  1. I guess time will only tell, but I strongly doubt that we'll ever hear or see another post from @Tim Frommelt on these boards here again.
  2. Since you are now retired or pretty much near there, is this from the prime time of your life or was this already past your prime:
  3. I don't believe there was any stipuation that there was only 1 higher graded copy, as the only stipulaton was White Pages:
  4. Well, since you included my post as the header for your post here, does this mean we have to guess only the other 6 books now?
  5. Are you guys really being serious here because I've got an Avengers 1 that looks like this and I thought it was nothing more than a POS rag? Especially since I've got an X-Men 1 in better shape than this and a Daredevil 1 in much much better shape than this and all brought from the second hand used bookstore back in the day for the exact same price point since condition was definitely not a factor back then. Sadly, don't think there were any other SA Marvel #1's in there since some kid with a faster bike must have beaten me to the store and snapped them all up, as there were only the second and third appearances for some of the titles left by the time I got to the store. Sounds as though I really need to hunt them down as I haven't seen them in decades now after simply tossing them into a poly bag back in the day on the assumption they were pretty much worthless crapola, considering the terrible well read condition they were all in.
  6. Not quite. Not quite, hey? Hmmmmmmmm......................then it must be a CGC 9.0 graded copy of AF 15 with White Pages!!!
  7. So, are you really trying to tell us that an equivalent CGC 9.2 graded copy of AF 15 from the Truckee collection will be in the June HA Auction?
  8. Not 100% sure about this, but according to many boardies much wiser than me, aren't these more of the non-technical factors that CGC doesn't take into full account as part of their grading process, and that's where the CVA and QES stickers come into play? Of course, there's an exception to every rule and in this particular case here, it would be the Promise Collection books where their freshness and colors are just so blindingly and drippingly deep and bright that the CGC graders simply can't see the obvious visual technical defects on SOME of the books such as rat chews, edge tears, spine ticks, indented staples, etc.
  9. Any idea how close it was to the $350K ask price because $200K+ is a long ways away from that, but then $192K is even further away.
  10. No problem and what's a hundred thou give or take when you are talking about millions for what were viewed as "throwaway" kid's comic books way back in the day.
  11. No, the SF Cap 1 finished up at $3,120,000: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/captain-america-comics-1-san-francisco-pedigree-timely-1941-cgc-nm-94-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7270-91053.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-ThisAuction-120115 Not even good enough for the bronze medal as I believe the CGC 9.0 graded copy of Action sold on eBay for $3.2M back in 2014 and the so-called Rocket copy of Action Comics 1 sold for $3.18M earlier this year.
  12. Totally agree with you as I believe in the theiry that a rising tide tends to lift all boats. Besides this same type of increase that we have seen with AF 15, we are also experiencing not only the same phenomeon with lower graded copies of TMNT 1 below CGC 9.8, but also a rising tide for some of the later Turtles issues after TMNT 1.
  13. No secret at all about Cap 1, but the real secret is whether @Mmehdy's own personal copy of Cap 1 is also going to finish up into the 9's and give some of these copies a run for their money. Especially since I feel that Mitch and probably some of the other first generation collectors from the 60's and earlier just might already have some nice copies squirreled away in their personal collections that have yet to see the light of day, but I guess only time will tell.
  14. That was also the first thing that crossed my mind the eve before the auction when I noticed the Cap 1 sitting just one bid increment away from where the single highest graded copy of Batman 1 finished up at last year.
  15. I believe that is correct, as does Marvel. Of course, DC comics top offerings in grade would shatter these numbers. Nobody sells those, though. Hard to keep track of all these $3M+ sales, but which book is in the #2 spot as I thought it might have been the CGC 8.5 graded copy of Action 1 that was sold through CC for something like $3.25M back in April of 2021?
  16. FTFY: Although it looks like you are good with numbers in terms of calculating your percentages, you are not so good with determining the numbers of years.
  17. I thought it was supposed to be the "Summer of 72" that was the turning point in every boy's life as he comes of age and grows into a young man.
  18. I know of or am aware of many people who goes out and watched these Marvel/DC super hero movies and/or TV shows, but not aware of a single one of them being turned on to the point that they would actually head out to a comic shop to pick up the lastest comic book featuring these characters, let alone spend thousands of dollars on a first appearance back issue on any of these comic book characters. My thinking is that these books are probably being brought up by speculators/flippers who are simply buying these books based upon the "greater fool theory" in their belief that prices will continue to go up because they will be able to sell them to a greater fool, even if they are overvlaued. All I can say is hope you are not the one left without a chair to sit on when the music stops playing because the only people able to consistently make money on these kinds of books here are the grading companies and the auction houses.
  19. I think it's a pretty well know fact, at least with most boardies here, that Cap 3 is easily the second most valuable Cap book out there in the Timely stable and has been that way for several years now. Maybe somebody should get around to telling old slow Bob that he really needs to update his guide valuations for this fact, as he's totally out of touch on this.
  20. It's probably just our resident prognosticator, Mitch M, shilling the book all the way up to finally prove his long standing point about Cap 1.
  21. Well, I certainly hope so as I really need to get off my duff and send a couple of mine's in for grading and auction somewhere before they go below the price points which I got my copies for.
  22. Yeah. An X-Men 1 9.2 just sold yesterday for 276,000. About 300,000 after taxes. Shows how much more respect FF #1 garners. But FF 1 only has 8 - 9.2 or higher and XM 1 has 40. Not sure why you are comparing it to a piddly X-Men 1 when it's all said and done, this 9.2 copy of FF 1 might even beat what an equivalent graded 9.2 copy of AF 15 might sell for. If so, this would indeed confirm what Stan would later put on the top of every FF book, namely "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine".
  23. Well, I imagine this is nothing more than your usual post-movie spanking and beat down that relatively common movie hype books take after the movie has been released, even though it's considered to be a success both from a critic and financial point of view: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/special-marvel-edition-15-master-of-kung-fu-marvel-1973-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122214-11694.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Looks like the above CGC 9.8 graded copy sold for $6,900 in Heritage's Monday auction while the CGC 9.6 graded copy below sold for $2,400: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/special-marvel-edition-15-master-of-kung-fu-marvel-1973-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/122214-11695.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Never could figure out why speculators were paying 5 figures for this book prior to the release of the movie, especially the guy who spent $18K for his copy as the movie was being released as I imagine they must have really brought into all of the hype and glam at the time.
  24. Larson Detective 36 has no graders notes available. Well, that's definitely interesting and NOT so insightful since the cover scans certainly makes it appear to be much nicer than CGC's 6.5 grade.
  25. Speaking about books that looks nicer than their assigned grade, the front and back cover scans for this Larson copy would make it seem to appear a lot nicer that its assigned CGC 6.5 grade. Especially since I took a quick look at the original Larson List and it has this 'Tec 36 listed as a NM copy, although it does note a dark stain at the bottom of the spine throughout the interior of the book. I imagine this must have been what knocked it down to the 6.5 grade range, and just wondering if this would also synch up with the CGC Graders' Notes for this Larson 'Tec 36.
