What are the "Lower print" ASM's? - Later 1990's

wow! Who would have thought 2005 had less sales then any other year!

 

As I've been saying for-like-ever, the majority of individual comic sales are down, but Marvel keeps jacking the cover price to increase profits.

 

It's even worse, as those new figures are based on "comic book shop sales" rather than true sales, as the older ones are.

Well that list is only for the flagship ASM title.

 

You have to remember that for alot of those years ASM was the only Spidey title, and in a lot of years there might have been only spectacular and asm.

 

Now there are many many many Spidey titles and spinoffs and miniseries and while the flagship numbers might be down it doesn't necessarily mean the numbers are down for "spidey books" overall.

I see those stats are from John Jackson Miller. Same guy who's figures are posted at cbgxtra.com. The number seem somewhat contradictory. Do the comichron.com figures include newstand sales?

 

When you look at the direct market figures from cbgxtra.com for ASM, you can easily see that the monthly sales figures were in the pits in 1999/2000 and much of 2001... and this despite the renumbering/relaunch with a #1 issue...

If JJM is correct, up until 1972 there was only ASM. What was the first non-ASM non-reprint Spidey title? Must have been Marvel Team-Up in 1972. Including reprint titles you'd have to say Marvel Tales which started around 1966 I think.

MT started in 1966, and was there ever a time when ONLY Amazing and PP were published, with no other Spidey mags? Hardly a "lot of years" for either example.

 

I'm also forgetting about the Super Spidey Stories.

I just picked up a #432 Wanted version - I looked on GCD and see a different cover on 432. Same thing on the 434 - I have "The Amazing Ricochet" cover. 432 is a Direct issue and so is the 434 I think. Were there 2 variant covers on these two issues? What about 431, why did you mention it along with 432?
