  1. I think of all the collections board members possess, yours is the one I'm most envious of. it is a lovely set up very nice. Ok, dumb question here, but on the horizontal stacks, do you alternate the issues in terms of spine direction or do the spines all line up in the same direction? I want to lay my mylars flat in a cabinet like that, but worry about spine roll (more space efficient than vertical boxes). Appreciate anyone else's advice here as well.
  2. DITTO!!! (thumbs u You HAVE to post that one when you get it, Sterling! can't wait to see it.
  3. The horror comics anthology I've been raving about. http://www.amazon.com/Mammoth-Book-Best-Horror-Comics/dp/0786720727/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212711940&sr=8-1 loaded with tons of horror reprints/commentary.
  4. Sutton. Example of coverage in the horror anthology. They also have twisted tales 2, some death rattles, and a host of other great classics throughout the life of the horror comics genre, with excellent commentary.
  5. Both these comics were covered with reprints/commentary in the horror anthology...
  6. ditto. Just love when you post gallery views with sweet charltons!
  7. for all of them... but, particularly the Chamber of Chills and Unexpected...
  8. I picked up this awesome B&W compendium at the LCS shop today. Has 500+ B&W pages and commentary on horror reprints covering spans all the way from yellowjacket comics 1 (1944) to 2004. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786720727/ref=s9subs_c2_img1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1MSWYW9P2525N85V4XND&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=278240301&pf_rd_i=507846
  9. Man you are good at spotting details! That's twice now, you've pointed out details I've missed (shiverbone's weird mystery earlier). I agree, that is one of my least beloved of the early adams HOM covers, however, seeing a beautiful copy like that helps me see it in a new light.
  10. hey, what's with this dead thread? Sterling, I've seen you over at those modern boards. Get back here with some beauties for your horror addicts. oh, well. Anyone seen this on ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/x128-CGC-HOUSE-OF-MYSTERY-189-9-8-Neal-Adams-WHITEpgs_W0QQitemZ190224612479QQihZ009QQcategoryZ76QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. Not only is the price insane, that's a crumby looking 9.6 too! (Just noticed it's my 4 year board anniversary, yeesh! ) Happy Anniversary!! Thanks! Yep, 4 years ago I did a search for "CGC Comic Books" and it brought me here. The rest is history... yeah, happy 4th jayman! P.S. I'll take buck's sweet QP HOM any day over that other copy.
  12. Thanks sterling. Here's another cover I came across while rebagging yesterday, that I don't see too often here. It came near the end of the HOS run, and is credited to Vicente Alcazar. I haven't heard much about his work, but I really like this cover for some reason.
  13. Put this under dollar comics and group shots today. If I'm being redundant, let me know. They don't get out of their boxes much.
  14. That is one of my all-time favorite Bronze covers and I have never noticed his expression. I wonder why... I'll second that. Great observation Jayman! For some reason, never really loved that cover and didn't notice the diabolical madman grin on that guy. Combining that with shiverbone's fantastic copy/scan of the cover, and I am a newly minted fan of that cover after seeing it many, many times!
  15. I'm seeing a lot of HG house of secrets beauties coming out of the woodwork on comiclink. Nothing like a recession to bring the beauties to the surface... Although, I often wonder whether it's worth paying top price for an UHG with subpar QP. Case in point, the hos 88s...9.6 @ 375 9.2 @ 200 Now is it just me, or is the 9.2 a much better value? Although I know I am stepping into subjective bounds here, I'm sure long term collectors have formed some opinions on this over the years. What do the UHG cognoscenti think?
  16. I've got that one, but didn't know it was the first baron weirwolf. Thanks. Has a great eiree/creepy looking cover.
  17. thanks sterling, I've been branching out as dc is mostly done (and I"m not as determined to find UHG on all). I'm starting to find some desirability on these second string publishers that deserve a second look. The artwork there reminds me of Gil Kane. But it's tom sutton, who did some work on marvel titles. btw I agree with the weird war comparison for 55, cool cover.
  18. Has anyone gathered some ideas about which charltons are high demand/hard to find? (similar to hom 174, 175, 179, and 205 for example). Sterling, I figure you have some great experience/insight here. thanks, bronze
  19. yeah, i caught that. Small blunting on ULC as well.. Still a gorgeous copy of one of my favorite covers, though.
  20. ABSOLUTELY B E A U T I F U L Looks more like a 9.6. Such sharp edges. Did you get the grader notes?
  21. Reminds me of the movie jeepers creepers.--Nice looking book!! Good Call! Maybe predator tried to land on his planet and he got the upper hand? Amazing how these archetypes submerge throughout history.
  22. Great Covers (as always) sterling. I really like the where monsters dwell stuff. Anyways, I picked up a cool ghost manor cover. And It got me to thinking about how original predator really was. Do they look like cousins or what?
