  1. My estimate was based on the amount of time since one has been offered in an auction and the recent increase for second tier titles (look st the string price for the last GA flash) Well, since it finished up at $66K, it looks like you managed to hit it into the green as you said that it would crack $60K, but not touch the $80K mark.
  2. Probably because everybody here is talking about the AF 15 auctions earlier today on CC, and his link was to another copy that had not yet been mentioned to that point in time. Most likely just for reference or informational purposes for those boardies who had deleted their email messages and no longer had access to the completed CC auctions.
  3. Looks like this silverfish infested copy still managed to get a very strong price at $66K, by almost doing an astounding double in the extended time bidding session of the auction.
  4. The IGB books continue to plummet. http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=694717 I am not sure if "continuing to plummet" is the right term to be using here, since I thought prices for their books were always scraping bottom right from the start. Looks like this copy here sold for just over 15% of unrestored condition guide, while some of their earlier creations sold for high single digit percentages to condition guide only, if my memory serves me correctly. So, prices relative to guide might actually be rising for them.
  5. ? Not sure what the question mark is for? As per previous post below, there were a total of 5 complete AF 15's on sale today, along with another 2 graded as NG since they were wraps only: As usual on the boards here, virtually all of the attention is focused on the good news, while the not so good news is usally simply ignored or swept under the rug. Listed below id the link for the fifth copy of AF 15 graded at CGC 3.0 and also sold through CC today: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=708386&title=AMAZINGFANTASY I assume collectors in this marketplace must really dislike Stan's signature as this copy sold for just a bit over guide, while the first 3 copies all sold for multiples to guide. Well, it still did better than the 8.5 graded copy with Stan's signature that went for $20K under guide at Heritage. Of course, the book sold for double that amount a few months later once CGC got hold of the book and removed the note on the label about the book having Stan's signature in it. A word of advice, if you have a AF 15 sitting in your collection, do not get Stan to sign it since this could do serious potential damage to your wallet.
  6. Well, it's quite obvious that you've got excellent taste there when it comes to the classic covers. Are you saying that you don't like the first appearance of Batman's "love toy" jumping right out at you on the cover of 'Tec 38?
  7. I hope the buyer purchased the CGC grader's notes.....seems odd to me if it had any chance to grade higher why the seller would not have had it sent back in himself.....so the inside may actually make the book a 5.0 I guess you have not been keeping up to date with some of the BA threads several months ago where there were some concerns with signifcant changes in grades as books were being resubbed for potential higher grades. In some cases cited, CGC 9.2 graded books were cracked and resubbed, only to come back in some cases as CGC 8.0 and CGC 8.5 graded books. Some 9.6 graded books were apparently now coming back as CGC 9.2 graded books. And it seem the only way to get back the same grade or close to it was to do some "additional hidden undisclosed" work on the books. The issue would seem to be related to different grading teams headed up by different personnel, changes to their undisclosed grading standards, etc. If you buy Graders' Notes for books graded nowadays, the 2 words that keep popping up over and over again, are creases and stresses, even though you sometimes can't even see them from the enlarged scans. Certainly not the case before.
  8. Yes and even the copies with some defects will continue to rise as well they are still after all AF15's!! Just like the key golden age books in lower grades with defects. Yes, waiting with great anticipation to see how 3 very early key GA Detective's will do in this CC auction on Wednesday. Especially since all 3 of them seems to present so much nicer than the relatively low grades which were assigned to them by CGC: 1) Detective 1 - CGC 3.5: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=697754 ; 2) Detective 29 - CGC 3.0: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=684452 ; and 3) Detective 38 - CGC 3.0: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=676931 Interesting to note that all 3 of these books were graded in the latter half of 2016, with the 'Tec 38 in July of 2016, the 'Tec 29 in August of 2016, and the 'Tec 1 in December of 2016. Co-incidence that all 3 of these nice looking books would all have serious interior hidden defects or could it possibly be nothing more than a case of extremely tight grading? My bet is that all 3 of these key GA books will set records based upon a Price Per Point basis, if for no other reason than they just look so visually appealing relative to their grades.
  9. CGC some times really makes it hard for us but we do not know how bad the inside of the 5.0 is that sold for 57 000$.....could be real bad. Most definitely and that is exactly why I hope any potential bidders for these big dollar books spend the few extra bucks to purchase the Graders' Notes before bidding. Of course, there's also the other possibility that one book might have been graded during a so-called loose grading time period while the other book was graded during a so-called tight grading time period. Seems that the 5.0 copy that sold today through CC was graded during the latter part of 2016 where we are seeing so many gorgeous looking books that seems to present much nicer than their assigned grades from an visual eye appeal point of view.
  10. Yes but it went from 21 500$ up to 28 000$ tonight and my guess it will sell for 29 500$. Still not a bad looking 5.0.....not like the one that sold for 57 000$ tonight but at half the price seems OK to me. Yes, but not talking about price here, so much as talking about the grades since this is what we are paying CGC to do. Strictly from a eye appeal point of view, the difference in the visual appearance between the 2 equally graded books at CGC 5.0 is almost like night and day. I will admit though that the scan for the CL copy seems to be terrible and faded since it was hard for me to even read the serial number.
  11. For comparison purposes, this is absolute proof that not all 5.0's, or any grades for that matter, are created graded equally: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=700363&title=AMAZINGFANTASY Hence, maybe not so much of a bargain after all. Remember, it's always wise to buy the book, as opposed to blindly buying the label.
