  1. Totally agree with you as Vinnie should have simply asked to borrow your scan instead of the less than pleasing picture which they took.
  2. Well, since this IS supposed to be the CC Next Event Auction thread here, I guess we should really be talking about something besides the Promise Collection set of books. No doubt Vinnie and the CC auction consignors are hoping that the Promise Collection crazed FOMO driven mania continues to roll on when it comes to their books hitting the 3-minute buzzer, similar to how the Heritage rocket ship seemingly blasted off during the live portion of their auction. As such and in the same vein, any guesses as to whether this book here is going to take off like the PL 17 and 'Tec 140 and be able to vault itself into the million dollar club, and if so, will it even be able to surpass the $1.125M that the 'Tec 27 just got: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/919592
  3. I know there’s a Cap 1 3.5 still coming. Well, from Ed's big video hype which apparently was done well enough to snagged a couple of whales on his line, wasn't there a HG copy of Human Torch 23? Of course, that's probably really more of filler than the actual tasty cream at the top. Besides the low grade grade Cap 1 which Lon had mentioned from the get go, the only other book which he showed that has still not come into play yet is this little absolute L.B. Cole all-time classic spider cover beauty here: Looks like it will most likely be in there with the rest of this group of later Suspense run, as the earlier issues were apparently not in the collection. I imagine this little run here will certainly be one of the highlights of which ever auction they decide to run them in, although I am sure it would have been even more spectacular if issues 1, 3, & 4 were in there: Not sure if it's going to hit Mask 1 6-figures like numbers here, but similar to the Mask 1, the Promise Collection copy of Suspense 8 is the absolute highest graded copy by a long shot at CGC 9.2 as compared to the Mask 1 at only CGC 8.5. And a true highest graded copy with even no restored copies above CGC 7.5, whereas the Mask 1 has 2 Slightly Restored copies in CGC 9.6 already. The Mask Comics have certainly been lighting up the auction floor recently with copies up for sale in almost every single outing, which has certainly helped it to rocket up in valuation. No such similar reinforcing catalyst to drive up the valuation for Suspense 8, as they have had only something like 3 slab sales over the past 2 years, all in low to mid-grade, but all at big multiples to condition guide. So, I imagine the Suspense 8 is a much rarer L.B. Cole unicorn than Mask 1 at this current point in time, and certainly so in grade, and will definitely be interesting to watch as only time will tell how this gorgeous Promise Collection copy will do in the end.
  4. @Timely; Now that we have some actual auction results here, shall we play this same game again, except with the PL 17 instead of the 'Tec 140: As we all know by now, the Promise Collection copy of PL 17 has sold at the rather surprising and staggering price point of $456K. So, do you still hold onto your argument that the owner of the now former highest graded CGC 9.4 copy of PL 17 which they brought in a CC Event Auction back in 2019 is now crying into their pillow because their copy is no longer the highest graded, and as a direct result of losing this status, their CGC 9.4 graded copy would now be worth less than the $121K that they had paid for it? Or do you think the owner of the former highest graded 9.4 copy views the Promise sale price point of $456K as a rising tide lifting all boats and their now second highest graded copy might have actually gone up in value and even worth more today (possibly a lot more ) then the $121K wich they had paid for it when the book was the highest graded copy at the time?
  5. Only if he can find a bigger sucker than the one who paid $33,600 for it and now wants to resell it right away.
  6. As per a post which I had made yesterday, I am definitely in full agreement with you on the AA 61, and so are some other boardies here from the response which I got back on the other Heritage Auction thread: After the last 2 days, my thinking now is that the CGC 9.5 graded Promise copy of AA 61 would have possibly gone for somewhere in the $175K to $225K price range if the lot have hit the auction block after some of the other big books, and definitely for sure or possibly even slightly more if the Church CGC 9.8 graded copy was not there.
  7. I guess you must have missed my post from way way back somewhere around page 50 of this thread here, as your question is pretty much irrelevant here:
  8. I meant dealer/collectors because some big time dealers are also collectors with their own "whale" books. Most definitely not a "dealer" who would be putting these big dollar Promise books into their inventory for sale, but a dealer collector who would be locking these unicorns up into their own personal collection for years or possibly even decades.
  9. Being the big time customer/consignor that you are, I hope that they didn't put their FedEx account charges back onto your invoice? From what I heard, CC also provides the exact same complimentary service for their out of country consignors using their FedEx account which makes the entire shipping and Customs declaration process pretty much seamless for their consignors.
  10. I guess the boys at Heritage are not aware of your magic touch and did not know that you could single handily pulled the entire Ducks market out of the deep freeze where it had seemingly been for the past decade. And if I remember correctly, wasn't this right after you had sold off your first big batch of Duck books right at the top of the Ducks market back then, and now you've returned to set brand new all-time highs on a couple Ducks books which you must have held back.
