Show me your Timely's and I'll show you mine. Have a Cigar...
ghoulaid replied to Timely's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
All Winners #3 is my favorite cover ever since I saw it in "All in Color for a Dime" way back when. I've got All Winners #s 3-5 but they are simply not as nice as your #3. Gorgeous book! I checked my Mystic #3 for the color touch again and it doesn't have any. The brown area you noticed is a small "bend" and the red variation looks to be a very faint dust shadow. Gee, sounds worse all the time. -

Thanks! Interestingly, these scans look MUCH better on the computer I use at work than what I see here at home. Maybe a moniter issue? Anyway, I checked the Mystic #3 carefully but see no color touches. Where do you see them or what looks like color touches to you? Just curious. There is a black grease pencil mark that was erased. The Mystic #7 is clean, no touches that I can see. I don't have a black light to test them with though. I've had both these since the early 70's. -

I have most of the Mystics but Mr. Timelys are slightly better than mine so no need to repeat them. I could post #1 but it's only VGish. However, here's another nice one: -

Nice All-Winners #2! How can you tell it's a Pennsylvania copy (the sideways "B")? Mind if I squeeze in a couple more Mystics to finish those off? I wanted to do this before you started on those Marvel Mysterys. Obviously, it's the high grades that get respect, so, here's one someone asked about: -

Whoops! Here's another one not shown til now. It's a "beater" but I'm pleased to have it. One of the scarcest books I own: -

Show me your Nedors, and I'll show you mine...
ghoulaid replied to nearmint's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
You're right, Startling #9 does look like Schomburg. It's not signed so I didn't want to assume it was. Here's one of the better books (no pun intended) in my collection which tops off the early Startling's: Check out the stockings - risque back in the day. -
That ALL-NEW #8 has a nice cover! Guest starring Shock Gibson (who could resist?)! Also love those early PEP covers! C'mon guys - don't get me started BUYING again.

Hmmm...why does the image go over to the right hand side? Nasty initials on the cover - Larson copy? -

While not as exciting as the Schomburg covers, the earlier Nedors have a charm all their own. Thought I would bump this thread up with a couple I found: -
I like your taste in books, Punyhuman! (That Wonderworld looks familiar, I think I have that issue).
-
I really like those Blue Bolt's - killer book!

After giving it some careful thought . . .your Mystic #2 looks better than my copy! Mystic is my favorite Timely title. Got more? -
I still collect old comics from bubble gum like Bazooka Joe (almost complete), Fleer Funnies, Dubble Bubble, Tommy Swell, Archie, etc. Before that I collected pin back buttons that came from gum machines (Famous Monsters, Beatles, Batman, Green Hornet, etc). Used to collect non-sports cards and still have a large collection of older baseball, football cards (yawn).

Love that Daring Mystery #1! I need that one myself. -
Terrific books Punyhuman! Maybe it's just me but I think it would be helpful for people on dial-up connections if you could try reducing the size of your images. At about 3 MB each, they still haven't loaded after 15 minutes. On the previous page I reduced your Black Terror #8 and posted it for you (maybe you didn't see that). I'd like to see more of what you have but giant scans tend to kill threads (for me anyway). I don't know what kind of software you are using to scan and save but maybe try scanning at 150 dpi and save it at 50% or something. Just play around with it to find different results. Thanks!

Ridiculously Rare DC Giveaways And Premiums
ghoulaid replied to Ian_Levine's topic in Comics General
Yes it worries me sick, and I'm convinced this is exactly what happened here. Hence I want to find out who "Ziro" is. "Know thine enemy"................ Ziro isn't out to get you. If you check his bid history it appears he is a Superman collector and this is a case of you and he wanting the same item. Nothing more sinister than that. -
Yeah, the costume is lame but it's a terrific book for an obscure company! The cover on your #2 looks much more inviting to me. I don't remember reading it but I may have to open it up (not slabbed) since I just noticed "DISCO - The Boy Detective", 35 years before his time.
