So that book is coming back a 5.5  ....seems pretty harsh.......in fact it seems kind of crazy.......I'm not very experienced in this ( Fight City Hall ) thing but it sure looks like you have a case. Others can help you with your plan of attack.

p.s. If I was you I might be going out of my mind over this. It's such a great book and it seems you've been wronged ...How frustrating.

I know! And this was supposedly graded AFTER a press! Lol

The book looks like it has a slight spine roll ...doesn't it ?  Did it lie flat the last time you had it out ?

Perhaps a slight one, I don't remember for sure. Nothing major if there was one. I wish I had taken more pictures, I just snapped this photo right before packaging it up almost as a last-minute afterthought.

The grader notes only mention "heavy bends to cover" and "moderate spine stress lines".

  3. Hello. Last November I sent in 8 modern books for cleaning/pressing and grading. They were "received" for clean & press forever then a few days ago went (it seemed) immediately to "grading/imaging". So maybe they didn't do the clean & press? I haven't been charged yet for any of it, which is odd. Well anyway, the comics are shipped and a comic that I thought would get a minimum of maybe 7.5 or 8 showed up as a 5.5! Graders notes say "heavy bends to cover". This is the only photo I have of it before I sent it off and I'll post photos of the slab when I get it. Do you think this book was close to a 5.5?

Have you tried gently peeling the sticker off? If it was mine I'd get my finger nail and very carefully try to lift the top corner in the white space. If it started to come off without removing colour/gloss then I'd continue. A sticker is like having tape on your book. I think if you submitted it with the sticker on it could take it down to like a VG.

Managed to get the sticker off!

    Yes, it's real.

McFarlane signed these for the comic book shop he owned in the early 1990's. He signed them on Spidey's knee, and the back cover has a red "spidey" stamp to mark them as authentic. The sig on these older books is way messier than his current big/bold/legible signature, but they're real.

There's more information about them here: http://thetoybox1138.blogspot.com/2021/03/the-spiders-web.html

Wow, that's really interesting! I just checked and, yes indeed, there's the web stamp on the back. Glad to know that it's a cool comics side story instead of just a "sloppy" signature!

  6. Hello. I bought a group of comics and with the group was this green label Spider-Man 1. I'm personally fine with green labels for signed comics, as I'm getting several of my personal signed collection graded and it would fit right in. Problem is, this is a pretty dang ugly signature.

Think this was signed in a rush by Todd? Thanks in advance for the help!

  7. Hello. I recently picked this up and planned on sending it to CGC. Curious what you all thought the grade might be with that big chunk missing from the top corner and the other tears. I usually just send all of my books to be cleaned and pressed so I don't get a whole separate invoice and shipping charge, but do you all think it will improve this grade at all? Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!