  12. I don't really know or have a list of them. Let's just say, most would not shake the house around here. I bought a pretty big pile from Chuck at Casual Con when he first found the collection. My interests were censhorship books so a lot of SOTI, Parade of Pleasure, Love and Death ect as well as ones that I just liked. I passed on Suspense #3 because it wasn't a SOTI book. Do you remember what year this was? Was it in the summer of '77 or something like that? I assume this would well before he got around to printing up that Mile High Catalog of his with the tiny tiny print that almost made you blind when you tried to read it. Did you actually see the copy of Suspense 3 sitting out on his booth at the Con? Any idea if he still had the big GA books like Action 1, 'Tec 27, Marvel Mystery 1, etc. or were they already sold by then or were they being held back by Chuck at that early stage of selling?
  13. As the approaching hours get closer, I am starting to lean to the school of thought that this copy might not be able to crack the $300K $400K mark. Not sure why, but maybe there's just been too many nice copies showing up in too short of a time frame. Can't wait to see as I guess we'll all find out soon enough. Well, it looks like we got a clear answer here, as AF 15's would appear to be as hot as ever. Oh wait......my bad as it looks like I made a small little typo up there in my rush to post earlier.
  14. Is this the copy you are referring to: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=700363&title=AMAZINGFANTASY Hard to tell since there were a total of 5 complete copies in CC's auction today, with the first 3 apparently doing very well and the last 2, probably not so much due to their associated issues.
  15. As the approaching hours get closer, I am starting to lean to the school of thought that this copy might not be able to crack the $300K mark. Not sure why, but maybe there's just been too many nice copies showing up in too short of a time frame. Can't wait to see as I guess we'll all find out soon enough.
  16. I followed the dying seconds and it was up to around that with like 10s to go. I must say I was surprised at final hammer given overall look and condition of the book. Chewed out, slight to brittle pages Well, I guess this pretty much makes every single one of the early Detective Comics issues in CC's upcoming auction this coming Wednesday look dirt cheap and like a bargain basement deal in comparison.
  17. I believe that's the only explanation that makes sense to me... Has anybody in the vintage comic book world been able to figured out why CGC in effect "refused" to grade this book and simply decided to give it a NG designation instead? I personally feel that this designation effectively destroyed the marketability of this book as it may have left many potential bidders with the mistaken impression that CGC may not have deemed this DA 1 to be an real comic book.
  18. The book still has a long way to go to hit your $340K projection since it is still sitting at only $202K with about 7 hours left. Of course, most of the action will take place at the end and during the extended time bidding, so I guess it's just a matter of being patient and we'll see how everything shakes down after a few short hours from now. As for image of this cover on clothing, it should be noted that there are tons of various comic book covers adorning various forms of clothing over the past few years. In fact, I have even seen bright colorful underwear using the beautifully drawn classic Schomburg airbrush covers from Startling 49 & Startling 50 on sale in fashion stores here. All sorts of cross product marketing and merchandising using comic book related imagery right now and for the foreseeable future.
  19. Fair enough, than if this book is based solely on grade of the material and not the label of the slab, what what should this copy reach than? I believe he is simply saying to buy the book, as opposed to buying the label. Especially when grading is still really more of an art, as opposed to a science. And also when we have seen so many scans that indicate there are indeed tight grading time periods and loose grading time periods.
  20. Yikes. I hope no one would place an eye appeal premium on that copy If you are referring to the big chunk missing from the front cover, that's nothing more than DC's version of Marvel chipping since they always like to do things "bigger and better" than the boys at Marvel. Apparently, nothing to see here anyways as CGC supposedly does not take Marvel chipping into account when grading since it is considered to be an acceptable "production defect" at certain grade levels.
  21. whoa Yes, indeed! I heard through the grapevine that a one Mr. Harold Blandeman has owned a particular Church book longer than Edgar The Man has owned it himself.
  22. it seems like across the board all copies of this book are up around 75% of what they sold for in 2014 based on GPA. So this book probably gonna sell for 340-360k if the numbers hold up for the ultra rare copies in the coveted 9+ range as they do for the more common VG books. Should be interesting to see. If it does go for 340k+ its gonna make that 8.5 look like a steal. Which 8.5 sale are you referring to? The supposedly clearly overgraded 8.5 book slabbed by the other company which some apparent poor uninformed foolish imbecile had brought for $77.7K smackers, but yet somehow managed to resell it only a few short months later for $155.3K real dollars after getting it regraded as a 8.5 graded copy by CGC. Or are you saying that he is still a foolish imbecile and should have waited a few more months since he would have gotten a lot more than $155.3K for the book?
  23. I followed the dying seconds and it was up to around that with like 10s to go. I must say I was surprised at final hammer given overall look and condition of the book. Chewed out, slight to brittle pages The eBay auction format encourages last second sniping and this sometimes definitely results in some crazy prices if you get 2 bidders that decide to toss some silly number out there with no idea that it would actually hit that high mark. Quite a bit different strategy than the CC auction with extended time bidding which eliminates the need for last second sniping and allows potential bidders additional time to take a more measured and thoughtful approach to their bids. Of course, this approach could also result in high prices if you have more than one aggressive bidder out there, but at least they would have fair warning and know in advance that their next bid is going to be a direct hit to their wallet, instead of a pie in the sky hope that their snipe bid might not actually go that high.
  24. Although the two coverless copies are interesting, I am much more interested in where the 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 29 and 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 38 in this current CC auction are going to finish up at, since both of them seem to visually present much nicer than their assigned grades. Of particular interest is that both of these 3.0 slabbed copies were graded back in the summer of 2016 which was clearly an extremely tight grading period, as evident by scans of several GA books which we have seen on the boards here.
