  1. I'm still digging through old issues of TBG from 1975. I hope to find the original sales list. I'll tell you what - I've looked through about 20 issues so far and the availability of old sweet Golden Age is astounding! I've seen maybe a dozen each of Superman #1, Batman #1 and Captain America #1. Also about 6 each of Action #1 and Detective #27. Near mint runs of Amazing Mystery Funnies. 2 Red Raven #1. How about Captain America #1-25 run, or another run of Cap 4-10 (VF/NM) - $850. Action #1-10 run from Bruce Hamilton. Green Lantern #12-19 (NM/MT) - $25 each. Pep #17 - $150. Millie the Model #1 (mint) $5. Hot Stuff #1 (NM) - $3 That's just the tip of the iceburg. Fortunately, I bought more GA comics in 1975 than any other year spending practically every penny I could scrape up.
  2. Thanks, everyone! I really like the colors on that cover! Shield: Thats actually Lightning Vol. 2 #2 (#8) . It was published by ACE and ran for 13 issues? The first 3 or 4 issues were called Sure-Fire Comics before the name changed to Lightning. The lead character was called "Flash" Lightning but he also had a name change to "Lash" Lightning (maybe at DC comics suggestion?). ACE publications most famous comic was probably Super-Mystery starring Magno and Davey, his boy sidekick. Timely: I have all the comics on the list you looked up for me but I thought maybe the Hyper and Punch might be Larson copies because they are so nice. I didn't know they weren't found in Larsons collection. For some reason I never thought about them coming from a different "nice" collection. After pedigreeman suggested there were a few finds of high quality books throughout the 60's - 70's it makes me wonder just where the Hyper and Punch were found. I ask because I got about 5 of the books on the above list at one time in a trade with a local collector. Guess I should have asked him where he got them...
  3. Greetings, Mr. Timely! Thanks so much for the help! I'll compare those grades with what I have and see what I come up with. In the meantime, here's one I happened to have scanned. Looks NM/M to me (but who knows til it's officially graded, right)? Just checked the census - only 2 copies graded with the highest a 7.5 restored.
  4. Back when Chuck started his articles in CBG about finding the Church collection, I wrote in basically saying what a wonderful, unique find it was. Maggie responded about another impressive collection that was found in Detroit by Dupchek if I'm remembering correctly. Anyone know about a "Detroit" collection? Anyway, I'll look for photos and share anything interesting I find. Probably start a new thread about it sometime after this weekend.
  5. Hi, Alan! I was never a dealer but I did scour The Buyers Guide and Rockets Blast looking for books to buy back then. You are right, there probably were high grade finds and I've just forgotten about them. I'd be curious to know how significant some of those finds were compared to the known pedigrees. I guess only the dealers/collectors who found them would know. Maybe some of the old time dealers (Rogofsky, Mitchell, etc) need to be coaxed into telling their stories. It would be interesting to me. My best finds only went back as far as EC comics (I'm not complaining). I actually saved all the old Buyers Guides up til about issue #800. They've been close to being dumped more than once but now they might prove useful. I'm getting curious to browse the early issues and see what I can turn up. I actually like the distinguishing marks (date stamps, names, etc) on Golden Age because they do identify collections. They are more like "beauty marks" in some cases.
  6. OK - these are the ones I'm curious about: Exciting #1 Hyper Mystery #1 Mystery Men #1 Prize #1 Punch #1 Startling #1 Speed #1 Science #4 Hit #10 Lightning #8 A couple of these I've posted on the boards (Hyper Mystery #1, Startling #1, Speed #1). A couple others I know are Larsons because they say "Larson" or "Lamont" on them. The mystery here (to me) is, if some are NOT Larsons then there must have been a wonderful pedigree collection discovered (prior to 1976) that was never noted as such and the books have been shuffled off in many collections. I guess that wouldn't be surprising. All these books have been in my collection since 1974 or so. Any help appreciated! Thanks!
  7. Where can one find this "original Larson list"??? I'm very curious about some of my books that I think might be Larsons but I'm not sure. The Larson list is too long to print, but if you have specific books I'd be happy to look them up for you. Timely Hmmm...thanks! Should I send you a PM or list them here or...? There's probably less than dozen I'm curious about. Should I post a scan or . . .? Let's say Punch #1 for example.

  9. PUNYHUMAN: Thanks for posting this incredible cover! Everyone must have missed it because I don't think it got the love it deserves.
  10. Nice books! That's actually Rockman by Wolverton in USA #1. I haven't looked at my copy in so long I forgot what Rockman looks like. Wolverton is one of my faves. If your copy wasn't slabbed, you could look too! (just teasing with you)
  11. Thank you! These old Nedors are surprisingly affordable compared to other companies Golden Age comics. They're fun. Here's an early Thrilling:
  12. I assume you must mean the early Excitings since they featured the Black Terror. The early Startlings featured the Fighting Yank. I thought he mean't the EARLY Startlings I posted which feature Captain Future.
  13. You CAN complain to ebay BUT you might want to wait until you get the book in your hands. If I read the auction correctly - you won TWO copies.
  14. Nice run of Kid Comics you got there! Guess I better get busy scanning so I can share when you get to USA and Marvel Mystery. I have MMs that will make even you weep! Actually I don't but it was fun to type. Someone will have to throw cold water on me when you post your MM #1.
  15. Do you have any of the Sam Sawyer view master reels? They are clay or puppet looking dioramas. You might like them. Speaking of 50's exotica and record albums, you have stuff by Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and Les Baxter? This is music I wouldn't be caught dead listening to as a teenager but now . . .it's kinda cool.
  16. I just checked the date on Gimmeabreak comix - Feb 1971.
  17. I like that Detective #69! I don't have any of the archives. Do they reprint just the Batman stories or do they also include the backup features? What about the old ads?
  18. "Do you know if that's a first print? One way to find out is to check on page 2 to see if it makes any mention of Rhuta Comix #0 as being Election Day Funnies, and Rhuta Comix #1 as being Mother Country Comix (also 0.05 cents). " Hi, Comicwiz! Yes, my copy says all the above on the inside front cover. Does that make it a first print?
  19. There are roughly 2,000 Bazooka comics to be had vfrom 1954-1980. Here's one of my favorites from the 1955 series - #31.
  20. Ghoul: that sounds like a massive undertaking....didn't they make thousands of those over the years? In order to have a 'complete set,' I assume you have to have one of each unique 'comic' dating back to the '50s or whenever? Can you scan a sampling of 'em and post 'em here, just for kicks? I'd love to see the first one... They always seem to sell when listed on eBay...what are the most valuable ones worth? It is a massive undertaking as you are right - there are thousands! What got me started collecting them in the first place was the utter lack of information available. I decided to do something about that and have been collecting them for the past 4 years. They started in 1954 and what I consider a "complete set" is one each of the basic series. I'm not counting color variations or oddball sizes at this time. The older ones usually do sell on ebay because I don't pass them up. I know a couple other people collecting too and between us, we usually get them. The oldest are only worth a couple bucks a piece at this time. Nice affordable hobby. A new scanner just walked in the door so after I hook it up - I may be able to show some. Thanks for asking!
  21. It's not a tabloid. It's a normal size comic with glossy covers and newsprint interiors - 48 pages I think. I'll check inside to see if it's a first print and get back to you later on. Thanks!
  22. I collect Bazooka Joe gum comics and was thrilled yesterday to find one I needed! That leaves 7 more to go. Speaking of underground comics, do you have Gimmeabreak Comix? (see attachment)
