  1. Oh, snap...........you party pooper, you!!! Why go and spoil all the fun and hilarity here with boring facts and truths. I thought I was looking once again at all of those Special Marvel Edition 15's with the first Shang-Chi which I kept passing on for a dollar a pop back in the day because they were perfect except for that notorious wide white stripe running down the spine. And yet you guys are now selling them for almost $15K a shot, as evident from your Sunday Auction last night.
  2. I actually started my Seven Seas run with the sole purpose of acquiring SS 6 because green has always been one of my favorite cover colors and I also loved the color variations in the water here. So, guess what..............the first one out of the run I end up with is Seven Seas 4 way back in the cheapo days when the dealer told me that although he didn't have a Seven Seas 6 at the time, he did have this nice copy of Seven Seas 4 and I ended up begrudgenly taking it in the end instead.
  3. Hey Lon; I am willing to sacrifice myself and take the bullet here because you certainly wouldn't want to denigrate and drive down the value for the rest of this beautiful collection here with this miswrapped off-center book and that fugly huge huge white line running down the spine. Since I certainly wouldn't weant you guys losing any money on this book though, I am willing to pay you full cover price for it plus the cost of postage to ship it to me. You best PM me right away before I change my mind because I don't think you are going to be able to get a better deal than this for this fugly looking book here.
  4. I believe we just might be looking at the pending newest highest graded copy of this classic L.B. Cole spider cover after all these long years. Even with those corner spine dings, it should be able to beat the current trio of highest graded copies at CGC 7.5 to beomes the new single highest graded copy. That is, until the Church copy gets graded and comes into the marketplace because if memory serves, that copy there was pretty much flawless from what I remember seeing in the library at the Diamond Int'l Galleries grand opening way back in '95.
  5. Not sure about this as the current census numbers already indicates over 100 copies in CGC 9.8 plus another some 350 copies in CGC 9.6 knocking right on its door. Like you alluded to, I am quite sure these census numbers will be skyrocketing as this was part of a large warehouse find with tons of HG copies out there for cheap cheap prices back in the day.
  6. And now the price of MSE15 has tripled since last week. Great deal for the guy who bought the 9.8 on CL a few days before the trailer hit. Just imagine.................if it had been a good trailer instead of a bad trailer like what they dropped, the price might have quintupled on the book.
  7. Was watching part of the HA Sunday Auction earlier this evening and it's nice to see that there's still some love for the Seven Seas books: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/seven-seas-comics-6-leader-1947-cgc-fn-65-off-white-pages/a/122117-17521.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Have always loved this cover here and sadly, the only one now missing from my Seven Seas run and looks like I won't be getting a copy any time soon as this nicely presenting mid-grade copy sold for $5,040.
  8. You never know, in this crazed FOMO driven marketplace, the Blue Bettle books just might move like the Shang Chi books when the trailer hits. I still remember a few years ago when you couldn't give away a copy of Special Marvel Edtion 15, even as a Halloween treat as the little kiddies would just look at it and toss it right back at you. I still remember cherry picking about 5 copies of this book way back in the day since it was part of a huge warehouse find and they would always keep showing up in the back bins in minty fresh condition for only a loonie or so. The only reason I picked it up was that I liked the Gulacy artwork in the later issues and figured that I couldn't go wrong with a first appearance issue if I was patient enough. Then lo and behold, the book moves up to a few thousand when the movie is announced, and then goes nutso and hits into the mid $7K's this past month, and now that they've released what is apparently a terrible first trailer, it goes beyond nutso in tonight's HA Sunday Auction and fetches $14,400 for a poorly wrapped copy with that big white fugly off center spine (actually common for this book) showing : https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/special-marvel-edition-15-shang-chi-master-of-kung-fu-marvel-1973-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122117-17541.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 And that's for a book that's already got over 100 copies in this equivalent CGC 9.8 with another 350 odd copies knocking right on its door at CGC 9.6. So, best just to hang onto your GA books with the Blue Beetle in them for now and then hopefully pick up the pot of gold at the end of the comic book FOMO rainbow when the trailer for the Blue Beetle movie hits. , the money, that is.
  9. Wow, the colors on these books here look like they just came off the printing press and dripping wet as they are all just so stunningly bright. The books are also so flat which makes me wonder if they were also stored in the Mile High City right under Edgar's heavy cache of MH books.
  10. Yes, but are they still seeing these as writing defects like how they used to and hence take the grade way way down accordingly. From looking at the census, it would appear that these books have not yet been graded, so I certainly hope they view these markings as pedigree codes, as opposed to writing defects which are then unfairly hammered in the determination of the final grade.
  11. Well, from where I was tracking this one that just sold in Heritage's Sunday Auction, both of you might be on the low side by quite a bit here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/special-marvel-edition-15-shang-chi-master-of-kung-fu-marvel-1973-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122117-17541.s?type=lotlink--bidnotice-tracked-dailystatus I would assume this must be a new record for this book in this grade since it sold for $14,400 as the crazed FOMO buyers must still be out there in hordes and rushing to buy a book that you couldn't even give away a few years ago. Especially when they were part of such a huge warehouse find that they were probably given to the little kiddies as part of their scary Halloween treats. Which probably means that I really should get around to looking for my handful of copies which I simply couldn't resist back in the day because they were always around the back bins of the LCS's and in such minty fresh condition to cherry pick all for only for a loonie or thereabouts if I remember correctly.
  12. Unfortunately not, as all they'll probably look at is that big big number on the top left hand corner of the slab, and as long as it's got a 9.8 or 9.9, their wallets will be opened wide and they'll be throwing money at you faster than you can grab it.
