  1. Were there any other board members here bidding on the Keen Detective Funnies, or was I the only one? Definitely not one of the higher profile and more in-demand Centaur titles, but some of the early issues are still really tough to find.
  2. I agree totally. jb Kudos to the MAN himself who made this a truly generational event that all of us, as fellow comic book collectors will remember for the rest of our lives.
  3. I was definitely eying that one during the extended bidding time period, but decided to give it a pass before the time counter hit zero. Only so many dollars and so much other goodies left to go in this auction.
  4. So basically a cgc 9.4! Wonder if the price will reflect as much. Yes, I guess similar to how the CBCS 8.5 AF 15 was being dissed by most boardies here as being an overgraded POS book. And yet it ended up also being CGC 8.5 AF 15 with the buyer promptly selling it at exactly double his purchase price a few short months later. Wonder how much a CGC 8.5 graded copy of AF 15 would be worth in today's blazing red hot AF 15 marketplace, since everybody here passed on one (except for one poor uninformed bidder who most of us laughed at and felt sorry for) at only $77.6K less than a year ago. Lesson clearly NOT learned and looks like there will be a lot of money left on the table once again.
  5. Great Photo! +1 First time I see this one. What a pic !! Can somebody ask the old guy to scoot over a bit and scoop up the 3 books near the bottom right for me?
  6. All I can say is that 10% of millions and millions is a pretty large percentage here. I believe it's more like a fraction of less than 1% of Spidey fans who would be interested in the actual Spidey comic books themselves, and only a fraction of that small fraction would be interested in slabbed Spideys which they could not even open and read.
  7. If there had been fewer restored books then there would have been fewer books in the collection. That would have been sad because Jon is all about the books and there would have been fewer for him to use for research and to share. Yes, Jon is most definitely a true collector and an aficionado for this comic book hobby of ours. Was able to pick up one of the Conserved Amazing Mystery Funnies on the first day, but really regretted missing out on one of the PLOD Fantastic's last night since it went for a relatively reasonable price. Gotta be faster on the draw with so many windows opened at the same time.
  8. Well, after sitting slabbed in the Heritage vaults for more than 2 years, it looks like the 9.8 graded copy of ASM 14 is finally coming to market, exactly in accordance to Magik's original plan: https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=52+792+4294949588&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=magik+Woo&ctrack=473536&type=bodylink3-comics--special-CashAdvance--tem061317
  9. Should have gone at least 10 imo. Although it is rather sad to see the relatively large number of PLOD's and Conserved books in this collection, I guess the positive is that it keeps the prices down to a reasonable level for collectors like me with limited wallets who are at the bottom of the food chain.
  10. You should have taken the Berk 28. Something tells me I know who picked up the copy and will certainly be flipping it for 12-14K within the next couple weeks on his web site. Yes indeed, I was absolutely shocked at how low the 'Tec 28 sold for, even though it is a PLOD copy here with Moderate restoration. Certainly one of the tougher pre-Robin 'Tec books to find out there, although there have been a few popping up in the marketplace during the past couple of years. From these prices for this book, definitely still a highly underappreciated book, considering that it is after all is said and done, still the second appearance of the Batman.
  11. I though $66K was a relatively strong price for issue #1, although it is a first issue appearance and origin along with being a mind blowing 9.8 graded copy from 1939. Absolutely love how dynamic and 3D like this cover is with Samson busting right out from the cover in all its red color glory. Makes me regret passing up on the Larson copy which Fisher had offered to me for $5K within a hour of picking it up from Overstreet and Geppi for only something like $3K or thereabouts. I probably should have grabbed it on the spot, but Steve was a bit hesitant and kind of said that he wanted to take it back to confirm its authenticity. Somehow, I got the feeling that it would have been a bit more than $5K if he could confirm it was the Larson copy, which it was in the end. It sure would have looked nice as a pair with my issue #2. Not a big deal at the time since I was really more after the Big 2 which I considered to be the Mystery Men and the Wonderworld's. Live and learn.
  12. No, that was only me with some wishful thinking during the excitement since I've got a issue #2 in possibly equivalent condition to this Church copy here. Since the Church copy sold for only the piddly amount of $9,609 it probably means my non-pedigree copy is only worth $960.90.
