  1. Looks like it came in a bit below the last GPA recorded sale of $26K, but well below the wish for price of $35K. The PQ might have hurt the final price on this book, but hard to say. A 15%+ hit just for the "PQ" on the label on a grail? That's a stretch. That price is below the 3.0 that just last sold as well. That's just a soft result for the book, plain and simple. Either demand is softening with so many copies coming to market at once or someone got bamboozled when they paid $26k+ for that other 3.5 a couple months ago. Given that many auction results have looked soft of late I'm inclined to go with the former. But there might be a touch of the latter in there as well. Either way it's all just speculation. -J. Was the $26K+ sale and the last 3.0 sale also done through eBay or through one of the comic book website? Oh, I know what's the cause of this drop..........it's that CGC label! If it was a 3.5 from the other distinguished company, it would have hit $26K without any problems at all.
  2. $35k final? Wow, what makes you think this book is going to go for almost 4X condition guide, or am I missing something here? After all, this is only the introduction of the much laughed about Robin, not 'Tec 31 which we are talking about here. The 3.5 that sold on GPA had better PQ OW-W and hammered well below 35K. I say 26K for this copy MAX with the winner being William Leach Don't be upset though Red ol pal...my prediction is the book will sell here then show up on CCs site in a few months with a Sticker price of.....you guessed it...35K Last GPA on a 3.5 was $26k. Maybe a couple people get frisky and it jumps up to 35. No whammies! No whammies! Hammer falls at $22,422 2 more copies have appeared on eBay. Both 1.5 Blues, BIN at $16,950 and $18,500 Looks like it came in a bit below the last GPA recorded sale of $26K, but well below the wish for price of $35K. The PQ might have hurt the final price on this book, but hard to say.
  3. That's because the Silver Age market is stagnant. The Modern market is where the action is. Well, if the number of thread counts, post counts, and members viewing are any indication, it would appear that the GA market is where all the action really is by a long shot.
  4. Don't believe this is anywhere near correct unless you are assuming that all sellers, including your average and Jane, which nobody has ever heard of must then have the same brand recognition and market reach as Heritage. Even Schmell himself went through HA when it came time to auction off his multi-million dollar Marvel SA personal collection, even though he has his own industry recognized auction site. So, there must be a reason why consignors are willing to pay the 800-lb gorilla. It is extremely likely that Schmell negotiated a better rate on that consignment. I don't watch the auctions as close as many but I don't think that HA on average gets 16.5% higher (10% seller + 19.5% buyer - Clink/CC 10-13%) prices than other venues do they? Of course Schmell would be able to negotiate a better rate. But not down to 0% which jaybuck is referring to when he says that the seller is losing all 19.5%. Or are you implying that collectors would not have a problem with throwing down half million dollars bids on eBay to a no-name seller which they have probably never hear of. If this was the case, why wouldn't Schmell have auction off his personal collection on his own website at an 0% cost. He can get more bids and eyes on it this way. Exactly, He can reach a bigger audience with deeper pockets by going through HA than he could with his own site. Yes, this was also my point EXACTLY as per my original post above! This is exactly why it is incorrect for jaybuck to say the consignor is losing 19.5% by using HA to sell off his copy of AF 15.
  5. Dam; Looks like you got yourself a nice copy there! Can't get any better than that in terms of both the PQ and registration. Congrats on the pick-up!!!

  7. Now, that's a nice looking copy without the white off-center strip running down the spine which seems to be very prevalent with this particular book. It would appear that CGC does not really deduct anything for this off-center PQ defect. What's the normal going rate for a 9.4 copy versus a 9.6 copy nowadays, as this seems to be one of the BA books that appears to be holding onto its value, and possibly even continuing a slow climb upwards? Any idea what the census numbers are for this book since there seems to be quitre a lot of HG and UHG copies with White pages out there.

