[quote name=rockman2008A deal is a deal [/quote]This goes back to why he sold to bat-man over mt1000. The former paid all in one shot compared to Matt who was planning on dividing time payments into who knows how long (? it's still unclear the time line agreed between mt1000 and yannis).
According to Dan, they were actually going to drive over there, pick the book up in person and finalize the deal on Saturday.
DRX
Which would you prefer? Payment by electronic means that's guaranteed all at once.
Or would you rather wait for some stranger who may or may not show up with his friend at your door step after a four-hour drive? And if they do show up, wouldn't you be concerned about the possibility of being beaten up and robbed? The logistics for setting this up is a pain compared to the ease of a quick electronic payment. No?

Wow, i'm just hearing of this. I think John needs to clarify exactly what happened and why. I can only imagine that it was a money issue (greed).Right, brought myself up to date and all I can say is...The ???
From the seller's post, I can't be certain whether he was implying that the death effected this deal or just his ability to post. Hopefully he meant the latter, as for all the sympathy I have for anybody who has lost somebody close...and this applies to Yannis...there is no good reason why it should impact on him selling the book to Bat-Man rather than Matt.
I could see the book not being sold at all, due to lack of time to consumate the deal, but to force a sale to a boarder other than the one who had already paid a $500 deposit?
Nah. Anyone who pays a $500 deposit to a total stranger is good for the rest of the money. This is simply a case of the good ole boy club. Matt's not a member, so got shafted royally. In accepting the payment, the deal was sealed and the seller should be utterly ashamed of himself for pulling the book so that his little chum could have it instead.
I'm sure that Yannis won't have any trouble continuing to sell around here...cool books are always worth more than ethics and integrity to many buyers ...but to anyone with a sense of fair play, please stear well clear.
No. It's not a greed issue. Bat-man showed me a snapshot of the paypal transaction. He really did pay $1,500 plus fees...less than what mt1000 said he would have paid -- $1,600.

A death in the family can certainly hurt you ability to be on the boards check PMs etc, I lost my Mom Jan 1 so I know what the seller may be dealing with .That being said..
I still would not renegg and sell the book to someone else. for more money if that is in fact what happened.A deal is a deal.We all have tragedys that make us unable to get the computer as much as we would like but the sellers death in the family or whatever he has going on should not stop him from completing the sale
I am not insensitive or trying to downplay the sellers situation but I can understand the buyers point of view..
Sorry for the sellers loss..
A deal is a deal
And i agree with you 100% and i truly am sorry for his lost , but i got screwed for no reason. I myself am going through a loss too my best friend died unexpectedly a week and a half ago ,so Yes it sux
I probably should know better but I want to point out a couple of things. First of all, yannis sold the Tec 37 to bat-man for $100 less than the price he would've sold to mt1000. Obviously, greed was not the motivating factor for breaking the deal. Second, when you have a dying relative, being "unable to get to a computer" should be the least of your worries. Unless you're well off financially, you don't have to worry about medical expenses, funeral costs, and all that entails. I know yannis is not in the "super rich" category.
This goes back to why he sold to bat-man over mt1000. The former paid all in one shot compared to Matt who was planning on dividing time payments into who knows how long (? it's still unclear the time line agreed between mt1000 and yannis). The motivating factor had to be getting the money ASAP from a known buyer the seller has dealt with before, compared to risking credit on a newbie that might flake. The death in the family just reinforces the urgency. Does that make sense?
I think the worst fault on the part of the seller was his promise to sell the Tec 37 to two buyers at the same time. That's basically unethical. But given that he needed the money, he may have been attempting to hedge his risk and not have the sale fall through. I'd just as well ascribe it all to poor communication skills. I don't think the intent here was to rip anyone off, since mt1000 did get his deposit back.

curious. What was the grade of the book and how much?
I was told it was a 2.5 ungraded but unrestored and they wanted $1600
They
Terrence and Phillip.
Charles and Eddie.

