  1. I've always loved the Gulacy artwork, especially with respect to some of his splash pages and his use of reflections. Although many have stated that his artwork is more in line with being an inferior version of Steranko's more original and stylistic artwork.
  2. Most likely has something to do with the quality of the books you are placing discounted offers on. If it's common drek that every other dealer and collector are trying to get rid of, I am sure you would have absolutely no problems. If it's vintage quality collectible comic books, you are probably dreaming and should get back into the real world.
  3. CGC has changed their stance on defects like this before (tape used to "reattach" covers) so they certainly could start downgrading for MC, but probably won't. Not downgrading for Marvel chipping was one of, it not the, worst grading decisions CGC ever made. +1 You are just so correct in your statement here. Especially since it really puts into the question the relevancy of the CGC label grade for any early Marvel book that exhibits any type of chipping at all and it also puts into question the usefulness of GPA data for any early Marvel book.
  4. I don't believe their options are limited, as they have made changes to their unpublished grading standards before. The perfect example would be how they handle the issue of tape on a book, as this is now consider to be a defect, whereas before not necessarily so much. There is no point to keep continuing to make a mistake just for the simple fact that past practice should prevail and they should continue making the mistake going forward. This makes absolutely no sense at all as the marketplace has clearly spoken out on this particular issue. +1 Excellent idea and a good strategy to address this particular issue here going forward, as opposed to keeping the current incorrect grading policy in place.
  5. +1 In total agreement with you here. But then CGC should not grade a book by either ignoring or mind filling in the chipping on the cover, as the defects on the spine is probably enough to being that book down to 6.0 grade all on its own. The chips should bring it down below a 6.0 grade, unless you are assuming they do not exist.
  6. Edited 2 hours ago by peewee22 So, is everybody really saying that chewed up AF 15 is a superior copy to this lower graded copy of AF 15: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=700363&title=AMAZINGFANTASY I don't see any difference at all between mouse chew and this so-called Marvel chipping, yet it seems that CGC downgrades severely for the former and ignores the latter, when they both produce the same visual eye penetrating defects on a book. What an absolute joke and travesty this is in terms of being a "properly graded" book.
  7. +1 So, CGC grades these books as if there are no chips at all. They don't pay any attention at all to the edges of the book with all of its obvious defects and simply assumes perfect edges by mentally filling in the chips when they grade the book. This is 100% totally from a grading point of view
  8. Oh, wow...........Cosmic Aeroplane Centaurs! Sounds like there is no list or summary of the books that make up this pedigree as it was dispersed into the marketplace very early on. Any idea how extensive the Centaur portion would be and if they would include any of the Centaur keys such as Amazing Man 5, Funny Pages Vol 2 #10, etc. since you are the acknowledged expert on the boards here when it comes to the Centaurs?
  9. Greatly appreciate all of your feedback and responses to our questions here! Have you ever seen or heard of a supposedly Cosmic Aeroplane pedigree book that did not exhibit the usual check marks, notations, or other distinct markings that are normally associated with books from this pedigree? Do books from this particular pedigree carry any type of premium relative to a non-pedigree in the same condition, or not really so much?
  10. Vg range. $995 Seems like a healthy price for the book in that condition range. I still remember receiving a newsletter from Metro about a year ago and this was one of the very few books that was on their Most Wanted List at the time.
  11. No. I was able to "sell" it. Do you still remember around when and approximately in what condition the book was in and what price you finally managed to "sell" it for?
  12. I have owned one. Never had anyone ask me for a copy , even when I had it on my convention wall If no one has asked you for it, does this mean that you still have it as part of your inventory then?
  13. Is this the big Event Auction that they just finished having since I assumed most books would have gone for enough dollars that you needn't worry about trying to combine orders to reduce shipping charges? It's a good thing that you are not dealing with Fishler directly. I still remember back in the days of Metro, whenever you asked him for a discount, he would always counter with 110% or 120% of the original price.
  14. No worries at all as they clearly state that they offer a full money back 7-day return guarantee policy. Any idea if CGC's turnaround time is now under 7 days?
  15. I'd love to see the Church Suspense 8, too. Very tough book in high grade. Is that your copy above? Nice book! +1 What a nice looking copy that Banner has there!!! With its all-dark cover image, I can just imagine what the Church copy will look like whenever its surfaces in the marketplace, hopefully sooner rather than later.
  16. I still remember the big discussion about the significant changes in grades for this resub which took place in the BA Forum: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/388228-x-men-100-92-and-x-men-101-80-came-back-ss-80-and-ss-70/ I am just so glad that it tends to be a lot more about the actual book itself as opposed to minuscule differences in grade when it comes to the GA books.
  17. Any idea as to the condition and if it was picked up from one of the public auctions?
  18. Gator; Have you ever owned or sold a copy of Ace Comics 11 with the first appearance of the Phantom and a book which came out quite a few months before Action 1? If not, any idea if there is a demand for this book since it is basically strip reprints? Or is the demand limited due to the simple fact that this book hardly ever shows up in the marketplace and you kind of need supply (i.e. copies to be available) in order to drive demand in this marketplace?
  19. Page 2 July 2010. Only Page 2 hmmm........I guess that wouldn't have taken that long then.
  20. What page were these picture on as I am too lazy to search through all 182 pages?
  21. Can you list all of them and their hammer prices? We should add those data points to the discussion as well. Peter; Links to all of the other AF 15 listings after the Top 3, including the last 2 with just the wraps only: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=707103&title=AMAZINGFANTASY http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=708386&title=AMAZINGFANTASY http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=710297&title=AMAZINGFANTASY http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=710298&title=AMAZINGFANTASY Definitely not as headline grabbing as the other 3 AF 15 auction results. Actually, you should still have access to all of the individual auction lots for all of CC's prior auctions yourself.
  22. I agree and this last statement is a great!! If you are going to be a buyer in this type of massive auction, you should try your best to avoid the situation where the money is chasing after the book, and instead, put yourself in the situation where the book is chasing after the money.
  23. That was my advice to Jimbo, not to Steve. Actually, I thought that was your advice to everybody on the boards here. Perfect way to cut down on the competition and leave all the books for yourself. But if everyone takes my advice to Jimbo and bids high on Berk's Fox books, won't that make it less likely I'll win any? I thought your advice to Jimbo was NOT to bid on any CC auctions, as Steve has already stated quite clearly that he would not be bidding on any of Berk's books because they are going through Metro. Hence, if everybody refuses to bid, then the field would be clear for you to scoop up whatever you wanted.
  24. Now that's a nice run of books to have, especially with respect to some of the Steranko like splash page artwork by Gulacy. Also can't complain about the beautiful and stunning Leiko Wu that he draws.
  25. Yes, it is. Must be an absolute killer copy then since it is listed in the Larson List as being a NM/M copy.
