  1. Not sure, but looks like they probably did alright If you are referring to books from the 2nd tier publishers like Fox, Centaur, and the likes: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Damazing%2Bmystery%2Bfunnies%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1659131&id=1659131&itemType=0 Sold for a rather impressive $7,370 as compared to previous sales for this grade in the $5K+ price range for this seldom seen HTF book; https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dmystery%2Bmen%2B%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1659536&id=1659536&itemType=0 Sold for a seemingly strong price of $18,806 or just over 3X condition guide value for a mid-grade copy of a key Fox book; and https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dpolic%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1653241&id=1653241&itemType=0 Sold for a relative strong price of $16,055 or almost 4X condition guide value for this up and coming key book that seems to be gaining in popularity and demand after seemingly being left in the cooler for the longest while.
  2. Maybe we need to confer with an "expert" on this matter here..................does anybody here have the number for Danny Dupchak handy?
  3. Well, it's really all rather quite simple if you've ever heard of a guy named Overstreet. Although many collectors say that Overstreet is irrelevant in today's marketplace, the truth is that his price guide valuations still carries a lot of weight with the buyers and the auction houses. Now, if you look at the current edition of the price guide and the far right column where most hopeful reader's eyes tend to go to, the top of guide price for a MM 9 is $116K while MM 8 with the first issue of the Torch/Subby battle sits at $40K and the 2 non-battle issues before that down into the $20K's. On the other end, you've got MM 10 with conclusion of the epic Torch/Subby 3-issue battle sitting at $35K and the 2 issues right after that at under $10K. Now, with those same kinds of relative valuations listed in the price guide since seemingly forever albeit at lower price points decades ago, it's pretty tough to go against entrenched history and not end up having to pay substantially more if you want a copy of MM 9 in your collection.
  4. No doubt Seven Seas 1 and Seven Seas 2 must be your two best covers in the run then:
  5. Approx $82K To be exact, sold for $81K on February 9th: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/seven-seas-comics-4-davis-crippen-d-copy-pedigree-universal-phoenix-feature-1947-cgc-nm-92-off-white-to-white-pages/a/40216-81340.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  6. Well, if he had remember to put in his signature tagline "Still much better condition than before", it might have hit his "Sale Pending" price point of $42.5K, if not possibly even more than that.
  7. Well, looks like all of our negative talk about the Cap 1 sale on CL must have really raised the profile on the Cap 1 in the CC Auction: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/988064 Looks like it shot up like a rocket well into the top position with a current hammer bid of $162K or just over $186K with the 15% BP juice in there. So, I imagine it really shouldn't have too much of a problem getting past the $201K price point, especially considering there's still another 10 days to go.
  8. Decided to take a closer look at the batman 49 sales because it's such a stunning red cover and all I can say is what a roller coaster ride. Looks like a couple of juiced up buyers must have really overdosed on the Heritage Promise juice they were serving as the CGC 9.6 graded Promise copy sold for a rather staggering $132K back in November of 2021 and then on the very next day in the same Heritage Auction, some drunken hungover stupor who had lost out ends up bidding $38.4K for a CGC 8.5 graded copy of Batman 49. Needless to say, with some well over 200+ Universal copies of this book graded including more than 20+ copies in CGC 8.5 or better and 5 in CGC 9.6 alone, sanity would return to the marketplace. Hence, to no real surprise, we then end up seeing Heritage selling another CGC 8.5 graded copy for only $11.4 in September of 2022 followed by another CGC 8.5 sale even lower at only $10.2K in November of 2022.
  9. Finished up at $8,600 as a CGC 7.5 graded Crowley copy after being brought as a CGC 5.5 graded Crowley copy for $7,800: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dpower%2Bcomics%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1663220&id=1663220&itemType=0#detail Highly doubt there's any money made here after factoring in all of the additional ancillary costs to get the bump up in the grade and definitely nowhere close to the $12K "Sale Pending" price tag that was shown on his WW website.
