CHICAGO Con

3 months away, and I have to admit I am pretty excited about making the trip yay.gif

Who else is going? Can we get ideas from native Chicagoans what is near the convention center? Any good Greek establishments for dining and boozing?

Looking to buy losts of funny books, eat, drink and be merry for 3 days headbang.gifheadbang.gif

Most of the good Greek places are downtown, which isn't close to the con. The show is actually in Rosemont, which is about 30 minutes or so from The Loop in non-rush hour traffic. However, one of the best Italian Beef places and one of the best hot dog places are not far from the con.

I am hoping to make the con for a day or two, so hopefully some people can go out to lunch one of the days.

Wiggum: Put out an APB on a Uosdwis R. Dewoh. Uh, better start with Greektown.

Friday: That's "Homer J. Simpson", Chief. You're reading it upside down.

Wiggum: Uh, cancel that APB. But, uh, bring back some of them, uh, gyros.

Friday: Uh, Chief? You're talking into your wallet.

Rosemont sounds very familiar. Back in 89 when we were training to be Shell dealers I was there for 2 weeks. The Greatful Dead were in town that weekend, and I had a blast after hours yay.gif

I remember goint to one Greek restaurant were I was staying and it was fantastic.

If you want food very close to the convention center.

Gibsons is right next to the parking garage (hi - end steak joint)

for Mexican there is Maria's around the corner. thumbsup2.gif

There is Rosewood just north of the convention (another hi end steak place)

more casual is Giordano's for Pizza.

If you want an Italian/steak place that is great head south 5 minutes to Gianotti's...be sure to bring your pinky ring...they check for them at the door.

The best places for Greek food are in the City. Depending on traffic 30 minutes to one hour away.

Chris

PS if you are already Greek don't you just call "Greek Food".....food?

But for atmosphere, Greek Town can't be beat.

Which is your favorite? I have eaten in the takeout places, but I haven't gone to a sit-down place since I went to the Greek Islands for homecoming my junior year of high school. crazy.gif

There are quite a few big cities that have Greek Towns (and China Towns, etc). Detroit has an excellent Greektown, that includes a top-notch casino. Opa! thumbsup2.gif

Bah. You come to Chicago and get a beef, hot dog or deep dish. You can get a good burger anywhere. poke2.gif
