknowledge that it's differant. I happen to think the Bronze Age stuff isn't the way to go...I would rather invest in Silver Age and DC at that ! - That is not what a majority of what people on here collect, yet they are not bad people cause they aren't into Batman or Justice League...or they think that Neal Adams is an overrated artist....

4. I think we all take this stuff a little too seriously....imho.....

as far as investment in Bronze age, whether you like those books or not, they are increasing in price much faster than Silver age books. Im speaking about commons, not keys.

Heres how he usually does it: Many SIlver Age books in the major DC and Marvel runs are already between $75 and $110 after many consistent raises in annual Guides. He raises these either $5 or $10 a year Thats between a 6% to 15% increase. The BA books are still much cheaper, but they are beginning the price climb that SA did 10 years ago. The cheapest go from $7 up to $8, or $10 up to $12, or $12 to $15, $15 to $20... these increases are 16% to 33%

Its true that since these are so cheap relative to SA there is a wide variance of the prices these actually sell for, but overall, sales are based largely on Overstreet, and to them, BA is where the movement is most pronounced right now. I am in th eprocess of manulaly updating my software and go thru every book in guide one by one...

1. The DD movie was very good...imho

Saw it for the 1st time last weekend. Rented it cuase I KNEW I would hate it from the trailers. Turned out I really liked it. They got the pacing down perfectly - no last half of the movie over the top insanity. Just very well paced and eminiently re-watchable.

We rented it. I thought it was fine - amusing but fine. I liked Bullseye, and wish he could have been in the movie more. More importantly, my 8-year-old son LOVED it, just LOVED it. He's the target demo, not us fanboys.

Collin Farrell brings an intensity to all of his roles that is fairly compelling to watch, and I loved what he did with Bullseye. Even though they changed Bullseye's style quite a bit in the film as compared to the comic, all of the cockiness and attitude were there; I thought he did extremely well. His impatient, nervous arrogance was fun to watch.
