  1. You know what’s crazier you could have bought one last week on collector comics in cgc 9.8 for around 8K Canadian . I don’t know what to make of this. Are people that dumb to over pay by thousands Well, have you thought about who the dumb people would be if TMNT 1 3rd prints are selling for $20K or more in a few months from now? Especially when you can never say never in these FOMO driven crazy times, considering that CGC 9.6 graded copies of TMNT 1 were selling for the teens back in 2019, and then rising to $66K by the beginning of April before soaring further to $88K a couple weeks after that. Then again, maybe all of these crypto like buyers will toss these readily available books with multiple copies showing up in every auction and decide to chase after some of those once in a lifetime generational books from the Promise Collection that will be coming to market at the end of this month.
  2. Don't know much about the actual mechanics of pressing and their possible impact on books, but what the heck is going on with the spine, and in particular, the top portion of the spine in this copy of Catman 30? This spine look seems to be apparent on several of the books from this collection and was wondering if this could be a pressing defect from a bad pressing job or just simply bad storage of the book over an extended period of time?
  3. I assume the seller would be none too pleased with this result as the listing description states that the current market value for this book (in this grade, I would assume) is $5,500 to $6,000. Then again, maybe his current FMV was artifically set on the high side in order to encourage higher bids from prosective bidders.
  4. Then again, if you were into the highest graded copies of the key BA and CA key marketplace during the past few months, you would think that "a lifetime" actually equates to only "1 month".
  5. Yes, I can certainly see both the Cap 46 and the Cap 74 hitting those lofty figues considering the graded condition for both of those copies there. Not so sure about the All-Select 1 being able to crack the $100K barrier though, especially since if I remember correctly it is only a CGC 8.0 graded copy with another 9 copies graded higher than that. It would certainly portend well for the other HG copies if it was able to achieve this.
  6. I always look at any grade closely and make my own opinion, but these books are gonna have special value above normal non-special collection books and that should make up the difference in any over/under grading. Since grading is still really nothing more than just a subjective opinion at a particular point in time, as opposed to an exact science, it is only normal that we should expect to see some overgraded books along with some undergraded books. From an equal opportunity point of view, since this thread has highlighted some of the seemingly overgraded books from this collection, it is only fair that we should also be pointing out some of the seemingly undergraded books from this collection. Not only common sense and past history, but the simple law of averages says that we should be seeing quite a few undergraded books by now and it would certainly be nice to also see some of these highlighted on this thread here.
  7. That's freaking amazing , But as many of us stated in hindsight unless it was Jon's wishes otherwise, probably should have been spread out among to at least two auction As Jon had stated during not only the runup to the auction of his books, but also many times in the years prior to that, he was only a caretaker for the books within his collection and that he would be passing them onto the next generation of collectors to look after and care for the books. With Jon's absolute love for the books, their history, and the hobby place as a whole, I got the feeling it was never really all about the money for him and although putting them all up in one auction might have been the least painful method for him, it was probably also the best way to get the books into the hands of as many comic book collectors as possible. All I know is that a lot of books fell through the cracks, and as a result, even I along with a lot of other smaller time collectors were also able to pick up some super rare Centaurs and other truly HTF GA books without breaking the bank. I strongly doubt that this will happen with the Promise Collection though, since it appears the auction is gearing up to extract as much money from your pocket as possible, and hence not really meant for the smaller time collector on a budget.
  8. First book in the GA portion from CL's Focused Auction last Friday which is why my fading memory can still remember it: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dace%2Bcomics%2B65%26GO%3DGO%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1477098&id=1477098&itemType=0 After seeing that beautiful Subby 11 above, I just can't for the life of me figure out how this book here managed to score such a high grade given all that wear around the bottom staple area and those fugly ticks running down the length of the spine and let's not even talk about those nasty corners on this book here.
  9. Absolutely hate this Covid-19 fiasco that we are still stuck in after more than a whole year as I am now way way overdue to have my eyes checked. Especially in my old age when my eyes must really be starting to go, because no matter how hard I look and look, I still can't see much wrong with this top left corner here at all:
  10. Spoiler alert...............nobody dies forever in this comic book world of ours that we have here.
  11. Well, sounds as though you must be a big time customer of theirs and have an "in" with the graders then. If I sent in a book with those noted and clearly visible issues on the front cover, I would be lucky to even have a chance at a 7.5.
  12. By definition, it could only be one family. If that's the case, then I guess Burrell for some reason must have gone after only the Miss Fury run out of all of the Timely runs. Suprised he wouldn't have held onto any of the Cap's, Torch, Subby's, USA, etc. or the Marvel Mystery's after issue #11 then, since they (including all of the keys) are all listed in Chuck's Mile High Catalogue. If so, I guess the Miss Fury run must have remained intact after Burrell picked it up and stayed that way throughout until John Veryzl picked it up for his own collection then. Or is it possible that Church didn't really cared so much for the super heorines since it looks like his Moon Girl run only had a Fine copy of Moon Girl 7 as listed in Chuck's Mile High Catalogue?
  13. Amen. And I, for two. Is that because there's no need for whining when like the old saying goes............."a picture is worth a thousand words".