  11. Jim has always been a comics collector. I meant even more so than before.
  12. Are you saying that James Halperin is now expanding even further out from his first love (i.e. coins & stamps) and now moving even more into vintage comic books and comic art?
  13. Besides the FC 9, I was actually referring more to the FC 178 which sold for a rather Silver Surfer 4-like $90K. So, they were willing to take the MM 3 and the FC 9, but not the FC 178 which actually ended up being the surprising bigger dog out of these 3 books? Definitely nice to score the cover of an auction catalog, as it really helps to raise the profile of your book to the deep pocketed bidders. Big congrats to you again on all of your record setting sales here and I guess this means it's going to be time for you to pick up some more Hermes bags for your better half.
  14. Didn't Mitch say way back in the beginning of this thread here that some of the big time dealers were planning to go hard after some of these books and were already in the process of putting big time dollars aside to scoop up a whole bunch of these Promise Collection books here? Then again, if he was basing this comment on his original estimate for this first batch of Promise books which was definitely far down the ladder, I am not sure if the dealers collectors would have been willing to go this high on these books for their own personal collection.
  15. Big Big congrats on all of your sales as you most definitely can't complain too much with those Church copies of Mystery Men. Although it looks like you might have gotten only a bunt hit with the MM 3, it would appear to be a double for your Church copies of MM 14 and MM 16, along with a triple bagger for your Church copy of MM 19. No idea if that Ducks book is yours or not, but if it is, then I would consider that to be a grand slam in the ballpark home run which nobody in their right mind would ever expect to see. It definitely looks like you made the right call here. The only thing I found surprising is that I had assumed that your Berk Church copy of Mystery Men 3 would have been one of the Feature books in their Platinum session on Thursday since that is where virtually all of the big books go. Like Brian said during the auction, I guess the Mystery Men 3 managed to score a nice Heritage catalogue cover shot this way with its move to the Friday session though. No idea if it would have done better on Thursday, but $78K is still a pretty big number, although on a relative basis, clearly not in loonie bin common as dirt Transformers 1 territory.
  16. Yeah, I guess they've decided to play it safe and not go with either PGX or the boys across the street in fear of the tighter and lower grades they might get on these books here.
  17. So happy to see that you've finally decided to joined everybody at the CGC juice bar and now buying the label, instead of buying the book.
  18. Even if it's being finalized, it definitely doesn't mean we are going to be seeing the Pedigree book anytime soon. Take a look at the Chinatown pedigree which received official pedigree status back in 2020, but I remember reviewing Ritter's draft writeup on it way back in 2007. I think you are probably pretty much bang on here with your assessment. Just take a look at some of the books in this auction here and I highly doubt that it's just a coincidence that it's the most in-demand books in a title that's been included in this opening auction here. Perfect examples, being Cap 46, 74, Joker covers on the Detective's, Blue Beetle 54, AA 61, Contact 12, etc. No doubt they have left some quality books to headline their upcoming auctions and this is most probably why the Suspense run (including the highest graded copy of Suspense 8 by a long shot) was not included even though these books had already been graded and slabbed. Although there will be a ton of second and even third tier books here, I doubt many of the will be in lower grades as Ed Jaster stated in his video that he expects 3/4 of the Promise Collection to contain the highest graded copies. Probably because some of the second and third toers might not be worth slabbing based upon their dollar value with Ed stating that there's no point to slab a book that might sell for a couple hundred dollars when it would sell for that in raw condition anyways. After the results of this auction so far though, he just might have a change of heart on this.
  19. Ummm................your big mistake here is that you are only supposed to be looking at that big big number on the top left hand corner of the slab and pay no attention at all to the actual book itself, especially when it comes to the staples, spines, corners, and edges of the Promise books.
  20. Although definite congrats to @tth2 here on his Mystery Men 3, I believe he did rather surprisingly even a whole ton better on another book in the auction here.
  21. Cry me a -ing river! Yes, I would guess so since you live in the most unaffordable city in the world by a long shot while I am stuck living in only the #2 most unaffordable city in the world.
  22. Small house in the midwest Sadly, that wouldn't even cover the cost of the incremental amount that you would have to go over the asking price if you want to purchase a house here.
  23. Speaking about chews on comic books, any bets they won't have much of an impact on the prices of the Promise books this Saturday.
  24. It went for $5K more than the blue 5.0 fetched just one year ago! Greedy, aren't we? Well, I thought that blue CGC 5.0 graded copy you are alluding to was also a weak sale when it sold for only $23,400 back in July of 2020, especially considering that a PLOD CGC 5.5 restored copy sold for $24K back in November of 2019. This was after a PLOD CGC 6.0 restored copy sold for $21,600 back in November of 2018 and also just before a PLOD CGC restored copy sold for $18K back in March of 2020. With these kinds of numbers, it looks like the PLOD sales performed relatively better than their Universal unrestored counterparts.
  25. Yes, is that why Cap's so upset on the cover, similar to how Batman would be totally perturbed if the Joker was salivating over Robin's crotch?
