  1. Certainly not much chatter about the Heritage Auction on this go round. So, apart from the Centaurs and the Magik Woo Spidey's, it looks like this particular auction was pretty much of a big yawner in comparison to the more "once in a lifetime" Jon berk auction from a couple of months ago.
  2. There is only one auction house that charges a Buyer's Premium of 19.5%. As far as I am aware, all of the other auction houses do not charge any Buyer's Premium at all.
  3. Did you end up winning them in the end? And if so, what were they...........maybe one of them being a New Adventure 26?
  4. From my point of view, you are really comparing apples and oranges here. What you have done is gone back and compared the single top performing SA book to the performance of the overall stock market as a whole. Any bets that if I take a stock like Apple or Google or any other one of the top performing stocks over the past 25 years and compare its single performance to the average performance of the overall SA comic book market, a stock like Apple or Google would win hands down and its performance would be well over 20% compounded annual growth. If you take a look at Overstreet's SA Top 50 Chart for this year, there is a total of 34 books in there that had only single digit percentage increases, with some of them ranging as low as zero and 1% only. Just imagine what the numbers would look like for the books that did not make the Top 50 listing and I bet you that it's nowhere even close to double digit compounded annual growth.
  5. I was comparing to GPA previous highs - apologies I should have been clearer. Some were five figures under previous high-water marks. How old and stale dated are some of those GPA highs since they could also be nothing more than outliers from several years ago? The comparisons would be much more relevant if you had the the average for the past 2 years along with what the last sale was in that particular grade.
  6. +1 Yes, I was definitely surprised that some of the Ducks did so well in this particular auction here. Especially when they had quite a few Ducks in their last auction in May and the books did not seem to do so well. For example, a copy of FC 159 was only able to fetch something like $750or thereabouts in CGC 8.5 grade, and yet the CGC 9.4 copy (not the highest graded copy) went for almost $6K in this particular auction here. Definitely a strong and rather surprising price on the FC 386, but hopefully a sign of better things to come going forward on these Duck books.
  7. actually won with my tracking bid that I placed before I bought a copy at sdcc...... go figure...now I'm "saddled" with 3 copies Well, this confirms that you are nothing but a hoarder when it comes to these nicer Centaur books. Actually, I had thrown in some bids on these AMF Centaurs, but did not want to go overly aggressive on them because from bidding on them in the Jon Berk auction, I got the distinct feeling that the bidding for them at some of these higher price levels were rather thin. Looks like it took only an additional 1 or 2 bid increments above the final internet bid to take most of these books out. I was a bit surprised that the AMF V2/#2 with the classic cover and featured on the back cover of the Heritage Auction catalogue was unable to garner even a single additional bid during the live portion of the auction. Besides the issue with the Sand Hogs cover which I thought went for a reasonable price, the other one which I was giving some serious thought to was AMF 23. Besides being the current highest graded copy on the CGC census with very few copies graded, the listed PQ on this book just seem to be better than on the rest of the Centaurs in this auction. My earlier bid on this book turned out to be the under bid and I was seriously thinking of bumping it up another increment when I was watching the auction live during brunch at the restaurant. Don't think I would have won it since I am quite sure it would have been outbid in the end anyways.
  8. Any idea what kind of dollars we are talking about here? Interesting to note that this story seems to imply that his two most successful works, namely Kick- and Kingsman, were included as part of the deal when all other media outlets states that both of these creations were excluded from the Netflix purchase.
  9. Out of control which way since one of the previous posters just stated that the consignor must have taken a bloodbath on the sale of these HG Spideys?
  10. +1 Now, those were the stats for the recent sales of AS 3 that I remembered. It's never a good idea for an auction house to put 2 copies of a supposedly tough and important GA book into the same auction. Unfortunately for you, Overstreet along with a part of the market will see both of these as strong sales since they are both at price points which are significantly higher than guide. For example, your 3.0 copy of AS 3 will be shown as a sale at almost $10K versus a current guide price of only $8,400 and I also assume that you will be receiving less than the $8,250 hammer for your book when it's all said and done. Hence, weak sale for you, but relatively strong for the marketplace and further support for increasing the price in next year's guide. Still came out better than the consignor for the All-Flash 1 even after the consignor for the lower graded Rockford pulled his copy out of the auction. Too late as everybody now already knows there are 2 copies of this same book in play since they were both in the printed catalogue. Now, this one is assuredly a very weak price since it hammered out at only $6K versus a 8.0 condition guide price of $8,750 which means the consignor will most likely be receiving even less than $6K on this book here. Some huge losses as compared to what since I don't believe the consignor will see it quite the same way since these books were purchased more than 25+ years ago at what I assumed must have been at fractional levels of what they sold for today. Except for the Spidey 3, it looks like all the rest of them sold for either huge premiums to guide or even at multiples to guide. I guess it might be "huge losses" as compared to recent GPA prices, but I am not sure since I don't really follow the SA market at all.
  11. on the AS 3 above. Is that a stronger price than's been seen as of late ? If yes, why do you think ? Movie effect ?? Actually, is this not a weak price since it is running only a bit over $4K on a price per point basis, as I believe CC had a couple in their auctions around the beginning of this year at higher PPP levels than this? In fact, didn't one of them get close to something like $10K on a price per point basis? The only reason I remember is that I had made a comment at the time about how the marketplace appear to be cycling back to some of the traditional keys which had been out of favor for a rather extended period of time as collectors had been busy chasing after classic covers along with some of the newer and cheaper keys that were popping up.
