  1. Anybody have some free time this long weekend so that they can scroll trough all 77 pages and see if there are any of the early Centaur books which were so prevalent in the Jon Berk auction the other week. I guess we must have been spoiled or probably should have bid higher last time since I can't seem to find any with doing just a quick check.
  2. Looks like there's way too much focus on just Marvel and DC here. How about something slightly different here like Thunder Agents #1 from Tower Comics?
  3. Well, I just checked my invoice order status and it has gone from Pending to Shipped as of June 30th. I guess that must mean I should receive my order some time early next week, considering the additional holidays in there.
  4. Well, that kind of says it all. Based upon recent auction results including the recently completed one for the Jon Berk books, I believe their is a noticeable shift away from the actual technical grade itself as bidders are now willing to pay more for books with superior eye appeal relative to their assigned grades. If this is actually happening and going to take hold , I believe it's a positive step in the right direction from my point of view.
  5. Agreed about waiting 3-6 months to see if these new prices are stable. At this point though I don't think that the upcoming movie is having any impact on prices. +1 Don't understand why this Spidey movie should be making the kind of impact to the prices we are seeing on the recent AF 15 prices. After all, Spidey has already been in several movies of his own over the years. Even if the movie is a huge success and beats all prior expectations, I don't think anybody really believes it's going to have a long-term incremental impact on prices going forward. Just take a look at GTOG which was a totally unexpected smash hits, and yet prices on their books have come down significantly since the release of their first movie once the hype died back down.
  6. feh, anything less than $7,020,000 is a failure in my book. Well, I guess if Tim had only told us what his max bid was for the Church MM 3, we would have ensure that the marketplace gave full value to his book. It would then be a win-win situation for both sides as Jon would also be out of the dark closet and weeping with tears of laughter on his way to the bank.
  7. Just got confirmation again that the book is not for sale and will be removed from the auction as it is one Jon is keeping for himself Rick; Are you playing the part of Charlie Brown here and CC is playing the part of Lucy and constantly pulling the football away just as you come to kick it.
  8. From my point of view, it's more likely that the book was brought by an old time collector who's had it sitting in their private collection for the longest while , as opposed to a new generation type collector who is much more into the CPR game and believes that it's all about the grade and nothing else. I see, you discovered my secret........I love to daydream. I do honestly believe that if you find a book with an old label that's been graded prior to 2003, the chances of it having been artificially juiced up or pressed is most likely slim to none. Unfortunately, I would definitely not say the odds are anywhere remotely close to that for the post-2005 graded books. I would probably pay a premium for an old label book depending upon the condition of the book itself, but unfortunately so would many of the flippers who would probably see this as nothing more than an opportunity to squeeze a few more dollars out of the book.
  9. You do realize that this is Pedigree and not Comiclink or Heritage you're talking about. +1 I was also thinking exactly this when I first saw the almost $60K figure along with all of the Marvel chipping on the book. It's good to know that Doug personally handles and involves himself with all aspects of his Pedigree auction website, including the actual bidding process itself.
  10. Looks like he forgot to mentioned that all of these record sales did not take place through his auction website, but rather all came from his competitor, CC's auction website.
  11. Or they could play the long game and inform the buyer about the possible maximization of potential, especially if the consignor is an old time collector who doesn't believe in playing the grading juicing game. After all, why collect on the fees only once, when you could collect on them twice.
  12. It would seem that he really didn't need to... And one of the main reasons why I even registered on the CC website so that I could bid on books in this specific auction.
  13. Exceptionally presenting copy. The cover colors make this one look like a grand slam home run to me!
  14. WOW ! What Auction House has this book ?? ComicConnect, as seen below: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=732549 Absolutely amazing, and without a doubt, this is going to be the highlight book of the entire auction. You can't get any better than the highest graded copy of the first Archie appearance, as this one has been a long time waiting is going to go to the moon.
  15. From my point of view, it's more likely that the book was brought by an old time collector who's had it sitting in their private collection for the longest while , as opposed to a new generation type collector who is much more into the CPR game and believes that it's all about the grade and nothing else. For example, I don't believe Jon bothered to "maximize the potential" on any of his books before putting them out for auction.
