  1. Spicy or Pricey ? GOD BLESS... Sadly, both although I do most definitely like his visual definition of "spicy" here.
  2. Why waste the time? Well, it's nice to see that we are in total agreement here, as it's definitely much more enjoyable to get back to the funny books and the good times that come along with them.
  3. Most definitely and it's clear that all of you have excellent taste as it's pretty tough to beat the beautiful covers on these early Science books. Wasn't lucky enough to pick up a copy of this Science 3, but was fortunate enough to pick up a nicely presently restored copy of Science 1 before even the prices on restored copies started to take off.
  4. Seriously. My doctor keeps telling me I'll feel better and live longer if I get rid of it. That's exactly why he wants to trade it ALL IN for a mere copy of Cap 1, because it'll be so much easier to handle and take care of.
  5. Considering how much more common the unrestored Bat 1 is along with the significantly worse PQ, I would personally tend to lean more towards the Restored copy of the much rarer 'Tec 27 even in extensive Restored condition. Especially considering the fact that there is already 56 Universal copies of Bat 1 in higher graded condition than this CGC 3.0 copy, while there is only a total of 22 copies, whether Universal or Restored in higher graded condition than this restored CGC 7.0 copy with White Pages. In adddition, besides the far superior PQ, this A-rated (i.e. Excellent) restored WP copy of 'Tec 27 just simply presents so nicely relative to its assigned CGC 7.0 grade.
  6. Yeah, Spokane. I'll try to get a scan up. Looks like the both of you were pretty astute and made the right play by "manning up" on a real toughie of a book to find in grade. According to the CGCdata.com database, it looks like your Spokane copy was one of the early certified books as it was graded prior to July 1 of 2001, while jimbo's CGC 8.0 graded copy was graded in the latter half of 2008: http://www.cgcdata.com/cgc/search/comicid/6914/6mo No other copy yet to be certified either at or above both of these condition grade levels in all of the long intervening years since then.
  7. Ditto as I've also absolutely love the colors on both this issue of Funny Pages and also the preceeding issue of Funny Pages 40. Both very very tough issues to find with FP 40 having an even lower census count and unfortunately for me, both got well beyond my budget long before I was ever able to track any down.
  8. You mean like Perry Mason, as I believe we could all use a guy like him to have our backs.
  9. It's all really a case of to each their own, as I know of quite a few long time well respected collectors that have made very valid arguments for your exact point here.
  10. Pretty much everybody needs a billion or a hundred billion dollars and would find that hard to turn down.
  11. Hey Gary; Love to hear these background stories on the pedigrees like your Windy City pedigree here. Big congrats to you on being able to acquire such an absolutely amazing find. Was the Windy City collection made up entirely of only #1 first issues as I find it rather surprising that there were as many as 2,500 individual GA comic book titles out there. If so, I guess it must have covered virtually enery single title out there at the time. Was you able to compile a list of the individual books that were in the collection and their possible grades at the time from your own professional point of view, or did most of them sold so quickly you never got a chance to do it?
  12. How double dare you come onto these very boards here and discuss or opine about a Signature copy of Hulk 181 on a thread about the Pay Copy of Marvel 1, as only yours truly could do something that silly.
  13. Have you ever spoken to a professional about your seemingly ongoing need to make your usual signature condescending posts to attack boardies who write posts that might run counter to your views on the comic book marketplace or hobby? It certainly makes me wonder why you need to show us your seeming superiority and your need to have the last word on every issue all the time, instead of trying to be more inclusive. Although I've been warned in PM's by other boardies about your rather infamous behavior here, it's really kind of sad to see some of them leave the boards as a result of this since some of them were really good board members with a lot of knowledge and love for this hobby of ours. Especially since (well at least from my point of view ) you are clearly a dedicated long time comic book collector and successful dealer with an absolutely amazingly fantastic personal collection that would be the envy of any collector, that it would seem to be beneath you to try to be the resident internet bully on these boards here. No doubt you'll get more good laughs at my post here as you do with every single one of them and you'll launch your usual condescending or snarky retorts in response. But that's okay and I don't have a real problem with it, as you do you.