  10. Well, I guess although you definitely can't win them all, it's certainly helps if you can win the big one like that 'Tec 39 and this one here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-comics-2-larson-pedigree-fox-1940-cgc-apparent-vf-80-slight-c-1-white-pages/a/7283-93072.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Brought as a Restored 8.0 Larson copy of Science 2 for $21,600 and resold as an Universal 7.5 Larson copy of Science 2 for $32K: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dscience%2Bcomics%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1663221&id=1663221&itemType=0#detail Then again, probably viewed as not meeting expectations since it was shown as "Sale Pending" on his WW site at $42.5K.
  11. Do you mean what a steal of a deal for the buyer or do you mean they were taken out to the woodshed behind the cabin and got a good whupping, although the blood red Batman 49 sure looks much more like the former even though I would have to say it's been all over the ballpark in terms of pricing?
  12. How does this compare to the 8.5 that sold for $552K a few months ago? Yes, definitely nothing like the pandemic heydays of 2021 and 2022 when CC was able to fetch $560K for a QES stickered copy back in back in August of 2021 before it started to dipped back down to $520K in March of 2022 and then a bit further down at $448.5K in June of 2022. Well, it certainly doesn't help when the supply is so large with multiple copies available in various gades in every single auction. Well, certainly NOT for the harder to find or classic cover GA books though, unless you are referring to the pizz-poor Cap 1 sale on CL.
  13. $1.8K or 16% short = "close enough"! Well, although there appears to be some question about the current trajectory with respect to Famous Funnies 215, the trajectory for Famous Funnies 211 in CGC 9.4 at least still appears to be on the upswing, based upon this evening's earlier CL result here: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dfamous%2Bfunnies%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1646890&id=1646890&itemType=0#detail That's of course assuming if you exclude the CGC 9.0 Signature copy which sold for a rather astounding $19,800 back in January of 2022 and which appears to be a definite outlier beause of the Frazetta signature. Excluding that copy there, it looks like we have comparables in terms of a equivalent CGC 9.4 graded copy selling for $7.2K at HA in November of 2020 and then another 9.4 copy selling for $7,555 at CC in June of 2021. Seemingly a relatively strong price at $9,169 especially considering that unlike the later issues which have only a handful of copies in CGC 9.0 and above, this Famous Funnies 211 like its other two earlier issues all have over 20+ copies graded in CGC 9.0 and above, with 5 of them in CGC 9.4 and another 2 in CGC 9.6. So, not too bad of a finish for this copy here at >$9K.
  14. Well, looks like this loss in grade turned into a big win for Ritter as the fat lady got up off her big arse and bellowed out $7,800 loud and clear.
  15. Well, not only did it sell for more than Heritage's initial price point of $4,320 when it was a CGC 4.5 graded copy, but it also beat WW's "Sale Pending" price point of $5,350 posted last week: https://www.wwcomics.com/comicdetail.asp?Product_ID=Detective_39_61719It It must have been Ritter's grading notes which helped to push it way way over the top: Grading Notes: Originally graded 4.5, but had ugly spine roll & tape over issue #, but when pressed the front of both staples tore through. Still much better condition than before.Price: $5,350.00 Sale Pending
  16. For sure, because if it was a highest graded copy of a BA or CA book, I would be running to CL as fast as my feet could take me.
  17. Most definitely will be as it's currently sitting in the #2 position at a hammer of $94K (i.e. $108,100 with the 15% BP) behind a CGC 2.5 graded copy of Batman 1, with still another 2 weeks to go. My guess is that it will definitely beat CL's $201K price point, but not sure if it'll get past the $300K theshold level on this go round here.
  18. Definitely on the low side at only $201K since CC had a CGC 7.0 graded copy that was auctioned off at $339,760.60 (i.e. based upon a hammer bid of $295,444) back in March of 2022. Even higher than the Heritage $312K result, but then I imagine the QES sticker on the CC copy must have made all the difference in the world. Not sure who the consignor is, but if it was me, all I will say is that CL would not be my first auction venue of choice if it's for a high dollar value GA book like Cap 1.
