  1. I also have some Crack comics in the "C" box. The covers were not so great but the Lou Fine stories were terrific and the rest of the art was pretty good at least. bb P.S. The exhibit at the Jewish Museum in NYC had a page by Lou from Crack 17. It was even more impressive as the original art. I copied a few scans (from Goldenagecomics.UK) of the interior art from other issues as examples. Who ever owned the book before me liked to stamp and date his books. Has anyone found these type markings on other books?
  2. Since I was in the "C" box looking for Comic Cavalcade 12 and I mentioned Capt. Midnight before, I thought I would provide a few scans. I also have a nifty decoder badge in case you want to send any secret messages. bb
  3. Darn nice looking giant! Ever notice how on virtually every hand that Baker drew, the two middle fingers are together and the other two fingers are spread out. Ken Fred Astaire also used that technique when he danced. He thought it made his hands look shorter. Disney always chopped one finger off. And I guess he thought that made it easier to draw. Baker used all four fingers when the characters were holding a gun. bb
  4. Congratulations, Bill. I'm impressed that you're finding all these copies in dust jackets. Are the Whitman books novelizations of stories that first appeared as comic strips or are they original stories? Bill, I don't have both copies of Richard Tracy (unfortunately we aren't allowed to type ). Blondie also had a book and and Ginger. I don't know if you showed this copy of Gene. There were four separate stories for Gene and Roy, only three for Red Ryder. My copy of Gasoline Alley's Skeezix came with a Christmas card at no extra charge. I have a few extra copies of both Capt Midnight and the Blue Streak in another box which is probably at the bottom of my closet. bb
  5. I think Baker also did a feature for movie comics. The inking isn't the best but Fiction House seemed to have a lot of cooks in the kitchen. bb
  6. I was noticing that some Fiction House characters changed their costumes fairly often. Gernsback would not have allowed that. An early Camilla costume gave me a chuckly (from Goldenagecomics.uk). bb
  7. That is a terrific cover. Thanks for showing it. I didn't know that Paul was so consistent with his aliens. bb
  8. BZ, The Martians look pretty good. They were featured on the cover of Superworld 1. The landscapes in the story reminds me of some of the art from the back cover of Amazing by Paul. bb P.S. This is an example but not the one I was thinking of.
  9. I checked your links and saw this bio for Blaisdell. He should be the same person since he did both sci fi illos and special effects. bb "From All Movie Guide: Paul Blaisdell's career was the stuff that nightmares were made of, especially for baby-boomer filmgoers. Blaisdell's career in movies lasted barely four years, and seldom involved pictures budgeted even in the six-figure range. If he isn't remotely as well known as, say, Dennis Muren or Jim Danforth, then that's because he never had more than a fraction of their budgets to work with. Blaisdell was born in Newport, RI, in 1927, and attended the New England School of Art and Design. Among his first steady work assignments after graduation was as an illustrator for various science fiction pulp magazines. It was during this period that Blaisdell entered the orbit of Forest J. Ackerman, a science fiction writer who would later become famous as the editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. Ackerman became Blaisdell's agent, and this led to his entry into movies."
  10. Speaking of ants, I like this cover by Paul Blaisdell (B-movie maker?) for the Winston series. If you don't like the dust cover, then the end paper by Schomburg is always a treat. bb
  11. I think I have posted this before on a different thread but I might have posted it on this thread too. Most of my Supersnipes come from a dealer in Michigan. Purchased around 1990 I think. I like the logo. bb
  12. BZ, Please excuse my faulty memory but did you post some Superworld comics? I noticed that issue 3 scans are available on line and I thought they would be worth posting. I like the cover by Paul and it looks like he might have done one of the stories but I haven't checked the GCD. I noticed that Gernsback added a quiz at the end to see what the reader had learned during the reading. That is kind of innovative but it also required the editor to add instructive material to each issue. Do you think Siegel could have added a Superman quiz to the back of Action 1? bb
  13. I enjoyed all the cover scans. The Supersnipe issue was especially intriguing. BZ, I have some more Supersnipes but I forgot to scan Superduck. The character started as a Mighty Mouse type character with strange eyes but later became ordinary with normal vision. This scan is from Jolly Jingles 13 or 12. By the way, was he actually in Hangman 8 as mentioned in Overstreet? I don't think he has a story in my copy. bb
  14. I found a couple more Baker covers on line. Unfortunately they are not romance but I like them. The first several issues of Authentic Police Cases had costumed super heroes but not Baker. Then he started doing covers and finally some stories. I think there are a couple of nice stories in issue 11 but none in 8 although the cover is really nice. bb The color is slightly off on the second cover. I fixed the main character but there is still a weird effect that makes the rest of the front cover seem out of focus don't you think. bb
  15. Many of the Spirit stories are in Police but a lot more are not. The Police comics scans are at Goldenagecomics.UK. bb
  16. I have several issues of the Barker but Goldenagecomics.UK has several new scans of the issues including the one with the Spudo cover. I have several Superman comics to scan but also some Super, Supersnipe, Super-Magician, Super Duck and Supermouse. bb The Superman required a little photoshop but the others just needed cropping and straightening.
  17. I don't have much to contribute to the Siegel and Shuster story but I have a copy of the 1988 Comic Convention Program which honored their creation. bb
  18. I prefer to buy these Winston science fiction books with the Schomburg covers. bb
  19. There are at least 30 of those Whitman books. They are mostly comic related but I have Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple and a few others that are not from the comics. I like to collect these too and I have found a lot in the 10-20 dollar range. Higher grades may go for more. Blue streak with white pages may be much higher. Pages yellow due to paper quality. bb
  20. The Spirit had a few circus stories. Quality comics had two comics with the Barker and his side show friends. I like this issue with Spudo on the cover. He was a very strange sort of superhero. And if you like records, Mad gave them away with the Worst Annuals. bb
  21. There were lots of other great Fiction House covers. Fight was pretty good and Rangers had some gruesome war covers. The Spirit covers were pretty good too and better than the earlier Quality covers.
  22. Story is from Voodoo #1 by Four Star Publications. Scans are from Goldenagecomics.UK.
  23. And this would be under the title of Baker Voodoo Romance.
  24. Here are a few more posts from planet. Another What's It on the cover. Giant robots with the beautiful damsel in distress (a favorite). Baker...
