  1. Maybe because it's not GA but still, I guess with my advancing age, my eyes must be failing me as I just can't seem to see the $12,683 difference between these 2 books here: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fdefault.asp%3FFocused%3D1%23Item_1453082&id=1453082&itemType=0 https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fdefault.asp%3FFocused%3D1%23Item_1457534&id=1457534&itemType=0 Since they are both Direct sales copies, I guess it must be that big bold strong all-white space running right down the whole spine of that 2nd highest graded copy that explains why that top copy sold for $13,250 while the one on the bottom with the seemingly stronger colors sold for only $567.
  2. Oh wow........................that would certainly appear to be a very strong and possible record price on the 'Tec 30 for that grade, especially considering there's no Batman on that cover.
  3. Okay, which one of you guys went and did the nasty on me and blew my bid out of the water: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dmore%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1453001&id=1453001&itemType=0 Especially when it's not really an authentic More Fun book since it's one of those zero demand pre-hero DC books and shouldn't all of you old fogeys who still remember these books be in bed by now and dreaming about real super hero books. And for all of you young whippersnappers and/or CGC label chasers, can't you see that it's NOT a CGC 9.8 graded copy and it doesn't even have one of those CVA Exceptional stickers on the slab.
  4. Why, dear Sir.....................................would you be referring to Robin, the BUTT Wonder with your comment here: I guess Batman and Robin's nightly workout together sure kept it in fine form, but maybe still not $180,000 worth for you.
  5. Yes, most definitely a bit of a shocker that it was able to fetch a totally astounding $180K, especially considering that although it's a key for sure with Robin's first appearance, most collectors have never really cared for Robin as he took away from the darker side of Batman which most fans prefer: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Ddetective%2B%2B38%26ItemType%3DCB%26CGC%3DYES%26CBCS%3DYES%23Item_1458560&id=1458560&itemType=0 Definitely a very nicely presenting copy with strong colors and good PQ, but it clearly would have graded higher if not for that obvious attempted, but poorly executed and failed erasure on the front cover.
  6. Yes, it would appear that somebody must have really wanted those Federal Hill Daredevil issues because most of them ran up quite a bit in the last few seconds of the auction.
  7. Specifically, what lots would these be since that super nice looking (relative to grade) Cap 1 is already spoken for? Come on now........it's no fun going against weaker competition as they are just a bunch of losers. What you want to do is face off against stronger competition so that you can up your game here.
  8. I guess that's why it managed to get one of those CVA Exceptional stickers. Surprised that the More Fun 53 didn't also get one of them from how sharp the front cover looks, but I guess either the consignor didn't want to bother with it or that back cover scan with the slight discoloration might explain why.
  9. Was over on the Cap 1 thread and it would appear that this nicer presenting CGC 8.0 lower graded copy actually did better than the not quite as nicely presenting CGC 8.5 higher graded copy of HA last month. Unlikr the more recent BA, CA, or waht have you, it's certainly nice to see that in the GA marketplace, a lot more attention is actually paid to the underlying book itself as opposed to just that big number on the top left hand corner of the slab.
  10. Anybody else here or is it just me who's surprised that the current top bid for this HTF key issue of More Fun is still at such a low price: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dmore%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1459506&id=1459506&itemType=0 From the front cover scan, this would certainly appear to be a very sharp copy with stron colors, and yet it is still languishing at only $26,750 or at a rather huge 32% discount to condition value. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if there's any last minute bids that's going to push the price of this book up to where it rightfully belongs. Relative to its DC Adventure twin partner in crime, I thought that the More Fun's had been picking up quite a bit of interest and demand as reflected in the prices for some of their recent auctions. It will definitely be interesting to see how some of these More Fun's do in the CL auction tonight because it appears that they have a rather nice selection of them, with quite a few of them in grade, and yet the prices on them are still very reasonable at this current point in time.
  11. Ummm.............................I believe you are referring to the 3-minute extended bidding format which CC has in place for their auctions. CL's auction format have auctions ending right at their posted times, similar to the eBay auction format and as such, bidders usually have to throw in blind bids or use some kind of snipe bidding software if they really want to win a particular lot.
  12. Well, from the sounds of how many of these cards are around (as evident by your own photo here) and the enormous turnaround time to get them back from the grading companies, they might already be worthless long before you even get them back.
  13. He was reintroduced in the silver age, and appeared in the first season of Stargirl (and is set-up to return), as well as multiple episodes of the 1990s DCAU Justice League, as well as continuing in the comics. Plus his GA covers are classics. Well, let's not forget about his multiple appearances in the recent Gotham TV series which just wrapped up its 5-season run last year. As for the high prices on this book, like you said, it's all about the classic cover as this book has always been a favorite of collectors and finished up very highly in the GA All-Time Classic cover survey which Heritage held a few years ago. If I remember correctly, that's the one where 'Tec 31 finished on top followed by Suspense 3 and then Fantastic 3, with Punch 12 just missing the podium.
  14. $42,278. Yes indeed, big congrats to you on getting it pretty bang on with your price range as it came in on the lower end of it. Hopefully, you was lucky enough to be able to find some generous person to fund you the first $25K to help you pick up this beauty of a book.
  15. Cerebus 1 9.4 just sold for $29,130 on comiclink! Due to the lack of historical sales, I guess I would have to say that this is a FAIR price for the book, but not necessarily a strong price given prices that we have seen for TMNT 1 and especially Albedo 2. Just checked GoCollect and it looks like their FMV for a Cerebus 1 in CGC 9.4 is at only $18K, while their hypothetical value for one in CGC 9.8 if it does exist is at $29K.
