Can anyone provide me with info on this stuff. I know nothing at all about this stuff. Being a huge fan of the series I would love to own something like this. The 90s animated series is actually the main reason why I love and collect X-Men comics.

That's a nice piece. Usually, dealers and and auctions only contain the character cels and not the background. I am no expert on this, but I believe the cels are painted on a plastic acetate. The clean up is essentially a sketch piece.

Generally, I see just character cels from Fox shows at about $200-$400 or so. I don't really see backgrounds that much, so that's harder to estimate. If it were owned by a dealer we'd probably see the set priced at around $800-1000. I've never really seen what these go for in auction though.

Good luck MutantKeys. I think anyone who was a kid back then and into comics, loved the cartoon. I still watch it and enjoy it just as much as then.

There are many animation production art dealers out there that sell similar cels and production sketches. Not just from Fox shows, but vintage Warner Bros. pieces from Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng, as well as Disney and Hanna Barbara. Off hand I think you might want to check out animationconnection.com and vegalleries.com (Van Eaton galleries). I forgot if they have X-men pieces though, although I think they do. Generally speaking, if you search the different dealers you can find more X-men pieces, Spider-man and Batman pieces. At the last Megacon there was actually a dealer at the show who had X-men cels. So, even at comic cons there is sometimes some cels for sale.

I have the bootleg box set and it brings back memories.

Thanks, I never searched for this stuff before but I wouldnt mind owning any of the spidey or batman cells either or anything that I remember when I was a kid. I will check those sites out and research for others.

On the first one, it's just a sketch. Unless the sketch is from older cartoons (1960s and earlier) then they are not worth that much. The cels are what carry some value when talking new material.

The second auction is probably because it's a pretty bad piece--who wants a butt shot of Pyro? :whatev:

Yeah but look on ebay and there's a ton of them especially from this same seller. 5.00 or 10.00 is a far cry from the money some people were throwing out there. Here's a decent Magneto one.

Again I don't see the difference between one of these and 1000.00 for a similar one but from a dealer?

That Magneto piece is a very nice one. I would have bid if I had seen it. Anyway, the Wolverine piece would be priced so high because it comes with the sketch AND the background. The background is important. Often times backgrounds are worth more then the cels, unless it's an iconic cel image. Plus you have to add in the fact that dealers overprice these anyway. That's why I haven't bought one. I love the cartoons but I just think dealers do overprice them, and when I weight what my money could get me in comic OA or comics, versus animtation cel art the comics have always won.