  14. Ditto, but what would surprise me even more would be if some of these Promise resellers were actually brave enough to play the CPR game or to send them back in for a straight regrade in hopes of getting an upgrade on these Promise Collection books here. Especially since it seems to be part of the norm with the whole certified comic book marketplace nowadays, but probably not so much with these books here. Yes, I imagine only time will tell and I wonder how many, if any at all, we will see encased in higher graded slabs.
  15. Whoever is good with the Search function for these boards here should try to look up the thread for these Rally Road books when the initial batch of books were sold as there was a pretty good discussion on it at the time. If I remember correctly, there was virtually no profit for them at all once you factor in the legal and paperwork costs it must involve because the difference between what they had to pay for the books and the total of what they sold the fractional shares at was only a couple of thousand dollars, if that. I believe the profit was based upon the theiry that the book would go up in value because I think they retain the controlling interest in the total number of shares outstanding. As such, they can decide if and when a particular book is to be sold outright with the subsequent funds to be distributed to all of the shareholders. In addition, the interim trading of shares for a book was not that liquid like the stock market as there were only certain time periods that it would be available for trading. Can't remember how the value for the book was to be determined for these interim trading time periods. Any purchaser thinking of buying some shares in these books would definitely need to conduct their due diligence as I remember there was a signed legal prospectus for each one of these books which basically covered most if not all of the questions which boardies appear to be asking here. The best way to shed light on this issue here is to dig up that old thread as somebody here posted the legal prospectus for a few of the books here.
  16. It would appear that the common denominator in all of these transactions listed here might possibly be Metro/CC since I noticed the QES sticker on the slab when it was auctioned off by Goldin which it did not have when it was initially sold by them back in 2016. Makes me wonder if they've had a few runs on this same book already and if they are indirectly involved in this latest Rally Road initiative to market the book. Especially since I remember when I read through the legal documents posted on the boards here for the CGC 9.8 graded copy TMNT 1 and a couple of the other earlier books that Rally Road sold fractional shares for the other year, it was actually Vinnie's name at the bottom of the document as the seller of the books to Rally Road.
  17. By the time it's all going to be said and done in a few short weeks from now, it's going to be pretty obvious that Jay Parrino had the right idea even though he had over paid for the book at the time, but just not the patience to play the long game. Espeically since time tends to take care of your purchasing mistakes when it comes to the vintage collectibles comic book marketplace.
  18. Since the entire gist of the conversation of these two posts was about the differences in how CGC handles writing on a cover, I guess the only one boardie you must be referring to is YOU yourself.
  19. Nothing at all historic about the shopping list scrawled on this book here, but any bets that if CGC had not been paid to have one of their employees witness the desecration of this book here, it would not have received even a CGC 4.5 grade, let alone a CGC 8.5 grade:
  20. Based upon the few books which I have won from the CC Auctions, I would tend to agree with this comment as I have been pleasantly surprised with the colors on some of the actual books, as opposed to their scanned images. With the ones which I have won from Heritage, no real unexpected pleasant surprises with the colors, and in fact, a few of the actual books coming in darker than their scanned images.
  21. By ungraded, do you mean that they were not certified and graded by CGC, but rather simply a raw book graded by Heritage staff which is actually quite common for some of their lesser books or many of the books which they have in their Sunday/Monday weekly auctions? There shouldn't be an issue with this as long as the certified grades by CGC or the raw grades by the Heritage staff have hopefully taken the water stains into account when they came up with the final grade for the books.
  22. Nah...........double guide for rarer obscure GA books that don't tend to show up on a regular basis, even though they are raw is still a lot lower multiple than what they would most probably sell for on the major comic book auction sites. Congrats on your pickup here. Is it because they expect a bigger and better selection of books for next week or because they expect prices to be more reasonable?
  23. Hey Allan; Any GA nuggets down at the con for reasonable prices or if there are any, are they asking like this is Crazy Town and not the real world?
  24. Ahhhhhh.............................jimbo, have you ever given any thought to speaking to someone professional about your rather shall we say predilection and one track mind when it comes to your interpretation of certain words and how you piece them together in your mind?
