Ebay Shenanigans - Buyers Beware!

So is the seller claiming that there is something called

the "Golden Record" pedigree? That's pathetic.

The book is from the Monterey Collection...that's the pedigree he is referring to in the email. gossip.gif

my guestimate?

300-1k.

But the point isn't what the book is worth- the point is it's clearly a scammer method of selling books. The only way you could know this wasn't a true 1, was if you knew the phrase "Golden Record" meant "reprint book" and the phrase is even removed from the actual title line of the comic. As well as an unreadable scan, etc. etc.

true true.

very scammish indeed. hopefully that guy won't get that extra $1000. stunts like that aren't good for ebay.

one more reason I'm glad I found these boards

Ahhhh. Entiendo ahora.

Anyway, the auction is gone now. Good riddance. Sellers like that give

eBay a bad image (as if it could get worse).

The auction isn't gone, it's got 1.5 hours left to go. Read my post above. I hope some crimebuster on this board bids with an altie and wins this auction thumbsup2.gif

Oops, you're right -- I got my links mixed up.

Does eBay care about this type of stuff? To my mind, the seller is clearly

criminal. He's done the absolute minimum (included the line "Golden Record")

that will let him later claim that "I described clearly what it was."

But you have to know a little about comics to recognize this.

A 9.6 GRR of Spider-Man 1 does have considerable value -- I'd like to know

whether the high bidder really knows what this item is. And thanks to eBay's

wonderful rules, if you email the bidders and tell them what's going on, it's

"auction interference."

Nobody thought they were getting a real copy of Amazing spider-man #1 CGC 9.6 for 2K. Unless your an absolute *spoon* you would realize that these books go for 6 digit figures. I do understand the sneakiness of the seller as you can see I started the original thread to derail this dummy when his 1st auction went up to over 10K and Borock got involved with his contact at CGC and the auction was ended. He had it ended again yesterday then re-listed. The 1st time when it hit 10,000USD+++ I'd say we had someone with too much money who thought they were getting a deal as the seller listed that it was JJJ's 1st appearance along with the Chameleon's 1st app as well. This time he put just enough info to get away with it. As his listing did get yanked 2 times though, I believe if ebay catches wind of this 3rd listing... His ebay account is done. I've seen it plenty of times.

You couldn't have emailed the bidders anyway (while the auction was running, at least). Any auction over $200 has the bidders' names hidden (until the auction is over) AND he made the re-list a Private auction, so we'll probably never know who bought it.
