  1. The other thing is, why did he believe Vader could be redeemed but Ben Solo can't be. I don't know there's just so much unexplained and the whole Luke treatment is silly. Other masters have failed in training and that part is an interesting thread. But I think a force ghost convo that included Obi Wan on that subject would have been great.
  2. Probably -- I mean, I think it was slightly undervalued before, but without a definite movie, I think the character is going slip back a bit, we'll see if any really high end copies seep out, but there was a 9.2 in the most recent Link auction and while it wasn't a "great" 9.2 it didn't perform that great. It's still not going to come back to pre run up #s though
  3. 9.2 is no longer top census. There's now a single 9.4
  4. BB 28 is a cool book and a better book than Avengers 1 (at least in terms of scarcity in grade) but with that said, I don't think it's a six figure book in 9.0 but probably just under that for a really nice copy. Having owned a two 9.0s and a 9.2 I can only say this is not one of the DC SA keys that I truly desire in grade. As a series and the covers, I prefer Flash, Action, Superman and of course anything Batman related with a great cover.
  5. I'm not 100% sure you're interpreting the comment on pricing correctly either as a "complaint" but regardless of that, let me make a slightly different take on that. In years prior, I believe that boardies discounted books to one another, or were more accommodating in terms of filling in folks' collections etc. Not everyone did this, but there were several people who did. When I originally started selling, I definitely took that attitude and I always wanted to pass on discounts to people I believed were trying to fill in things for their collection or give other dealers a deal too. The culture did shift and there's nothing wrong with wanting market value, but as the marketplace became more about sales and less about community, I think it became more of just another place to sell. And I'm guilty of contributing to that too as I had some massive sales threads that were very popular, but I was seeing it more as a place to sell and a little less about the people I was selling to. People are entitled to ask whatever they want and of course for books that are hot, they should ask whatever they feel is fair. I would say when I am truly interested in moving something I perceive as common, I discount to GPA because we are on a fee free forum. Cost of doing business if I go to eBay or I have to auction it, and I pass that savings on if I can. But I don't want to call out someone either for not agreeing with my particular philosophy because I don't know that theirs is wrong, I just have a different approach. If people feel "entitled" to a lower price then I agree with you. If people are endlessly heckled for not following the rules, I agree. But I think the overwhelming majority of folks here are welcoming and kind. This has to be one of the most active marketplaces on a board out there.
  6. You're absolutely right Sharon, not reading the rules or glossing over things isn't helpful and I'm certainly not referring to those new folks. But I love seeing some folks I've never really seen prolifically post unveil some really nice books. This place has changed over the years of course, but I think there's still a ton of great aspects to it and there's no where else that I can find that has as much wealth of diverse knowledge about comics than here.
  7. I think having new people come onto the boards and sell is generally positive. First, you have some collections that come out that are long term collectors that aren't going to post a lot but do have some amazing books. Second, if you think the prices are too high, above GPA etc., you simply don't buy from them. Same if you don't like a return policy, no back cover scans, grading is off etc. I've stopped selling here because it's simply become a hassle to sell at all -- and much easier to sell directly to dealers or at auction for slabs on the majority of material. While it is fee free it's certainly not work free. After PayPal fees, it's many times easier to simply sell A level material all in one block. For stuff that's not A level, some sells here -- but you can just list everything on eBay as well and often times surprise yourself with how well you do. This platform can be exceptionally successful, but I'm happy to see a new wave of folks running successful sales threads on the boards and think it's overall a very positive thing.
  8. That's true, while he submits exclusively to Voldy, he absolutely has and will sell you CGC slabs. He no longer cracks out CGC (and hasn't for about two years) because he's caught the wave of the fact that to max out value it has to be in a holder on certain types of books.
  9. I certainly prefer CGC to Voldy for a variety of reasons and I generally agree that CGC books sell better than Voldy. With that said, I don't think the disparity is quite as wide as you might imagine. It's also a good thing overall for collectors and consumers for there to be legitimate competition. There are dealers who sell only Voldy slabs and there's no shortage of people clamoring to buy them. If there's a nice book, you evaluate the same as you do any slab, you look at the book. There's no blanket rule for me that I won't buy or sell a Voldy slab. My preference is my experience with CGC, but there are plenty of books in Voldy slabs I have and will continue to pay the same or more than a CGC book. It just depends on the actual book, which I believe is always the case for the educated collector, what's the slogan? Buy the book, not the label.
  10. I love Batman 121 but even if a 9.2 appeared in today's market or even a 9.4, we're talking maybe a $60k maybe a 70k book on a great day. ASM 14 is and remains in every way the superior key. Yes, there's a lot in 9.6 (a big find a number of years back) but the Green Goblin remains one of the most important villains of all time. Mr. Freeze? *yawn*
  11. When you shipped it back did comic connect agree to actually take it back? Or did you ship it just asking for a refund.
  12. At a local show a number of years ago a friend of mine (who's a UPS driver and board member) found an AF 15 -- it was offered by a dealer who was primarily a coin dealer and was selling off his comics. I looked at the book and it looked unrestored and the real deal. He stepped up and paid $4k for it. It came back a 6.0 -- no marvel chipping brilliant colors. An incredible find for a guy who couldn't be nicer and a true collector.
  13. We definitely spoke, you stopped by the booth and looked for a bit. Asian guy, glasses, flip flops. I thought it was you, but then got distracted by someone else, and by that time you were off on the hunt again. I'll do a little more on my thoughts on the con later, but I thought it was pretty good overall as it usually is.
  14. I'll be set up as of Thursday -- primarily I'll have in the booth a 60 mag box or so fresh collection that I co-own with Bob. I'll also have some of my own inventory, and some slabs coming back, but each year the dealers seem to simply devour most of what I bring.
  15. LOL. Maybe, maybe. I actually did not do much tracking, I bought it as a throw in with 2 other NM 98s. I wasn't even going to sub it, but needed to round out an invoice so put it in. It was bought at a local con in Maryland.
  16. Yes, that was my book, graded in 2013 auctioned on the Link. There hasn't been another to my knowledge and it has not resold (that I know of).
  17. Awesome find. I found one of these in a collection I got off of Craig's List a few years back, but it had some restoration (minor color touch) and only graded a 6.0 -- to find one like this unrestored is truly awesome.
  18. People with the best flips are generally not going to post an internet message board (even when you do pay taxes on gains) for a number of practical reasons. On top of that, there's a part of it that seems a bit uncouth to brag about it so publicly. It's fun to share wins with friends when you know they are also winning similarly.