  14. Yes, when I saw the Promise Copy of this Miss Fury #2, I decided to take a quick look at the census and was rarther shocked to see that the highest graded copies were only 2 in CGC 8.0 and 2 in CGC 7.5, including one of the latter ones being your copy then. Checked my Mile High Catalogue and surprisingly, it would appear that the Miss Fury run was not listed in there which means that it must have been one of the runs snapped up by Burrell Rowe as partial payment for loaning Chuckles the $2K to purchase the entire Church collection in the first place, or dare we say was actually absent from the Church collection to start with. If it was in there as part of the collection, I guess it must be held pretty tightly in the hands of a private collector because both the HA and CC archives don't indicate a single sale of a Church copy for any issues of Miss Fury.
  15. Yes, especially since you can't truly grade a book just from a scan, as opposed to having the actual book in hand. Still, always best to buy the book, as oppsed to buying the label like what a lot of the OCD FOMO driven buyers seem to do nowadays. Looks like they have the Miss Fury run up right now, and Miss Fury #2 has always been my favorite out of this short run due to its beautiful blend of colors: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/miss-fury-2-the-promise-collection-pedigree-timely-1943-cgc-vf-85-white-pages/p/7244-175085.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Preview-SearchResults-120115&lotPosition=93|0# Surprised that they haven't had a higher graded copy after all this time, since this Promise Copy here is the highest graded copy at CGC 8.5. Not sure what happened with that top staple area or the wear at the bottom of the spine, but I guess it is what it is, although I have certainly seen better presenting CGC 8.5 graded books from a strict visual point of view.
  16. Utter nonsense! Is it simply amazing the number of eBay BIN wanna be multi-millionaires that we have in this global world of ours nowadays.
  17. If you haven't made a profit after some 30 odd years, then you must have been following the hot tips from Wizard religiously and buying Valiant and Image books for 3-figures when they were right at the top of the market a week after landing on the shelves of the LCS's.
  18. Utter nonsense! Totally agree with you 110%!!! Was just about to hit the BIN button at the full $105K bargain basement asking price when I noticed its "May Not Ship to Canada" notification.
  19. Looks like it went for pretty much what the 2020 going market rate was for these Phantom cover later Ace's or possibly even slightly lower. Looks like Heritage sold a slightly lower graded copy at CGC 5.5 for this same $432 price point that this CL CGC 6.0 graded copy sold for in this go round here. In the same Heritage sale from last March, it looks like they sold an Ace 148 in CGC 6.0 for $336, an Ace 149 also in CGC 6.0 for $432, and an Ace 151 in CGC 6.5 for $900.
  20. Well, avoid the number "4" then because that means death, whereas the number "8" means wealth and prosperity. Easy money if you live in a heavily Asian dominant city like mines in Canada, especially when Asian people are very superstitious.
  21. Well, I just ran down to my local Superstore as fast as my little feet could take me and loaded up on the margarine before everybody else finds out about this new way to preserve the color gloss and freshness of your comic books. Did they say how many layers of margarine I should be applying to my books to get the optimal preservation effect on my books.
  22. Well, after watching that video, I decided to be ahead of the game and lit a match to my copy of Hulk 181 and Spidey 129. I think everyone here on the boards should do the same thing to these worthless books that are already slabbed by the tens of thousands.
  23. Well, maybe they are hoping to snag one of these wealthy Asian buyers since they consider "8" to be a lucky and best number to have. With the property developers here in this city, they don't mind paying the insignifcant fee to the city for a simple address change to a good series of number (i.e. usually ending in an "8") because they know in a heavily Asian influenced city like ours here, it will mean big money in terms of thousands or possibly even tens of thousands of dollars to them.
  24. Well, not that sure about Hulk 181 since Heritage just auctioned off a CGC 8.5 OW copy for $12K this evening: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/the-incredible-hulk-181-marvel-1974-cgc-vf-85-off-white-pages/a/122118-11276.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 but the one that still seems to be heading up, if I am not mistaken is the Spidey 129 since this CGC 9.8 copy just sold for $33.6K tonight: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/the-amazing-spider-man-129-marvel-1974-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122118-11045.s
  25. Not sure where you've been if you are quoting prices from way back in January because this would be like several lifetimes ago in this fast moving FOMO driven crypto like marketplace of ours. Just off the top of my head, I can come up with 4 sales of GSXM 1 in CGC 9.8 over the past 2 months that are substantially hgher than your January $22,500 price point. I believe there was a CL sales in their Featured Auction near the end of February that sold for just over $40K, which was then followed by a $67,900 result in their Focus Auction in mid-March. This was then followed up by the $60K sale during the CC Event Auction in mid-April, and then some sanity returned to the marketplace as the recently completed CL Focused Auction had the last one going for something like only a paltry $48K. BTW: If I am not mistaken, didn't a X-Men 94 sell for something like $63K just after that GSXM 1 sale for $67.9K? I am telling you it's like crazy town out there right now with Heritage selling a CGC 9.6 (i.e. not even a CGC 9.8) graded copy of TMNT 1 for $66K at the beginning of April in their Signature Auction, only to have this record broken by CC a short 2 weeks later in their Event Auction when they sold their copy for $88K. Of course, nothing can really be as unblieveable as that totally whacko Transformers 1 sale for $44K back in February on CL.
