  1. Why not ? It worked for the other guy. Throw in a good whine et voilà, 9.6. Well, as the old saying goes...................two wrongs don't make a right. Or, in this case, is it three? I wonder what would happen if they go back and have a redo on all 3 books based upon their current undisclosed grading standards, as opposed to having a relative grade-off against each other which appears to possibly what happened here. You never know, there might be no empty slot to fill as you could have one CGC 9.2, one CGC 9.4, and one CGC 9.6 copies.
  2. Richard; I am sure you are right when you say the CGC 9.4 SF copy is better than the CGC 9.4 Denver copy since you have both books in hand. Just on a cursory glance of the scans only though, the Denver looks nicer than the SF due to all of the glare that's coming off the Human Torch book. I guess that's why scans can be a bit misleading at times without the actual books in hand.
  3. Are you guys referring to a pre-screen for a particular grade here or are you referring to a pre-screen for pressing here?
  4. Are you trying to be sarcastic here or just plead total ignorance about this comic book marketplace. The answer is just so obvious: And so much more for all parties involved, as long as they are willing to play the game.
  5. If it were me, I believe the 3.0 copy of 'Tec 38 might be nicer (from a front cover appearance) than the CGC 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 69 above. Personally though, I strongly feel that those 2 copies are definitely not as nice as these 2 CGC 3.0 graded copies from a CC auction back in 2016: I guess this is another example that grading is definitely more of a subjective opinion at one particular point in time, as opposed to an exact science over a period of time. From the record setting prices realized for these 3 books, it would appear that the bidders were astute enough to buy the book, as opposed to buying the label.
  6. Hey, did anybody here just snapped up this copy of Archie 46 from Heritage: I was totally planning to raised my bid for this book when the auction got closer to its end earlier today. Ended up forgetting all about it as I must have been totally tripped out watching that super weird and definitely oddball Doom Patrol series on TV.
  7. Well, it's a good thing that some of us live up in the Great White North where we get both of these shows for free on the Space Network then. Spent my time the past 2 days watching the Doom Patrol series right from the pilot and I have to admit it's definitely rather oddball and a bit trippy.
  8. In that same vein, should we not also assume that the book might be restored? After all, the restoration check is also another thing we are sending the book in for. Needless to say, if it is indeed restored, it would definitely have a significant detrimental impact on the value of the book.
  9. Since you ended up selling it for what you paid for it, did you ever considered simply sending it back to Heritage for a straight refund? At least that way they would have gotten the message they had possibly done something wrong. This way, they think everything's actually fine and hence, they continue to "misrepresent" their scans going forward, not thinking that anything was wrong at all.
  10. Anyone else willing to comment on the backstory of these two specific examples?...Any information regarding their "grade" would be appreciated [before I place another less than informed bid...] Most likely graded by Steve and West, the original person that started up CGC along with its long time GA grader. Decades of grading experience as opposed to the relative newbies at CGC in comparison, so you should be good to go with the grades. That is, of course unless you think all of the slabbed books graded by CGC during the first 15 years or thereabouts of their existence are invalid and needs to all be regraded.
  11. Well, glad to see that the CGC booth is pretty much as busy as the time they were set up here for Fan Expo in Vancouver. Strongly doubt they'll ever bother to set up here ever again as it must have been a big money loser for them.
  12. Surprised that info ain't on the site. It's commonplace these days for promoters to either not post dealers attending or to post them so close to the show as to not make any real sense. I used to scour exhibitor lists for shows to visit and ran into this often. I guess promoters don't think it's important to list who will be exhibiting at their shows. They probably don't want any potential comic book collectors that might be thinking of attending to find out that there is at most probably only a small handful of comic book dealers setting up at the show. It would most definitely discourage them from paying the big bucks to go through the doors to find no worthwhile comic books to buy in there.
  13. The X-men 1 cover looked so white I was excited when I won. What I received was no where near white. Intentional or not, a serious misrepresentation I wondered if anybody has ever bothered to try to return a book to Heritage due to the inaccurate colors of their scans? I bet you if you throw around words such as misleading, misrepresentation, or potentially fraudulent, you would get your money back right away. Of course, you most likely wouldn't ever be allowed to bid in any of their future auctions going forward.
  14. Well, that's the nature of the beast and the mentality of the CGC acolytes here. Yes, I can definitely remember when they were almost perceived like comic Gods when they worked with the host company here and their names spoken with reverence on these very boards. Yet, when they moved across the street, it was almost like they couldn't grade if their life depended upon it from most of the comments on the boards here. Go figure that.
