  1. 1st appearance comics are some of the most expensive & prized books in the hobby. But some suggest they are just the comic version of sport rookie cards. What's your take on this? Also post the cover of a 1st appearance book in your PC if you like My recent thoughts on this might sound like I'm on substances Rookie cards are basically a photo of a real world sports person. A comic 1st appearance is the beginning, or birth of the character as an entity who exists in the pages of the book. So to me comic 1st appearances are more significant. Thoughts? Here's my most recent 1st appearance key pick up - New Mutants Annual 2. Strictly speaking Psylocke (X-men) and Meggan (original Excalibur team member) 1st appeared in UK comics but this is their 1st US appearance.
  2. That actress didn't get the role unfortunately. Recently watched the action thriller series 'Who is Erin Carter' on Netflix & the lead actress Evin Ahmad pictured would be an amazing Elektra! She fits the original Frank Miller look and attitude of the character perfectly.
  3. This is one of only 2 runs of modern (post 1991) worthless drek in my collection. During the late 90s when the trusted titles from my childhood like X-men were terrible to read I randomly gave Crimson a go and it was awesome. This vampire book combined amazing Ramos (Spiderman) art and an interesting, ultra violent, action packed story. Maybe someone will make a TV show out of it one day and it won't be worthless anymore
  4. There's keys that are still expensive or even rising. But a Batman key I gave up on during the boom I've just circled back to it on eBay & it's selling for almost a third of that price now. Will probably pull the trigger in an auction
  5. Adam Hughes art is awesome on multiple levels Another example of worthless dreck I love in my PC is his complete run on Justice League
  6. Wow! That's seriously one of the coolest bonus extras ever with a comic. I hadn't heard of it. Thanks for sharing
  7. We all, generally speaking, like having keys and books with value in our collections. But many of us also have comics taking up space in our boxes which wouldn't look out of place in a bargain bin They might be comics you enjoyed reading and feel nostalgic about. What are the favourite near worthless books in your collection? Show us their covers. Here's one of mine. Excalibur had gorgeous art by Alan Davis and Chris Claremont's writing was at it's most fun, focused on the adventures of a team of likeable characters. I loved this series for the 1st 12 issues as a kid. It's been described by more than 1 comic book influencer as a series without keys. (Strictly speaking there are a couple of issues with slight value say $5. But virtually the entire series across all volumes can be found in dollar bins.) I've collected a few of the 1st appearances of the characters in the team including Lockheed, Rachel, Kitty (this is not cheap), Meghan in US comics etc which occur in other series. May never get Nightcrawler
  8. Here's a cool cover which Frank created for the Wolverine mini series trade paper back. Popularising ninjas in comics is another of his achievements in the medium
  9. Miller's graphic novel Elektra Lives Again blew me away when I was a kid. It's the last time he fully unleashed his talent & effort as an artist, while still at the height of his powers. I love Sin City and his other works, but I feel he's favoured a more minimalist approach ever since.
  10. Nice! Frank Miller's signature is one I would like to have. I loved Ronin too. My single issues of the mini-series went missing somewhere along the way, perhaps borrowed by a friend, but I have the trade paperback collection of it.
  11. Daredevil 227, the 1st issue of Miller's amazing Born Again story arc which was also his acclaimed return to the title which made him a star. Eventually Disney will be adapting it to a TV mini-series Below is the 1st issue of the Give Me Liberty mini-series Miller wrote which is the 1st appearance of Martha Washington. I was curious about it as a kid, but didn't buy it back then. I wonder if it will be adapted to the screen one day as it has a diverse lead character? There were a couple of Martha Washington mini-series which followed this. UPDATE: Just read it. Have to say I found the narrative a bit disjointed and it wasn't particularly engaging. Definitely minor Miller Maybe the series improves later on, but I probably won't be buying subsequent issues.
  12. I know Frank Miller's politics & the decline in the quality of his writing & art in the new millennia has sullied his legacy for some. But during the cooper age in particular he produced awesome, ground breaking work. His Daredevil run is one of the reasons I fell in love with comics. I assumed there would already be an appreciation thread for such a a legendary creator but I couldn't find one through the CGC site search. I purchased a Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 1st print for a bargain price (albeit in mid grade condition) on the weekend which is what prompted me to seek out such a thread. Let's celebrate the work from Frank Millers glory days. Here's a couple of covers from my PC. One of my most treasured books below. 1st appearance of Elektra.
  13. Of all things it appears Spawn #1 (1992) is experiencing a little price climb. I went to a comic market on the weekend and dealers were pricing it at $150 (AUD) for raw standard copies. (I actually questioned this which lead to a fairly awkward conversation). I went away & checked eBay sold listings & it does appear it's consistently selling for higher than the $30 USD high value on Key collector. Around $50 USD from what I can see. So if you've got a pile of them in your inventory, which I know people on these boards would, you might want to pull them out and get busy
  14. I'm a big McFarlane fan as shown by my previous posts in this thread. I have all his big keys, & all but one of the mid-range ones. The one being Amazing Spiderman 315. So why am I missing that one? I honestly don't like the cover and can't bring myself to pay for it. What do you think of it & what would be your choice for worst McFarlane cover?
  15. Yes! Compared to NFTs & most crypto currencies it is a good investment Check out what a smaller set is selling for on eBay
