  1. That's probably because some of the deep pocketed noobs and newbies to this comic book marketplace of ours who bought into the story and hype and were placing such high bids on the Promise books didn't realize there could actually be quality comic books that existed beyond the Promise Collection that might actually also be worth bidding on.
  2. Yes, certainly the complete opposite of when it first came out in those early years and people constantly referred to it as the Overprice Guide.
  3. Ummmm.....................probably bidders who know only enough to look at the big big number in the top left hand corner of the slab, but not enough to look at the actual book itself and understand the complex intricacies of defects such as corner chips, cover edge tears, spine ticks, etc.
  4. Would that be the Subby 13 that sold for a rather astounding $50K+, as already noted above in a previous post of mines?
  5. Still nowhere close to the long awaited and much deserved $50,400 for the absolutely gorgeous Subby 13, as per my post in the other thread:
  6. Yeah, the $250K to $300K mark would definitely have been a bit of a stretch, as I feel that the $150K to $200K price range is much more realistic for the AA 61 given the results for some of the other later non-classic cover Promise Collection books that we have seen.
  7. Unless you are a long term collector who's been holding some of these books for years, if not decades, and then you might feel "paper rich" for a few short hours until reality sets in again.
  8. Not from my own personal POV as per a post I had made in the other thread since I thought bidders did not yet have a chance to "feel out" the auction at such an early stage, along with another boardie's response:
  9. Is this a record setting price for this copy of Donald Duck as I guess they must be getting back in vogue after being in the cooler for a long time: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/cartoon-character/four-color-178-donald-duck-rockford-pedigree-dell-1947-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7244-94042.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 Sold for a rather astounding $90K and big congrats to the consignor of this book here who I believe is one of our very own here.
  10. Kind of sad to see the once in-demand Cap 3 Red Skull classic cover books was unable to get even a single additional bid in the live auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/captain-america-comics-3-timely-1941-cgc-vg-40-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7244-94027.s Looks like this nicely presenting relative to its assigned CGC 4.0 graded Universal copy finished up at only $27,600 or just a bit more than where restored mid-grade copies were selling for only a few short years ago.
  11. Hope you kept your receipts for all of your Depends so that you can return them for a cash refund next week then.
  12. Well, they just finished the Subby run and looks like this classic bondage/snake cover issue here outperformed all of the other issues by a wide margin at just over $50K, and from my own personal point of view, long time coming and much deserved since most of the focus has tended to been on Subby 11: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/sub-mariner-comics-13-the-promise-collection-pedigree-timely-1944-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7244-93153.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115
  13. Yes indeed, ask them to change the label to a PL 17 for you.
  14. Well, my bad then although I clearly do like his choice with respect to what must be one of the all-time classic lingerie cover out there. I remember Mark Wilson offering me a HG copy of PL 16 way back in the day for around $800 and I just couldn't bring myself to say YES knowing his reputation by then, even though he had assured me over and over again that he had done absolutely nothing at all to this particular book.
  15. Wasn't that simply because Brian said that was his favorite PL cover even though others tend to prefer PL 17? I will definitely say that Brian seems to be a lot more enthusiastic and seems to be more creative and patient at pulling in higher bids for the books.
  16. Yes, totally surprised at what some of these mid-run non classic cover Cap and Joker 'Tec books managed to run up to. Makes me wonder if the AA 61 with the all-time classic Solomon Grundy cover would have gone higher than its final $138K price point since it was only the second lot in the auction and most likely before bidders knew how much they would have to up their game in order to win some of these Promise Collection books later on? Looking at some of these results so far, from my own personal POV, I would say the winner of the AA 61 got themselves a relative steal in comparison.
  17. Have we passed your original estimate of $700K already or even your revised updated estimate of $1.X million yet? All in good fun and even better for long term collectors like you who must be seeing massive increases in "paper profits" with their collections.
  18. Walk-through for a book this valuable. Depends on how long a snail takes to "walk through" the entire CGC facilitities.
  19. Have you already used up your first set of Depends on just the first Promise Collection book? If so, I hope you brought a flatbed load of them then in order to meet your needs.
  20. Oh come on now.........you know this is not a fair bet and a guaranteed winner for you considering CGC's dead stop turnaround times.
  21. I think that's also been pretty much the same scenario with high dollar value GA books. Just take a look at how some of the classic GA books like Action 13, 'Tec 31, Flash 86, etc. has done in low or mid grade in comparison percentage wise to the higher graded copies and it's pretty much no contest. Like any news reports or flash though, they always like to focus on just the big number without looking at the actual underlying details.
  22. Well, if you go back to check that thread on the big big $48K sale back in 2016, I bet all of the noobs on the boards at the time (present company excluded of course ) were all saying the exact same thing.
  23. Ummm.................................I believe you might have been reasing too fast and missed this part of his post here:
  24. Or maybe you just misread my post before getting a bit unhinged there? Anyway, what they said. Relative scarcity could explain the result, since the difference in 9.8 availability is sooooo extreme. That's all. And BTW, it's only 4 MS5s in 9.8. I believe you cannot accurately equate relative scarcity between 2 different books in terms of the determination of their values unless the relative demand for both of them are the same, which is clearly NOT the case with Ghost Rider and the New X-Men. Otherwise, my raw and supposedly rare HG copy of New Comics 2 from 1936 with the first appearance of The Federal Men by the creative team of Siegel and Shuster who would go on to much greater fame later on should be worth absolute millions then. Especially since there are only 5 unrestored graded copies in total with all 5 of these ranging in grade from CGC 0.5 to CGC 2.0 only, while MS 5 has 3,553 graded copies to date and counting across almost the entire condition spectrum, which makes their difference in graded availability soooooon very extreme.
  25. Hey Mitch; No mention of the stunning record setting prices for the BA books in your post here, so I guess you are still holding onto all of your copies even in this FOMO driven crazed marketplace for these almost common as dirt books for now? Being a much longer term TCBC as compared to a late comer like me , I imagine you must have cherry picked all of these books like MS 5, GSXM 1, XM 94, IH 181, ASM 129, TOD 10, etc. right off the shelves of the LCS at a big discount to the cover price and have them all safely stashed away in mylar for all these long decades.