  16. Well, it looks like you got your answer as there were 4 bids that came in near the end, with 3 of them in the last minute that brought the final price up to $566K. Not sure if that is a record for a CGC 9.0 graded copy or not, but either way, that would certainly appear to be a rather strong price from my point of view.
  17. Received another email from CL and just wondering if we are now heading all the way back to the old heady days of a few years ago when it came to Spidey and AF 15: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Damazing%2Bfantasy%2B15%26GO%3DGO%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1457476&id=1457476&itemType=0 Already at a whopping $470K with still another 4+ hours to go, although I guess the fact that it is a Curator pedigree copy helps to give it a bump. Just reminds me of a couple of years ago when CC was able to sell a CGC 9.0 graded copy for something like $395K and then a CGC 9.2 graded copy for $598K, along with some apprent record setting sales right here on CL that I am too lazy to look up right now.
  18. Yup. Not uncommonly either. Yes, didn't most of these pressing related issues started to occur after Matt left the CCS side of the business and moved over to the CGC grading side of the business? Not sure if there's any truth to the rumours that CGC usually gave a soft pass to most of these tell tale "pressing errors" at the time because they knew where the books were coming from as they didn't want it to hurt their cprporate business model. It apparently became pretty evident that pressing is not as easy as some would tend to believe and the newbies just didn't have the same skills at it as Matt did. Either that or they simply got too busy with all of the pressing jobs they receive once Matt got into CGC as their head grader and seemingly made NCB creases the most egregious defect on a comic book possible and disproportionately bludgeoned them accordingly with his heaviest hammer when it came to grading.
  19. All I remember is the big huge sports card crash of the early 90's just before we had the big comic book crash a couple years later after that.
  20. Oh, you are such a big tease with this very enticing photo of your trading cards here. You are just going to end up getting one of these young whippersnaper card collectors wetting their diapers when they see your complete set of Marvel trading cards here.
  21. Was scanning through an email from CL earlier this evening and noticed a book which I have never been able to figure out the valuation on: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dadventure%2Bcomics%26ItemType%3DCB%26CGC%3DYES%26CBCS%3DYES%23Item_1460553&id=1460553&itemType=0 This book reminds me of the first time I was in New York City in the mid-90's and was in the Metro offices when I mentioned to Fishler that I couldn't understand why collectors would pay so much for this book here. Fishler said it was no surprise to him since he was the one that was personally responsible for making it such a high dollar value book. I guess he must have found enough dog lovers willing to dig extra deep into their pockets for this doggy doo doo of a book that Overstreet ended up breaking it out and jacking it way up above all of its other surrounding issues. Anyways, took a quick look at it and noticed that it's already way over guide at $9,100 but probably still got quite a bit more to go since Heritage had sold a similar graded copy for $16,800 less than a year ago in the Spring of 2020. Took a closer look and I gues it must be the CONSIGNOR themselves who must be wishing that this book is going to go higher since it's the very exact same copy that sold for $16,800. Simply find it amazing and rather crazy that flippers think they can make fast money on a comic book which they have just finished paying an astronomical record price for. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I am starting to lean this way. Actually, if I was bidding I would much rather go for one of those earlier GA Adventure's which are not only higher in grade, but also harder to find, and still well under condition guide at a tiny fraction of the price of this book here which tends to show up relatively often.
  22. With these kinds of wild price swings here, are we talking about comic books or Bitcoin?
  23. Most assurdly not, just that their undisclosed grading standards have definitely changed over time. Like all changes, some for the better and some for the worse, and I guess something to be expected when you have major changes to your grading teams over time, especially since grading is still sometimes more of an art than an actual science. It's rather unfortunate that they have avoided disclosing their grading standards on the rather flimsy excuse of proprietary knowledge because it certainly gives them a big leeway when you see inconsistencies in their grading over time. From my point of view, definitely not good when their grading standards were "fine tuned" or "evolved" over time to target defects which would encourage submittors to use some of their additional services or to resubmit their books for regrading, all for additional fees of course. I remember back in the day before CGC, that most collectors would pay much more attention to defects like misaligned spines on books that could be seen from across the convention floor, as opposed to tiny (but easily fixable for a fee of course ) defects in some cases that can only be seen by holding a book at a certain angle to the light. And yet here we are today, at the point where many submittors will not even think to get a book graded unless it has been shall we say "properly prepped" or at the very least pre-screened prior to being graded. Being a long-time collector and more of a purist at heart, I wish we could just simply send a book straight in for grading instead of having to play this whole game. But then again, I guess it means more money going into everybody's pockets as long as everybody's aware of the rules and plays accordingly, because if you don't, there's most likely some punishment grading heading your way. And yes, a book cannot be accurately graded based upon just a scan, as you most definitely need to have it in hand in order to have any chance of grading it properly.
  24. Well, I couldn't be.ieve I actually wasted several minutes of my valuable life watching this guy's seeming temper tantrum. I was getting ready to call 911 because it certainly looked like his eyes were about to pop right out from its socket, or he was going to have a burst artery and an on the spot heart attack before he got to the end of his video.
  25. Yeah, go figure that as CL is actually providing some useful historical information that both HA and CC don't provide. Best not to mention this though, otherwise they might get wind of it and take this useful feature away from us.