  12. No, I actually think this is a strong uptick for the book as I believe a similarly graded copy sold for something like only $10K to $12K several years ago when this same book was guiding in the $25K range or thereabouts. Now, that was rock bottom for the book as it was selling for less than half of guide for a top of guide copy. So, I actually see this a a big positive step in the right direction as it is slowly creeping back towards guide price. You have to remember that Adventure 73 was once firmly ensconced in the Overstreet Top 100 and this is definitely not the case anymore as it has fallen right off the charts. Especially sad considering that this book features a classic and beautiful Manhunter cover.
  13. I did. Good through oct! No worries then as I guess a 12-pack will be good for you until this weekend.
  14. I found a 12 pack of zero at target today. Woo hoo! Did you check for the expiry date?
  15. Presents well, nice pages, tough book!! What's not to like ?? Great stuff Sha!! +1 Wonderful pickup as these later issues of both Mystery Men and Wonderworld seems to be picking up quite a bit of heat lately. I also think it's particularly astute to go after the ones that do not have a Church copy or another pedigree like the Larson for that particular issue. Even more so if it happens to be the current highest graded copy, but still at a reasonable price because it's not in uber HG condition.
  16. I believe he's had these books sitting in the Heritage pipeline for over 2 years now.
  17. I believe this was to be expected since the other CGC 9.8 copy was auctioned off almost 2 years ago and early Spidey prices have gone up significantly over the past year or so. It would have been an absolute and surprising disappointment if this copy was unable to surpass the previous record high for a 9.8 highest graded copy.
  18. Didn't Greg Buls proposed some type of investment concept like a comic book mutual fund back in the early part of the 90's that potential investors could invest in, without having to take possession of the actual comic books themselves? Since his concept was basically linked in with the hype and unrealistic speculation driven by both Wizard and Valiant at the time, needless to say, we all know what became of that idea.
  19. I guess that's why you win all of the big headline grabbing books and I end up winning only the ones which I can find by scraping the bottom of the barrel.
  20. Since you are posting this in a thread talking about Overstreet, I assume you must then be talking about valuation growth from a price guide point of view then. Since you seem to be more knowledgeable about the sports card card market relative to the comic books market, there may be simple but signficant differences between the pricing guide models in the sports card market as compared to the Overstreet pricing guide model used for comic books. Since I am not familiar at all with the pricing guide model for the sports cards, can you enlightened us as to the following: 1) Is there more than just one pricing guide for the sports card market or are we back to only one now; 2) Do the price guide(s) for sports cards attempt to fully valued the various cards in the guide to what they are actually selling for in the marketplace, or do they intentionally lag behind the marketplace, especially for in-demand cards which might be moving up in price quite fast; 3) Is the top listed condition level listed in the sports card price guide set right at the maximum top level or is it set somewhere lower and at a more reasonable condition level so that it is not trying to account for the highly volatile and speculative portion of the marketplace; and 4) Who determines the final price that is going to into the sports card price guide? Is it set by a large group of different people or is it primarily done through the direction of one main person who oversees the whole thing and most probably have the final say when it comes to significant changes? I have a pretty good idea as to the answers for these questions with respect to the comic book price guide model and just want to see if there are significant differences when it comes to the sports card price guide model which might provide you with the answer to your question up above.
  21. You mean some of those bids that are already at or around 10X condition guide still haven't blown you out of the water yet?
  22. Are you implying that the losing under bidder might be the actual winner here by not over paying for this book, while the actual winner might be the loser based upon the price paid?
  23. What, what, what??! Oh, and here's the link for the ones too lazy to look it up: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/western/rawhide-kid-17-marvel-1960-cgc-vf-85-white-pages/a/121732-11612.s? Not a bad price at all for the consignor at $10,755.
  24. As far as you know, is that CGC 8.5 graded copy of Rawhide Kid 17 that sold on Heritage on Sunday the first Western comic book to actually go for over $10K in the marketplace?
  25. It obviously stinks to find out a book has resto when you didn't think it did but this is a beautiful copy. +1 Definitely a very beautiful copy since CGC tends to whack the restored books pretty hard in terms of grading, as they generally present nicer than their technical assigned grades. This results in very few restored copies managing to hit into the 9's in terms of overall grading. Steve; Did you ever consider the possibility that Marnin himself might not have been aware of the restoration work himself, or was it so obvious that most collectors should have been able to spot it? Even though a lot of these old time dealers should in theory and also claimed that they were good at spotting restoration, I somehow got the feeling they probably couldn't tell for sure even if their life depended on it. Their restoration detection skills seem to be limited to guess work along with an analysis of the book's previous owners. If a name like Mark Wilson popped up, than the assumption was that the book must have been restored although they couldn't tell you exactly where. Hopefully, you didn't have any dealings with Mark in the past, as it was often stated there was not a book that he would not try to improve upon, no matter how nice it was to start with already. Unfortunately, he also considered all of that cleaning to be non-restorative activity according to his definition which as it turns out, CGC did not agree with when they came out with their own internal non-published list of what was restoration and what was not restoration.
