If I get a grade s.s with 1 signature and crack it open for a 2nd cgc withnessed signature, do I need to send my previous yellow lable to cgc to prove that the first one was cgc withnessed?

Generally speaking the slab would have to cracked in the presence of a CGC employee to keep it's status as a signature series book. If you just decide to crack the book yourself, it will lose it's designation.

Books must be cracked, as Pirate pointed out, in the presence of a Witness.

 

Yes, the old label must be submitted with the book as it is the only verification for the original signature(s), without the label the book gets qualified or downgraded for writing on cover.
