Notice about "signature window panes" cut into comic bags for SS submissions.

Signature Series Witnessess = Please take note.

Many of you have started to cut signature "windows" on one side of the comic bags in order to protect your collectibles during signings.

It is an approach that has worked well for many, including books submitted at the booth at shows. I use this method myself.

However, please note that when you submit these items you must use one of the three approaches BEFORE submitting:

1. Remove the book from the "windowed" bag and place it in a normal, uncut bag or mylar sleeve.

2. Place the comic in the "windowed" bag inside a normal, uncut bag or mylar sleeve.

or

3. Reverse the "windowed" bag so that the comic is no longer exposed.

This will assist in protecting your autographed collectibles in transit and thru the grading process. Not applying one of the three methods listed above, you are putting your collectible at risk.

If you have been using one of those approaches, thank you! If you haven't, please start!

by cutting a 'signature window', does that mean you have already confined the artist to a designated signing area? or is the window still large enough that the artist still decides where to sign?

what do you do with artists like simonson or sienkiewicz who's signature takes up almost the entire width of the book?

To my knowledge, there are no comic bag manufacturers that make coloured bags.

There are methods used to define the border and prevent creators from signing on an uncut area, such as taking a sharpie and colouring the bag or defining the edges of the area, or using masking tape. These methods vary per person, each person swears by the effectiveness of their specific procedure.

There are things like ziplock baggies that may be differently coloured, but they are not recommended for short term preservation.

Depends on the person cutting.

When I do it, I tend to leave an inch around each edge.

If the creator feels confined and would like more space, the book can be removed from the holder.

A few people have questioned why this is being posted here, instead of on a PM or by e-mail.

Aside from being the fastest method to spread the word to all of you who are Witnesses who post here, this is also a notification to SS customers who prepare their books in advance for SS signings, as some SS customers have also adopted the method of cutting windows in bags (sometimes at the request of the SS Witness) to assist the Witnesses in the field.

A window? Could you post a pic?

Difficult to post a pic. Easier to explain/imagine.

Take a bag with a board in it, then imagine someone cutting a section of the front out with a blade, then inserting a comic book. Exposed area is the area available to the creator to sign the book.

Reduces the possibility of corners being bent or spines being creased while the creator(s) are signing the book.

How do you become an SS witness?? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
You can't, everyone else can.

Any and all books you see, and/or send in and get back may be hacked up due to not being 9.8's.

Just the sight of a 9.0 might be enough to make you lose your mind and forget to send it to the owner.