  16. Oh wow ................finally, a nice copy of a Fox book which all of us regular collectors can hopefully afford. The highest graded copy of Mystery Men 11 which is tied with the Allentown copy and owned by one of our esteemed board members here who emphatically states that it is not going to be available in the marketplace anytime soon. Will definitely beat the price of the Allentown copy which was brought over 10 years ago when the Fox books were going through a cooling period. Will be interesting to see if it passes the sale price for the Church copy in the recent Berk auction since the MH copy is quite a few grade notches lower than this copy here. And as a added bonus, it's also old label goodness which doesn't come around that often and is generally hard to beat.
  17. Ah, ok. Thanks. Will it be the first Baker cover to clear the $10K mark? Definitely NOT as the 5th highest graded copy of Seven Seas 4 already did that earlier this year: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/seven-seas-comics-4-universal-phoenix-feature-1947-cgc-vf-85-off-white-pages/a/7158-91100.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Looks like the Seven Seas 6 was graded back in 2012 which many considered to be a relatively soft grading time period. Must take a closer look at the actual book itself, although it is a Church copy and you can't go wrong with that.
  18. NGIT covers always go for big bucks They certainly don't seem to come around very often, especially as the years go by. Always love the Fox books, but my pockets are far too shallow to even be thinking about these 3 books.
  19. Wow!! Some pretty amazing stuff coming. I wondered where the Church Science 2 was. Well, I would certainly expect the Science 2 to pull in some Jon Berk-like multiple since you can't beat a Church copy, especially when it's also the highest graded copy to date by far. Actually, I expect all 3 of these highly desirable Fox book to do real well and will most likely be picked up by some buyers with deep pockets.. Heritage is already hyping the Wonderworld 7 as a book that they expect to sell for multiples of guide. Can't really argue with them since it's also got the bonus of old label goodness since it was graded back in 2002.
  20. 5 5 stands for Less Than Average in existence with an estimated total between 200 and 1,000 copies in existence.
  21. It was listed last time too... i suspect it was accidentally listed again. Are you sure it's going to be removed? I was able to find the original listing in the actual auction catalogue itself, but could not find it on their website as a completed auction sale. Is it possible that this was simply a mistake on CC's part by failing to list it on their auction website? Maybe everybody does have a second chance at this book here.
  22. Oh, I see, it's the CC July Monthly Auction: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookSearch.php?searchType=advanced&listing_type=monthly&pageNum=0&pageSize=25 I am too lazy to look myself, but can somebody please scroll through all 51 pages and report back to us if there are any worthwhile GA books in there.
  23. Yeah but what will it go for? $10k, $20k, $40k, $100k ? Will be interesting to watch. On thing I am sure of is it will be more than I am willing to spend. Which one of his multiple old copies will he be selling? Or is this where we see 10 straight CC auctions with a copy of Fantastic 3 in each one of them as Steve disposes of his long held hoard of his favorite book. On the other hand, is this another copy of FC 3 that Steve gets to add into his little hoard as he's trying to corner the market?
  24. Hard to tell in the small photograph (don't know why it did that), but there's a small chip out at the bottom right corner of the front cover and also a small chip out on the back cover. I thought they might be production defects, but CGC thought otherwise. With that in mind, the grade is thus accurate and I have no complaints (vivid colors, white pages, and the Larson pedigree appeal to me more than a technical grade). The Larson list is of course very helpful, but it is not a completely trustworthy source for grading on a thousand books. On an otherwise near perfect looking book, that seems like a pretty big hit for a small chip, but it is what it is. Absolutely love the vivid colors and looks like your Larson copy would have been the highest graded copy until Jon 9.6 Church copy just got graded for his recent auction.
  25. This is one of the better 'funnies' style covers imho. It stood out to me when I was browsing the JB auction. A collaborative effort or a single artist? I think the JB copy presented well but had PQ 'issues' I believe the Brittle Pages was probably one of the primary reasons why the Berk copies received such a low grade, because they certainly did present very nicely relative to its CGC 2.0 assigned grade. One of my collecting friends was bidding on either one of both of these Little Nemo covers, but dropped out after while due to the high bids relative to the brittle pages.