  15. Gee, and I thought he might have been borrowing CC's camera or scanner to take the picture since the images for many of their auction lots, shall we say, seems to leave a lot to be desired at times. Sometimes, the difference seems to be like night and day when you look at a scan from CC as compared to Heritage. Relatively speaking, sometimes almost like they took them in a darkened basement with the lights turned off for good measure.
  16. Definitely not a dig at Gator's intent, as I assume it was either a quick picture of the book or a picture of a picture which never produces the best result. As for Heritage's scan or picture, I think it basically speaks for itself or probably not. Should probably look up the definition for "potentially misleading" based upon the many recurring comments I read here about their image color accuracy or rather inaccuracy.
  17. Highly doubt it as I clicked onto the link and it indicates "Book Not Found" and states that "The book that you requested could not be found in our inventory". Not exactly sure what this means though. Does anybody here remember what the grading was on this book here before it got removed from their site and was it listed for their current June Event Auction or somewhere else?
  18. With respect to these so-called top tier and competing highest graded copies of books, should it also not be the responsibility of potential bidders to pay much greater due diligence to the books and what they are bidding on before actually bidding on them? Then again, it's easy for collectors like me to say since I definitely don't play in this deep end of the pool. Plus the fact that I also would never pay up for a label knowing all of the shenanigans that takes place with respect to grading. To each, their own...........but I've always prefer the theory of "buy the book, not the label" when it comes to my bidding. Of course, that could also explain why I very seldom ever win anything.
  19. Man I hate boardies like you who always sit on the fence! I just wish you would come out from under your blanket and tell us how you really feel.
  20. So it's kind of like "three weeks a ago, I thought this was a 9.6, last week I thought this was a 9.6, but now that I am looking at if for the 3rd time it is quite clearly a 9.8"? Or is it just a case of: now that we've collected $15K in grading fees instead of a mere $5K, we'll go ahead and give you a better grade Sean; If you have the answers to the following questions, I believe you would have the answers to you own questions up above: 1) Who is the king of the pressers and had been in the pressing business for over 2 decades and is now in charge of CGC grading; 2) If you know the answer to Question #1 above, any chance that CGC's undisclosed grading standards would have shifted somewhat to target certain defects more; and 3) If you are CCG which is a business entity, would you want to make money on a product only one time or make money on selling the exact same item as many times as you can? Gee, maybe we should have progressive pressing like introductory pressing, intermediate pressing, advanced pressing, and then final pressing.............but let's not tell anybody about it like how we kept the original pressing under the table for those first 5 years before we were caught with our pants and undies down around our ankles.
  21. Sounds as though you don't buy the theory or CGC's story that they simply grade the book that's in front of them then?
  22. Oh, thank goodness as I thought it was just me only. I've always had this theory about grading when it comes to non-pedigree versus the long established brand name pedigree books and the theory goes like this: Graders are prone to go on the downside if they are unsure or in between grades on a non-pedigree book just to show that they are a tougher (i.e. more accurate) grader. When it comes to a brand name pedigree book though, I believe they give them the benefit of the doubt and go towards the upside. Especially when they are unsure or in between grades because they are simply more intimidated by the pedigree itself and don't want to be seen as not knowing how to grade.
  23. Looking at these 2 images of the exact same book makes me wonder what the real colors are like on the actual book itself? If I was the potential winner here (that'll never be the day ) and I had bid high 6-figures or possibly even touching near 7-figures based upon the Heritage scan and the book arrived looking like Gator's picture , needless to say, I would definitely not be very happy. Is that Rick's lousy handiwork with using a camera or did he simply borrow the one from CC that they use to take all of the darkened and crappy pictures for their auction lots? BTW: With that blown up Heritage scan, it definitely does not appear to be similar to other CGC 9.4 graded copies of books that I have seen.
  24. Do you mean like this copy here: Or is it this one here: Looks like it keeps on getting better: Well, you most definitely can't go wrong with any of these 3 gorgeous looking AMF beauties!!!
  25. There are 10 on the census. There is a duplication of listings: both "A Date with" and "Date with." Thank God you posted that information here for me. Just in time too, as I was about to send him a PM offering to pay $10K for his copy there. Now, I'll probably send him one offering $10 and do him a favor by taking that as "common as dirt" book off his hands.
