  1. The real question is although there are indeed deep pocketed collectors out there, are there really 127 NEW ones out there, let along 500 of them that's willing to fork over $40K+ for a copy of Hulk 181? Same thing with respect to TMNT 1 in terms of whether there are 32 NEW deep pocketed collectors, let alone say 100 of them, that are willing to turn over $60K+ for a copy of TMNT 1? After all, you have to remember that the vast majority of the current owners of CGC 9.8 graded copies of either Hulk 181 or TMNT 1 most likely brought them at a much lower price point than the current market value and would not actually be willing to pay current market value for a copy if they did not already own one.
  2. Well, if the old economics prof (i.e. Boston Corbett himself) was still around these parts, I am sure he would wait until the 25th next week and then pronounce it loud and clear to all us once again: Thus endeth the lesson!!!
  3. Except for the fact that I believe the prices on them have dropped significantly in price from a few years ago when Star Wars 1 in CGC 9.8 was easily going for a few thousand dollars, and something which is most probably not happening anymore after that initial hype.
  4. When did Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Starlord, Aquaman, gang from Star Wars, etc. bcome villains and when did Venom become a hero?
  5. Which is then usually followed by the usual drop off in prices after the hype of the announcement wears off and is usually already on the downside by the time the movie hits the silver screen.
  6. Well......I'll give you an example as to one reason I am not a fan of those shiny little silver badges. In the January CL auction was a book that sold for 2,600 without the cva. I noticed before it ended that there was the same book with the same grade/page color coming in the Winter auction. Both looked very much the same. I got outbid in January. Ok, I'll bid ridiculously, with reckless abandonment, with no regard to recent sales prices (which seems to be the norm in comic collecting the past 6 months or so) in the Winter auction. But suddenly out of nowhere the book in the Winter auction magically grew a cva sticker and on the opening day it is already up to 2600. Professor; Have you ever considered the possibility that in this very grade-centric marketplace of ours, that speculators or flippers might be looking at the CVA or QES stickers as books with a much much higher probability of being bumped up to a higher grade upon a resub, wherther it be through the usual CPR play or simply through a straight resub? As such, these types of potential buyers might just be willing to bid a bit higher on these books than they would the ones without the stickers. Not sure about the CVA stickers since they appear to be a generic sticker for any book that's deemed to be exceptional relative to the assigned CGC grade. The QES sticker at least seems to impart a bit more information since I assume if you find one that denotes the usual strong colors along with perfect edges and spine placement, etc. (all relative to assigned CGC grade again), then should this book not stand a better chance for a potential upgrade upon a resub? Especially if the only major item left are probably certain grade killing defects like tiny near invisible NCB ticks which although cannot be seen in a scan sometimes, but can be if held in hand at a certain angle to the light and shall we say "easily fixable".
  7. Since we already have Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin as the TV versions of Flash and Supergirl respectively, are we suposed to assume that the DCEU movie versions of these 2 characters as played by Sasha Calle and Ezra Miller completely different characters or just darker versions of the same characters? As for holding onto the Action 252's, shouldn't the long running Supergirl TV series already did a lot of hyping up the prices on this book already, or ongoing TV series just doesnt have the same impact on prices as standalone movies?
  8. Not sure how you calculated the $450 loss unless you incorrectly assume the book was first purchased on Pedigree and then unsuccessfully reflipped on Heritage. In this particular case here, it would appear that the buyer paid $9,000 for the book on Heritage and then flipped it back out on Pedigree for only $7,200. Not sure what the seller's commission is with respect to Pedigree, but if you assume the standard 10%, this means they would have received only $6,480 for a net loss of $2,520 excluding shipping charges. Unless the buyer was Schmell himself in which case the loss would only be the $1,800 since he would have to worry about any SP then. Interesting to note that Alfred Pennyworth (i.e. Randy Lawrence himself) would appeared to have taken a substantial loss on this copy since it sold for only $9K on Heritage when the description on the Pedigree website states that this copy was sold for $12K back in March of 2016: From the awesome Rockford pedigree. This same copy sold for $12,000 in March, 2016! From the Alfred Pennyworth Collection.
  9. I'm not implying anything. I'm speaking purely in hypotheticals. Yes, just found your post a bit confusing when you mentioned buying a book for only $1,000 and yet paying $3,000 for it pubicly.
  10. So, are you trying to imply that those Heritage Auction sales results are "fake" and nowhere even close to what the books really sold for, or are you saying that the final auction results were somehow manipulated?
  11. Never mind eBay which might not be the safest place to pick up these books, but there appears to be some nice More Fun's in this go round of the CL Auction that ends next week. You certainly can't complain too much when they are in grade, with some even the hghest graded copies, such as this stunning super rare beauty here and still at a relative bargain price for now if you are into the very early pre-hero DC GA books: https://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dmore%2Bfun%26ItemType%3DCB%26CGC%3DYES%26CBCS%3DYES%23Item_1453001&id=1453001&itemType=0
  12. The answer is pretty clear but not my place to discuss That's what happens when you are late to the show and end up putting in tracking bids on books at too high of a price expecting somebody else to take out your bids for you in the end.
