  1. This artwork is a rejected cover proposal by Alex Toth intended for WITCHING HOUR #1. It was ultimately used as the back cover for AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS #6. Good enough. Although this is the rejected cover used on the back of amazing world of dc comics. The quiz photo was one of the other two rejected proposals submitted by Toth. I hand colored it and assembled a faux mock up, to get an idea of what it would look like.
  2. I was out all night, but I had thought about bangzoom's idea also. You can't stop a comic guru from hitting all the bases to get an answer. Well, I posted this on another thread and didn't quite get the exact answer. Anyone know the origin of this cover? (including the artist) Requires some detective work, but it's out there.
  3. the comic is donald duck 81 / Dell. Is that gyro gearloose with no hat? no, waita minute, his glasses should hang off his beak. so, no ... hmm.. man, selegue, you sure come up with some tough quesitons.
  4. I know it isn't a trivia thread, but does anyone have any idea on its history? Artist maybe? RRP Variant Here's some interior art.
  5. I know it isn't a trivia thread, but does anyone have any idea on its history? Artist maybe?
  6. Great question and great job answering bz. I've never even heard of squeeks prior to this.
  7. I thought I wouldn't have to check back for a few hours.. I gotta start asking these other comic mavens for tough ones. I'm running out.
  8. Since we are on the deep trivia quest, what 13 yr old kid from Pittsburgh submitted a full -script (art/story) to dc and was added to their ranks. Oh, and many years later he worked for marvel (I think that eliminates doubles).
  9. I dug deep on the internet somewhere. May have even been your 1st scan I saw. There's another chapter 3 scan showing all the schwabs running on deck and a letter to bill above. I wasn't sure if they were writing the letter to bill the reader of the comic, or bill the protagonist/character. So I guessed bill because he was a friend of simon's in the coast guard as well as the name the letter was addressed to! Ken was another friend that was added to simon and kirby's ranks.
  10. http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=16112&Lot_No=16003&src=pr funny, they only list it as milt gross here. Wonder why they forgot to put simon. He seems more significant to me. Cover had to be simon. Thank you for teaching me some great trivia. I'm going to remember this one. one more guess for the names: bill and ken (there's a henry warner in there somewhere).
  11. Great Question. I've never heard of that title? Do you have a cover or a pointer to it? I figured since there were tales of cole and simba as friends at farr military academy, in blue bolt created by joe simon, it was the answer. Both he and kirby worked on the early blue bolts.
  12. washington, 1776, I did. And I was being too greedy by just looking at the cover and guessing.
  13. actually, that fragment looks a lot like a steranko. My first thought was shield.
  14. Which former editor from wheeler-nicholson, hired bill everett on board as an artist and art director in his new venture? What was the name of his venture?
  15. Looks a lot like hercules 5 (charlton), although the text would have to be skewed. hmmm.... meets your other criteria.
  16. There were a ton of folks after this puppy. One of the greatest arcs of the bronze age. (borrowed from gcd as I didn't have time to dig out my copy).
  17. sorry for the delay. What is this object, and name at least 10 individuals that wanted it.
  18. One for me! Mister 103/4 Jack Yeah, I didn't find him on our site (must not be using the search engine properly), and thought I could slip this question past you. No such luck. Take it away selegue. I didn't need a search engine for that one. Who was the principal that expelled Clark Kent from Smallville High School? (I hope there's only one answer.) Jack James Foster
  19. I knew that was a kirby! Those characters are a cross between Scarlett witch and Apache Cheif. I kept thinking of early avengers.