  13. Peter; I can get this later for you when I get back home, if somebody hasn't already done it by then. Well, here is the complete list for you: 1 --- $66,000 2 --- $96,609 My bad as it went for only $9,609 3 --- $243,000 4 --- $6,409 5 --- $23,956 6 --- $8,009 7 --- $7,266 8 --- $9,567 9 --- $4,109 10 --- $4,800 11 --- $4,800 12 --- $3,505 13 --- $2,900 14 --- $2,250 15 --- $4,000 16 --- $3,100 17 --- $410 (Not a Church copy) 18 --- $500 (Not a Church copy) 19 --- $1,050 (Not a Church copy) 20 --- $1,153 21 --- $15,200 22 --- $26,609 23 --- $3,900 Looks like the entire run went for $452,102 as it looks like the 9 books that were already pointed out up above accounted for the bulk of this total.
  14. And Chuck had the entire Fantastic run listed at the outrageous price of $1,035 in his original MH catalogue. And to think that most collectors were balking at his prices back then because he had the nerve to charge premiums or in some cases, even multiples of guide for books which was unheard of at the time. Not sure when his MH catalogue came out, but the 1977 Overstreet had the entire Fantastic run (exc. the 17 to 19) at only $706. Only a 46% premium to top of guide which is peanuts compared to what we saw yesterday.
  15. Peter; I can get this later for you when I get back home, if somebody hasn't already done it by then. I do know that the FC 1 went for $66K, the FC 2 for something like $9,609, the FC 5 for almost $24K, and the FC 15 & 16 for $4K and $3,100 respectively since I was bidding on these last 2 books.
  16. So, that was you I was competing against for the FC 16 before I finally dropped out. I was actually more interested in the FC 15 before it went somewhere I didn't want it to go. Thought both of these books would have gone cheaper since they were only 8.5 graded copies, but no chance of that happening in the end. Congrats on your FC 16 with the nice deep purples.
  17. Are any of the board members here aware of anybody who has won any of the Church Fantastic books? Just wondering if this Church run has finally been broken up or if some big money collector was able to scoop up all of this run in its entirety?
  18. Funny I hadn't looked at it that way, but you are right. I'd say the thing is so few FC3's came to market by comparison, Overstreet and we collectors had no decent amount of ' hard data ' to know where this book actually stood ( point per dollars). Maybe too late for this year's guide to reflect but I'm certain 2018's edition will. Yes, you are definitely right here in terms of the 2018 guide reflecting this sale for FC 3. But since we all know how slow and gradual Bob's price increments are, I am also quite sure that the 2028 price guide will still be reflecting the results of this sale for FC 3.
  19. That was a nice pickup on the AMF V2#6 as it's just an absolutely beautiful book with its bright colors. I would have gone harder after that one, but decided to focus more on the AMF V2#2 since it didn't have the spine split seal, already broken out in the price guide, and also feel that it is slightly tougher to find in grade relative to AMF V2#6. At least that was my analysis during those 3-minute extended bidding time periods, but now that I think about it more, I probably should have gone harder after both of these books after the AMF V1#1 blew past my price range.
  20. Congrats on this steal of a deal at only $116 for a HTF "low demand" book. All I can say is that you would have had to pay more this if I had finished my dinner a few minutes earlier.
  21. ..And almost tied with Church SC3 ....And now getting close to those seemingly common as dirt 8.0 copies of AF 15's that are starting to pop up all over the place. If I had a choice between those 3 books, I know immediately which one I would take and which one would end up at the bottom of the heap.
  22. Peter; +1 Congrats on picking up a super copy of this key pre-Robin 'Tec book which I know you've been going after awhile. Well done and certainly looks nice relative to its assigned grade.
  23. I'm surprised Gator wasn't bidding on it. It is a toughie. Yes indeed, where is Gator tonight? He was practically doing a play by play for last night's auction, but not a peep out of him so far tonight. Maybe he's busy counting up his pennies for the Church Fantastic run which is due up in a couple of hours from now.
  24. Well, looks like the Blue Bolt 105 with the gorgeous si-fi cover is finally getting its well-deserved day in the sun. Already at close to $3K in CGC 8.0 condition, with still another 3 minutes to go before the extended bidding possibly takes place. Update: No extended bidding, but still a very strong final price at $2,888 for a CGC 8.0 graded copy.
  25. Wow, looks like the Cap 3 is nipping right at the heels of Cap 1 for now. Highly doubt it will finish up that way though. Should still be interesting to watch when both books turn the final corner.