  13. I was actually surprised the loss wasn’t higher. Heritage does a good job squeezing the maximum out of the items they sell and these books were in their sweet spot for material. Yes, especially when Pedigree is really an auction site that tends to focus primarily on a seemingly endless supply of HG Marvel SA books more than anything else.
  14. Not sure why, but this seems to affect the Marvel side of the comic books much more so than the DC side. In particular, it also seems to affect the more recent and much more readily available BA and CA books, as opposed to the older and more HTF GA books. Witness all of the craze over Spidey 300 because of the Venom movie or all of the talk about Hobgoblin that seems to be starting up, along with ongoing talk and hype about who's going to appear in Wandavision or whatever it's called. And yet, have we noticed any kind of similar increase in Black Lightning books or is there even any talk or buzz at all about the GA Sandman Adventure run with the upcoming new Sandman TV series that's scheduled to run on Netflix in the near future? Yes, even though it's based upon Neil Gaiman's version of the Sandman comic book series from the mid-80's, you would still expect to see some kind of collateral benefit, but doesn't seem to much to this point in time yet.
  15. Well, has it carried over to the Golden Age of Comics All-Chromium trading cards such as this one here from the 90's: Seeing as how those Marvel cards are from worthless drek comic covers, then how about some of these GA comic cover trading cards where a real book like this is fetching over $50K in less than VF condition.
  16. Yeah, looks like it's already been discussed on Pages 114 to 120 of this big seemingly ongoing CC thread here:
  17. Well, the thing that you forgot to point out here in your comparison is that although there are already 54 copies of the Marvel DD 130 slabbed by CGC, there is only the one single copy of the Lev Gleason DD 130 slabbed to date. It should also be noted that this one single copy of the Lev Gleason DD 130 is a CGC 6.5 graded copy and that there are a total of 49 copies out of the 54 total slabbed copies of the Marvel DD 130 that's been graded higher than CGC 6.5 to date so far.
  18. Not sure why you are too lazy to take a look for yourself, but here's a scan of the book for you anyways: https://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Ddaredevil%2B130%26ItemType%3DCB%26CGC%3DYES%26CBCS%3DYES%23Item_1451959&id=1451959&itemType=0
  19. a true treasure .... Hey @Mmehdy...................be sure to have your camera ready to go when you trip and drop your pile of Action 1's.
  20. I would think six figures, because it's the single highest graded of the first appearance of a premier villain (and a classic cover to boot). I would tend to agree with you although it should be pointed out that the same kind of multiples don't seem to be paid for graded GA labels, as opposed to more recent books such as Bat 181, 'Tec 359, etc. where it all seems to be about the label since there are already so many copies in similar high grade. Not really since this is such a classic and one of the best GA covers out there, that for most collectors it's a keeper if they have anything close to a half decent copy.
  21. Ok, not exactly why all of you young 'uns are getting your panties in a knot here, as there's actually a very simple and easy solution to all of this. All you have to do is buy the book, crack the slab open, tear off the crappy cover and toss it, and then simply replace it with a cover that's not translucent. You never know...............you might even end up getting a CGC 10 out of it plus a CVA Exceptional sticker to boot.
  22. Well, I would tend to agree with you that nobody's going to end up paying $52,000 for this book here, especially since there's still another 8 days to go in the auction. Well, I guess we'll just have to see how this book does on its third go round after selling for $4,370 way back in 2005 and then supposedly hitting $85,000 on its second go round here in the summer of 2019. So, are you trying to say that there is indeed some usefulness to the CVA Exceptional sticker, or are you trying to imply that a CVA Sticker of Deception would be useful in this particular case here?
  23. Yes, I took a quick look at this auction and there did indeed seem like a lot of rather aggressive bidding in the first few days. Looks like it has mostly slowed right back down the past few days though, with most of the lots sitting somewhere around 60% to 65% or thereabouts to where they will most likely end up finishing at. I guess we will have to wait for the last few days to see more action on most of these books here, although I guess we won't have to wait right until the end of the auction like we have to with CC where a lot of their action takes place in the extended bidding on the hot books.
  24. If I can read the ad on the inside cover though the outer cover in a mirror I don't want the book. Well, if you take a closer look at the Heritage scan from way back in 2005 when the book was both graded and originally scanned, it's rather obvious that the translucency was already there and not something that creeped in over time with the book sitting in the slab: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/tomb-of-dracula-10-marvel-1973-cgc-mt-99-white-pages-here-s-the-only-99-yet-certified-of-this-key-bronze-age-book-th/a/818-1167.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515# I remember buying brand new books off the shelves of the LCS's way back in the mid to late 70's and I do clearly remember that certain issues would have this translucency issue. I believe CGC views this as being caused by the printing process and hence possibly something that they don't really take into account in the final determination of the grade. And yet, possibly one of the main reasons why this particular copy here did not receive the CVA Exceptional sticker from CL.
  25. Since it's all in fun for us then, what's your best guess as to the final price for this gorgeous looking copy of AA 61 then?