  19. They used to put coccaine in the paper. Only reasonable explanation And even more so if they were read while drinking a bottle of Coke.
  20. Received a PM from a fellow boardie here the other night and it looks like the fire is not only burning hot on the later Fox books which we have seen recently, but also still burning brightly on the early Fox books: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/mystery-men-comics-7-fox-1940-cgc-apparent-gd-25-slight-c-1-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/122309-17635.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ArchiveSearchResults-012417&lotPosition=0|6 Definitely not the best looking copy of a CGC 2.5 graded book from a strict appearance POV and even a restored copy at that, and yet still able to garnered a price of $3,360 or over 6.5X its unrestored condition guide valuation. Then again, I guess it really shouldn't be that surprising since even slightly lower graded raw Good copies and even a Restored Incomplete Good copy have been selling in this same $3K+ price range for the past few years. Looks like collectors are more than willing to buck up and pay when some of these rare HTF Fox books like this Mystery Men 7 makes an appearance in the marketplace. Especially with a book like MM 7 where there are not only a meagre 11 Universal copies, but also extremely tough to find in grade with the highest graded copy being the Jon Berk Church copy at a grade of only CGC 8.0 and then a humongous drop down to only CGC 4.0 and below for the other 10 Universal graded copies of this book.
  21. Yes, but that doesn't fit Lou Fine's narrative. Yes, but what's really surprising is the fact that YOU didn't pick up or remembered this Non-Sale here since your are a lot younger than me: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/saddle-justice-6-the-promise-collection-pedigree-ec-1949-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7246-96161.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 SOLD ON SEP 11, 2021 FOR: NOT SOLD Not sure when Heritage switched it from a sale for $21K to a nosale, but I am quite sure it would have been well before its subsequent sale for only $6.6K back in November of 2021.
  22. Nah, didn't missed it at all and the first thing that came to my mind was Schmell as a potential buyer since I remember he had a perfect batting average with my sampling of about a dozen CVA and QES books books that he had resubmitted for one of his Doug's Dell & Gold Key Showcase Auctions at Heritage. Then again, even Dougie like everybody else except for Ritter, might not be brave enough to put that batting average up against a graded Promise book. Sure, no problem with resubbing a CVA or QES encased regular book as there's probably still a lot of "meat left on the bone", but a Promise encased book......................nah, don't think so as it's most likely already been picked clean. BTW: Does anybody else here find it rather ironic that whenever it comes to auctioning his own personal collection of books off, whether it be his uber HG Marvel SA collection and now his Doug's Dell & Gold Key books, his own PedigreeComics auction website is not good enough to do it and he always has to go runnning to Heritage? Makes you wonder why anybody in their right mind would ever consign books to his auction website when even he himself clearly has absolutely no confidence in it when it comes to the selling of his own books.
  23. Yeah, but that's what drives collectordom right now and new comic sales Are you quite sure about this, because I certainly don't see any capes at all in these 2 books here from this past HA Sunday/Monday auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/science-fiction/dejah-thoris-v2-1-che-virgin-edition-dynamite-entertainment-2018-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122309-17259.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Inventory-BuyNowFromOwner-ThisAuction-120115 https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/miscellaneous/savage-tales-1-virgin-edition-dynamite-entertainment-2007-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122309-17692.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115
  24. Well, I highly doubt Heritage would ever submit anything to CVA because they are either directly or indirectly connected to CL, similar to how QES is either directly or indirectly connected to CC. In either case, totally not necessary for Heritage because they've got a direct hot line right to the graders inside the grading room at CGC, as clearly evident by some of the grades we've seen on the Promise Collection books.
  25. Well, it would have been much more of a sure fire slam dunk done deal if you had kept the FF 213 or FF 214 and you wouldn't even had needed the sig or that big big number on the top left hand corner of the slab, as anywhere in the 8's would have been more than good enough to do the job.