I can't believe one of our awesome board detectives has not figured out who the seller is yet.
If it was a Danny Dupcak thread we would already have a Google image of the guys house so we would know where to throw the toilet paper.
I know the participants. I'm just waiting for a fair explanation before weighing in.

Dan has indicated they are looking to wait 24 hours to see if the seller responds, that is reasonable as no one other than Roy is at the comp 24/7.
If nothing happens by that point, THEN demand to know who it is.
Only because Roy is addicted to internet porn...but such is life.

You know which boardie I'd pay to see in mortal combat? Look at MedicAR. He's built like the second coming of Tor Johnson!

Great, you guys are going to get me moved to the top of the schitt list.
No worries, Mike. Frankenstein might be coming after you but you'll be fine as long as you're adequately prepared. Just say the word and I'll lend you my bullwhip or slightly used pair of nunchucks.

I don't think he has any moves left to maintain much credibility.

They will be back on Friday when Frankie is back and will be trying to verbally kicking your with them
I don't predict a silent return. I think he's grinding axes as we post
I don't think there's going to be any happy ending for this. I can see a Frankenstein monster in the making hunting down each boardie in the coming weeks. If we don't see any more posts from Dice, you'll know it has begun.
As for me, I'm loading up on weapons and moving out to the desert.

The most troubling part of this whole sorted affair was the outright denials followed by the vicious name calling and brow beating he gave to anyone who questioned him.
What got me was he didn't have time to look at the accusation/scans objectively because he was at work (or so he says)...which I might understand 'cause everyone's been slow at one time or another, to respond to the boards when at work.
And yet during the same work time, he can wade through this messy thread, pick out his adversaries, and send death threats. Now that's multi-tasking.

While the ethics behind this move are questionable, the motivation is simple to understand: people want money, and some want it badly enough to lie, cheat and steal. Easy to understand.
What I don't get is bringing this deal here. If I was a swindler and had a scam based on people not noticing the fine details of a comic, can you think of a worse site to try and fool people?
(I'm not patting myself on the back, I cannot grade to save my life, but I am amazed on a fairly regular basis by the stuff that gets spotted here).
My thoughts exactly, some guys on here would put the top detectives at New scotland yard and the FBI to shame.
Frankenstein thinks different. His brain is Abby Normal.

The Question and his pimp ride vs TOS 39?
I totally missed that one. Can you give the Reader's Digest version?
Wow. This thread gets more complicated and layered by the minute. It's like one big dysfunctional family at Thanksgiving letting all pet peeves, skeletons, past transgressions, everything all hang out. Wheee-o.
Just be thankful you weren't here when the ronm3 situation came to light That was not fun
You might as well give us the Reader's Digest version to include in this thread.

.... someones sig says it the best, can't remember who but it goes a little something like this:
"if it is not being disclosed, your being hosed"
Yeah, he also said, "If the photo-shopped images don't fit, you must acquit!"
-
this thread had accomplished what it set out to do, alert the cgc boards to how this particular seller approaches selling books... but if this particular seller doesn't comply to someone elses standards, then I am not sure I would say "dishonest', but more along the lines of "not disclosing to one's fellow boardies"
we would hope that we would be motivated to help each other out, but folks, come on, that just ain't the way the wheel turns
Stop with the logic, reason and open minded approach to this situation.
You're going to ruin a perfectly good thread.
Are you covering for Roy this evening Rick?
Thanks Rick...You are the man ! (thumbs u

You should sell me your totally lame #39.
It is totally lame you're right; I just assumed that in this market nobody would want it.
I will trade you for an Amazing Spiderman #500 signature series that's still sealed in the chromium baggy, if you happen to have one.
Tell him there's no back cover to your #39 and see if nearmint still wants it.

Love the Timely Schomburg covers. You know the superheroes won't get hurt and yet half the combatants on the cover will likely be killed by friendly fire.

Good question. I guess Bat-man will have to answer that himself.