  9. Are you saying that this copy was undergraded or that the other previous copies were overgraded?
  10. The color of the pages can impact the value of the book. I believe he is really asking why should the color of the pages affect the value at all, especially since nobody is ever going to be able to see the inside pages anyways when the book is enshrined in a tomb.
  11. GPA doesn't. GoCollect.com does. GoCollect's data is relatively recent though, while GPA goes back over a decade. How much does GPA charge for their monthly membership? Looks like GoCollect only has data going back to 2014. Hopefully, GPA will add in the data for Voldemort's sales results, otherwise they would be capturing an even more limited picture going forward as compared to before. They don't data mine for PGX either and that doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I'd be happy if they collected CGC data from ComicLink and some of the larger private dealers though .... -J. Totally agree with you that GPA should be collecting data from CL as that represents a significant part of the auction market here. Has CL provided a plausible explanation yet as to why they do not provide their data to GPA? Totally disagree with your viewpoint on mining data on Voldy books as they are certainly not in the same class as PGX. This is almost tantamount to putting CGC on the same level as PGX which is preposterous from my point of view. Have you forgotten who the key people are in the new grading company, where they came from, and their decades of experience in the industry? Certainly not newbies they are just hiring off the street with very limited years in the industry. Actually, I believe the ideal situation would be for GPA to mine data from both (if not all) of the major grading companies and then keep this information segregated within their database. I believe this would provide the best possible source of sales data to both potential buyers/sellers to make a more fully informed purchasing/selling decision.

  13. Thanks Jay - as you'll note, the 3.0 listing wasn't identified as a CGC book in its title (not even the grade was mentioned). Hence why it wasn't picked up. I'll get it into GPA shortly. Does anybody know if they also collect the slabbed sales for the Voldemort graded books?
  14. All I can say is that if you are shipping to Canada, USPS is the best way to go. If you use UPS to ship to Canada, you will most probably lose all of your Canadian customers.

  16. Contender in what sense? Looks like a relatively strong price with 7 more days to go.
  17. ...meanwhile the Voldemort 3.0 went $2,700+ less than the last comparably graded copy on ebay. -J. Jay; Sounds as though the 5.0 AMF 15 may have been an outlier. From the post below, if we are to believe it, it would appear that most of the keys were very soft, not just the Voldmort copy.
  18. $5.99 per month Too bad then......indeed, it looks like the free portion is really just a teaser and allows you to look at the sales data in detail for only 5 books per month. How does this compare to GPA in terms of both cost and information being provided?
  19. Looks like a very interesting and informative website, especially considering that unlike GPA, there is no monthly service charges. http://comics.gocollect.com/most-active Yes, it would definitely be helpful, especially for the older books, if you can somehow convince the auction houses to also provide you with actual sales results for inclusion into your database.
  20. One is such a lonely number.......we should find some way to get him back here again.
  21. Wow, it looks like Jordy has a perfect batting average in terms of scoring 2 9.8's on his 2 OO submissions. Hope he brought a Powerball ticket for himself last week since the luck seems to be going his way, with as you would term it, 2 accidents of preservation on his 2 submissions. Is there a reason for the passive/aggressive comment? 9.8s, prior to the advent of CGC, are accidents of preservation. That doesn't mean they're difficult to find, or that it takes "luck" to get them. I've gotten thousands of 9.8s, and so have others. I'm not sure you understand what "accident of preservation" means. No, didn't meant to be passive/aggressive with you at all, as I find your viewpoints to actually be very enlightening. Just feel that accidents of preservation is too simplified of a term and probably not the best or most accurate way of describing how to get UHG OO books. I feel it's more a case of having the following: 1) Luck of availability; 2) Skill in cherry picking; 3) Intent on preservation; and 4) Luck with grading If you miss out on any of these four factors, you most probably won't end up with a UHG book off the shelf by the time it's all said and done.
  22. Beautiful Non-jagged edge copies.. both in 9.8 Non-jagged edge vs Jagged edge - Wouldn't this be a more important criteria to consider rather than whether or not it's a Direct or Newstand I've never minded the jagged edge copies, personally. They add character to the book.
  23. Shows you how tight of a grader Payette must have been as he had graded the Allentown Cap 3 as only a raw VF+ copy. From the Pedigree Book article on the Allentown Collection, it looks like almost all of Payette's raw grades were lower than their CGC grades for the books that had been graded so far. Almost makes you wonder how high the CGC grades would be on the handful that Payette had graded as NM/M.
  24. Well, for me it would be the Adventure 40 over the 'Tec 31. The Adventure 40 is a much tougher book to find as compared to the 'Tec 31. In addition, not only is the Adventure unrestored, but the Detective has a bit too much work done to it to qualify as only Slight Restoration from my point of view. Finally, the Adventure 40 just presents do much better than the 'Tec 31. As for the second set, I would go for the Cap 2 over the More Fun 52. Tougher choice here and it would have been a no-brainer had it been a Cap 3 instead. When in doubt, always go for the grade (i.e. a 8.0 book is always better investment than a 4.0 book). Cap also has a lot more going forward for himself as an ongoing character, as compared to the Spectre. Also don't really care for the minor work done on the More Fun. So, no contest for me, it would be the Adventure 40 and the Cap 2.