  13. For me, it's pretty much the Tom Reilly SF pedigree books that I'll most likely never have another chance at given the current pricey marketplace. Had my chance at my first ever SD Con back in the early 90's when I saw a couple of Cap's and a couple of Marvel Mystery's sitting on Jon Warren's small table. Took the 2 Cap's because they appeared to be brighter and in better shape and passed on the darker and seemingly not quite as nice Marvel Mystery's. After I had gone through, the guy behind who's a fantastic boardie grabbed the 2 Marvel Mystery's and then explained to me that they were the Tom Reilly SF pedigree copies and I should be watching out for the SF "G" codes which Jon Warren (i.e. Overstreet's Pricing Update Editor at the time) himself clearly also missed.
  14. Well, now that you know, you can go right ahead and add an extra zero to the right for all of your books with a Blue Beetle cover and they'll probably continue to sell just like that.
  15. I guess my mail man must steal all of my nicer mail because I never receive books like this in my mail box. Just wait until this upcoming Blue Beetle movie come out and these books will sky rocket into the stratosphere just like that: https://www.looper.com/340949/dcs-blue-beetle-movie-release-date-cast-and-plot-what-we-know-so-far/ Okay, maybe not the GA version of the Blue Beetle, as these newbie FOMO crazed buyers of today will probably only be willing to pay up for the readily available BA and CA versions of the Blue Beetle books.
  16. The method that I've tried to do and unfortunately have proven unsuccessful to date is to acquire a copy of each major pedigree from the GA. Sadly, with the way prices have gone up over the years, I now know that I will never be able to achieve this collectible objective of mines.
  17. Yes indeed...................huge kudos and well-deserved congrats to Pat for not only having the fortitude and tenacity to keep the entire collection together (save for the odd later low demand books), but also the patience to wait these past couple of long decades for this collection to finally attain the official pedigree status that Pat and I knew that it so fully deserved. Especially when all other collectors or dealers would have sold off at least some portion of the collection in order to offset the original acquisition cost along with all of the subsequent additional ancillary costs involved in order to have the collection qualified for the yet to be published Pedigree Book and now to finally achieve full recognized official pedigree status from CGC. Needless to say, I am extremely happy to see Pat be able to achieve this accomplishment where most others have not. With the sole exception being that I have not yet been able to convince Pat to sell me even a single copy of one of these gorgeous books from this wonderful collection after all these long years and I understandably doubt I ever will.
  18. Yes indeed, as the next copy up in the batting circle certainly does appear tremendous to say the least. Almost makes me wonder if some of the potential bidders in the know might just have gotten wind of this upcoming copy and explains why there might have been no other live bidders on your copy. Either way, it doesn't matter now as it certainly looks like it worked out perfectly for you with no other competing live bids to go up against you in the extended bidding sessions which is definitely a rarity when it comes to CC's auction format for these types of quality books.
  19. Wow, congrats on what appears to be a very astute pickup of a nicely presenting copy of Action 7 relative to its assigned grade. Especially with respect to the price point which seems like a steal of a deal at what would appear to be at only single digit fractions to market value for an unrestored Universal copy. Past history from the CC auction archives also indicate that similarly graded or even slightly lower graded Mod restored copies of this book has sold in either the same price or at a higher price point in past year, and well before this big run up in prices on comic books. So, it definitely looks like you did well with your purchase here on this go round and it would also appear that we need not wait very long until we get another chance to see how the next one does, as this next one which I just noticed on their website should no doubt push up the value of your copy and reinforce the price which you had paid for it: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/908246
  20. Totally understand this, but given this extremely low discount to condition guide, it seems more in line with a Extensive (C-5) restoration designation. If you take into consideration that unrestored copies of Action 7 normally sells at a huge premium to condition guide, this is probably really more like a 95% haircut scalping to the marketplace value of an universal CGC 7.0 graded copy of Action Comics 7.
  21. And I imagine why this rather stunning copy was still able to sell for a healthy premium at 141.5% to condition guide, and yet this copy of Action 7 was able to sell at a rather low discount of only 14.6% to condition guide, even with the Vinnie promo video hyping it at the bottom of the auction listing: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/900302 Hmmmmm...........................maybe it was the Vinnie promo video that did this book in?
  22. Wow, never knew about this website and that's the best thing about these boards here is that you can learn a lot of new stuff from other boardies here on a pretty regular basis. Not sure how complete it is, but it porvides not only the cover image for each book, but also the key Library of Congress details for each book. Looks like there were only 3 books released in 1933 and I have the first 2 of them, followed by 1934 with a total of 8 books released in 1934 and I have 5 of them. Kind of sad that these very early comic books that gave birth to this hobby of ours is pretty much not in demand anymore as reflected in their valuations, as most collectors nowadays are focused only on the men in tights who wear their underwear on the outside.
  23. It's called having good taste and an sharp eye for quality classic covers when they make their appearance.
  24. Pm me. Lol. Now, that looks like an easy 6-figure photo, value-wise, from my POV if you can flash it front of the right set of FOMO crazed eyeballs.
  25. Was reading the CC article from the Scoop newsletter which I receive every Friday and noticed one of their noted highlights here: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/900731 Especially good to see that this gorgeous presenting copy here was still able to sell for $20,940 or for a healthy 41.5% premium over condition guide valuation, even though it was residing in one of those much dread PLOD holders, albeit with only Slight (A1) restoration work. I guess with restoration, it still really depends on both the extent and the quality of the restoration work because a CGC 7.0 graded copy of Action 7 with Mod/Ext (B-4) restoration work only sold for a tiny fraction of condition guide (i.e. 14.6% only), while a CGC 7.0 graded copy of More Fun 73 with Slight/Mod (A-2) restoration work sold at a discount of 67.5% to condition guide.
